SPEAKERS & GENERAL SESSIONS Tuesday, February 18, 2014 (Cont’d)

Swan 5 (7)

LARRY MAXWELL, AIA, “THE BENEFITS AND IMPACTS OF DAYLIGHTING AND FENESTRATION ON BUILDING ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND THE IMPACTS OF LEED AND BUILDING ENERGY CODES” 1:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Numerous misconceptions exist concerning what daylighting is and how it impacts either scenario. The requirements of the Building Codes, and specifically the energy codes, and the requirements and goals of USGBC’s LEED and other similar programs can add further misconceptions and misunderstandings. This program will present and promote the benefits of daylighting, and dispel myths concerning the impacts of the Building Codes and building certifications programs such as LEED.

AMC PRESENTATION: “THERMAL TRENDS” - 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Presented by: Patrick Muessig (Azon), Mockingbird 1 (5) During this presentation, Mr. Muessig will take a look at the latest thermal trends and examine their impact on the performance of commercial fenestration.

FMC PRESENTATION: “CASE STUDY OF FIBERGLASS LIFE CYCLE DURABILITY” - 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Presented by: Scott Zimmerman (Atlas Material Testing Technology), Osprey 1 (1) This presentation will address a philosophy of looking at long term durability as opposed to infant mortality by integrating the 2 main stresses known in the weathering world. They are:

1. Weathering stress extremes as they occur globally2. Compressed cycling of those stresses

SAM SILVERSTEIN: “No More Excuses® - Non-Negotiable”

Presentation Overview A Non-Negotiable. It’s a decision—from which there is no retreat. It’s a positive standard you create that respects the rights of oth-ers—and is absolute. It reflects who you really are—and where you really want to go. In it lies your true source of personal power and control. It is the influential solution and purposeful focus to direct your life and organization to success.

For years organizations have focused on traditional leadership skills, customer service training and team building. Non-Negotiables—based on a personal belief system and mission—free you—and everyone else you work with—on a personal level with power that defines you and drives you.

Understanding what you believe as an organization, your mission as an organization and what is Non-Negotiable in your organiza-tion will create a more accountable culture in your organization.

In this in-depth session, Sam Silverstein will teach you how to identify what you deeply believe as an organization and are willing to stand for. You will experience how to:

Ask the one key question that will help you form your Non-Negotiables

Forge absolutes—standards set that are not open to debate

Listen to your inner voice—the true source of your belief system—and bring those beliefs into sharper focus

Distinguish between your belief system and your personal mission

Practice your new-found Non-Negotiables at home and at the office

Influence others to fully align their beliefs with their actions

Establish your Non-Negotiables in a way that respects the rights of others—and motivates them to raise their game to yourstandards, even if their belief system is different from yours!

Accountability is the natural outflow from understanding what your beliefs are, what your mission is and what is Non-Negotiable™ for your organization. When you fully develop these three concepts you will discover that people will better understand why they should be Accountable as well as develop the desire to be Accountable.

Speaker Background Entrepreneur, business expert, and international author Sam Silverstein’s battle cry of “No More Excuses” has been heard by companies and business professionals the world over. Accountability is today’s competitive advantage to reclaim market share and win the heart of a hyper-discerning consumer.

Sam has shared his millionaire secrets on over 450 radio stations and on CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. He is the founder of the Accountability Academy®, has authored ten books and has been a contributing author to countless publications throughout his incredible career. Upwards of 40,000 business professionals subscribe to his monthly newsletter alone. Sam incites success everywhere he goes. He leaves those he meets challenged towards results and encouraged towards greatness. The momentum towards success is propelled by eliminating excuses and taking personal accountability for choices, actions and outcome. In his presentations Silverstein uses unforgettable illustrations and paints vibrant, often hilarious, always inspiring pictures for his audiences.

Sam served as the 2008-2009 President of The National Speakers Association and is a Certified Speaking Professional. Originally from Atlanta, he has a Business degree from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Washington University. He is married with four children and currently resides in St. Louis, MO.

SPEAKER Tuesday, February 18, 2014

1:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Swan 5 (7)

LARRY MAXWELL, AIA: “The Benefits and Impacts of Daylighting and

Fenestration on Building Energy Efficiency and the Impacts of LEED and Building Energy Codes”

Presentation Overview Daylighting can be the most single most significant strategy impacting building energy use and building occupant comfort and enjoyment if designed and incorporated properly. If not designed and incorporated properly, it can also have the single most significant negative im-pact on a building’s energy consumption, and occupant comfort or enjoyment. Proper fenes-tration selection and specification can be the determinant of either outcome.

Numerous misconceptions exist concerning what daylighting is and how it impacts either sce-nario. The requirements of the Building Codes, and specifically the energy codes, and the requirements and goals of USGBC’s LEED and other similar programs can add further mis-conceptions and misunderstandings. This program will present and promote the benefits of daylighting, and dispel myths concerning the impacts of the Building Codes and building certi-fications programs such as LEED.

Speaker Background Lawrence Maxwell, AIA, is president of Spacecoast Architects, P.A., a firm in its 23th year of business in Florida. He holds Associates, Bachelors, and Masters Degrees in Architecture, and Bachelors degrees in Geography and Urban and Regional Planning, and has been a Florida Licensed Architect for over 25 years.

Members‐OnlyMeetingSessions

Designating individual conference meetings as “members only” sessions shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors and/or Chairpersons with input and guidance from the Staff Liaisons. Whenever possible, members-only sessions shall be identified prior to the conference so that registered attendees may be properly informed about these sessions.

In addition, during any AAMA meeting, any voting member may make a motion to address a specific topic in a members-only session. If the motion is passed, all non-members in attendance will be excused from the meeting until the open session is reconvened. Chair must inform Staff of any impromptu members-only meetings as soon after the conclusion of those sessions as possible.

The following topics are offered as guidance for identifying subject matter that may warrant a members-only session:

Policy setting Research projects Funding Contract negotiations Legal matters directly related to AAMA and/or its activities New association program or service development AAMA personnel matters (such as recommendations for new staff positions)

Information reported by AAMA to non-members following the conclusion of a members-only session will include only the information determined by AAMA Marketing Staff to be appropriate for public disclosure.

To facilitate identification of non-member attendees, a specific color badge stock will be used for non-members and “Press” ribbons will be attached to the badges of all media representatives. In addition, each meeting agenda will include an item to introduce all new attendees, media and outside organization representatives that are present in the meeting. This will enable attendees to begin to recognize the press and take note of their involvement in meetings and potential media coverage, including quoting individuals at the event.

Note: While handling of meeting content in members-only sessions should be used as needed, non-members attending AAMA events include prospective members who are attending to explore the value of AAMA membership. Additionally, media representatives reporting on AAMA events provide free editorial publicity to AAMA and help to communicate important initiatives to industry professionals. AAMA member leaders and staff should carefully assess meeting content prior to designating a members-only session.

Effective: August 7, 2009 Revised: January 2010

Page 59: AAMA 77th Annual Conference · 2017. 2. 10. · 2014 AAMA 77TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE SCHEDULE OVERVIEW 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Golf Scramble Tournament - Lake Buena Vista Golf Course

38

MediaAttendancePolicy

All media representatives must comply with the non-member meeting attendance policy. As with all other non-member attendees, media representatives will be identified with a different color badge stock and will additionally have a “Press” ribbon. In addition, each agenda will include an item to introduce all new attendees, media and outside organization representatives at the beginning of each meeting.

Information reported by AAMA to media representatives following the conclusion of a members-only session will include only the information determined by AAMA Marketing Staff to be appropriate for public disclosure.

All media representatives attending AAMA conferences shall be required to sign the Quality Commitment Statement prior to attending a conference stating that, as an invited guest of the Association, they will obtain advance permission to record sessions other than general sessions and award presentations. This agreement will be kept on file by Marketing Staff for the duration of that media representative’s tenure with the publication. If the media representative begins working for a different publication, a new Quality Commitment Statement will be required. In addition, the agreement will require media representatives to honor any request by an individual participating in the event to not be quoted in order to comply with the respective media policies maintained by his/her company.

For all event attendees, including media, unauthorized recording of AAMA committee/task group meetings and social events is prohibited, whether by video, still or digital photography, audio or any other recording or reproduction mechanism. Please contact AAMA Marketing Staff to obtain authorization for recording specific sessions. Appropriate Chairs will be notified of all recording authorizations issued so that meeting attendees may be informed of these recordings at the beginning of the session.

Effective January 1, 2010, media representatives will no longer be required to obtain signed quotation authorization forms. However, media representatives will introduce themselves at the beginning of each meeting during AAMA events as prompted, including the Opening General Session at each national conference. Members are asked to consider their company’s media policy when attending meetings where media are present and communicate any relevant company policies to the media as needed. The media will be required to adhere to this as part of the Quality Commitment Statement.

Note: As part of developing the AAMA non-member meeting attendance policy and related AAMA media policy, the AAMA Membership Committee reviewed the definitions and eligibility for all member classifications. A recommendation was forwarded to the Board of Directors to eliminate membership eligibility for publishers and media representatives since that segment of industry professionals is not a primary target for AAMA and is outside the primary scope of the organization which is to support companies and/or individuals that produce, test or select fenestration products. As of August 7, 2009, the AAMA Board of Directors adopted this recommendation which also permits appropriate enforcement of the AAMA non-member meeting attendance policy and related AAMA media policy.

Effective: August 7, 2009 Revised: May 2010

AAMA COUNCIL OR PRODUCTS GROUP DOCUMENT BALLOTING PROCEDURES

In order to assure that ballots are completed in a timely manner, an initial ballot period of 20 days shall be provided unless a 10 day extension is required. A ballot reminder shall be sent 10 days after the beginning of the ballot period to all non-respondents unless a 60% return has been achieved. If a 60% return has not been achieved after 25 days, a second reminder shall be sent to all non-respondents. Five days shall be allowed after the second reminder before the vote of non-respondents is counted as an abstention.

The choices in responding to a ballot shall be as follows: Approve Approve with Comment Disapprove with Comment Abstain

At least 2/3 of the total of “approve”, “approve with comment”, and “disapprove with comment” ballot responses returned must vote “approve” or “approve with comment” in order to approve the ballot action.
