ABR10 Committee .....Vision and Mission
Vision: A Secure and Resilient Transportation Infrastructure Mission: To advance research, knowledge, and collaboration in transportation infrastructure protection from an all-hazards, all-modes, and whole community perspective.
5
ABR10 Subcommittees Cyber Security
(Mike Dinning) Identifies cyber security research needs and support TRB research initiatives related to cyber security .
Physical Security (Dr. Rae Zimmerman) Supports bridge and tunnel security initiatives jointly with TRB Committees, AASHTO, FHWA, TSA and DHS.
Risk and Resilience (Dr. Silvana Croope) Addresses Risk Assessment and Planning.
Supply Chain (Dr. Maria Burns) Explores the evolution of the global supply chain with respect to homeland security and infrastructure protection issues.
Workforce Development (Dr. Gouranga Banik) Workforce preparedness is critical in the detection of unusual events, incidents, and behavior; the identification of vulnerabilities; effective implementation of security and safety measures, procedures, and protocols; and in emergency response.

Maritime - U.S. Inland Waterways
More than 25,000 miles (40,000 km) of navigable waters.
The inland and intracoastal waterway system handles about 630 million tons of cargo annually, or about 17 percent of all intercity freight by volume. 9
Maritime – Ports Each of our 50 states relies on at least 15 seaports to
handle its imports and exports, which total more than $3.8 billion worth of goods moving in and out of U.S. seaports each day.
U.S. seaports handle more than 2 billion tons of domestic,
import and export cargo annually. The Department of Transportation projects that, compared
to tonnages recorded in 2001, total freight moved through U.S. ports will increase by more than 50 percent by 2020 and the volume of international container traffic will more than double.

Rail Accidents July 2013
Quebec town of Lac-Megantic runway train hauling 72 carloads of crude oil derailed, exploded, killed 47 people and destroyed 30 buildings.
October 2013 Derailed train in Alberta carrying crude
ignited a blaze and caused evacuation of nearby residents.
November 2013 Train hauling oil to the Gulf Coast from
North Dakota, derailed in Alabama setting off more fires.
December 2013 2,400 residents of nearby Casselton,
N.D. evacuated their homes as the winds shifted overnight, blowing black soot toward the town.
January 2015 American oil trains spilled crude oil
more often in 2014 than in any year since the federal government began collecting data on such incidents in 1975.
By frequency of spills, 2014 set a new high with 141 "unintentional releases," according to data from the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
By comparison, between 1975 and 2012, U.S. railroads averaged just 25 spills a year.

Physical Security April 20, 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill
April 16, 2013 Communication cables methodically cut and then more than 100
rifle bullets were sprayed. Result - 17 of the station’s 23 transformers near a Pacific Gas &
Electric substation in San Jose were knocked out. Nearby users of electricity were told to cut usage. Though the utility was able to prevent a power failure by diverting
electricity from other areas, damage took 27 days to repair.
January 9, 2014 Chemical spill into the Elk River, Charleston, W VA. 300,000 residents within nine counties in the Charleston, West
Virginia metropolitan area were without access to potable water. 12
Cyber Security February 2013: Mandiant
Mandiant security firm released report that a unit of China's People's Liberation Army carried out attacks on U.S. corporations.
May 2013: New York U.S. Attorney, Eastern District of New York
announced charges in a $45 million bank heist involving stolen account information.
July 2013: New Jersey U.S. Attorney for New Jersey announced charges
in the largest theft of credit card data. This criminal enterprise breached the computer networks of at least 17 major retailers, financial institutions, and payment processors and obtained more than 160 million credit and debit card numbers.
December 2013: Target Target: hackers had stolen data from 40 million
credit and debit card shoppers who purchased items at its stores between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15.
October 2014: JP Morgan Chase JPMorgan Chase Bank, the nation's largest by
assets, disclosed last week that 76 million households were affected by the breach, which took place over the summer
November 2014: Sony Pictures The Sony Pictures Entertainment hack was a
release of confidential data belonging to Sony Pictures Entertainment on November 24, 2014. The data included personal information about Sony Pictures employees and their families, e-mails between employees, information about executive salaries at the company, copies of (previously) unreleased Sony films, and other information.
February 2015: Health insurer Anthem Inc, Anthem, the second-largest
U.S. health insurer reported that 8.8 million to 18.8 million people who were members of other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans could be victims in the attack.
June 2015: Office of Personnel Management In June 2015, the United States Office of
Personnel Management (OPM) announced that it had been the target of a data breach targeting the records of as many as four million people.[1] Later, FBI Director James Comey put the number at 18 million.
