Conflict Displaces Around 300 Badakhshan Families
KABUL - The situation in Ghazni City, which came under multipronged attack from Taliban on August 10, has returned to normal, says a UN agency.In an update, the UN Office for Coordination of Humani-tarian Assistance (OCHA) said residents moved freely and markets in the provincial capital had reopened.Telecommunications net-works, electricity and water supply are back to normal and government offices have reopened, with the main hos-pital is functioning.However, the hospital con-tinues to be overstretched with treating trauma pa-tients. FAIZABAD - Clashes over the past six months have displaced around 300 families in Arghanj Khwa dis-trict of northeastern Badakhshan province.Farhenaz Pamiri, a provincial coun-cil member, told Pajhwok Afghan News that at least 35 displaced fam-ilies had so far visited the Provincial Council office, asking for improve-ment of security in their areas so they could return to their homes.She claimed the displaced families had asked the government to re-cruit their men in the security forces to defend their areas. “The situation of these displaced families is really grim, they are without shelter since fleeing homes towards Sheghnan, Baharak dis-tricts and the capital of Badakh-shan, if the families are not helped, they may land in serious trouble with the arrival of winter,” she added.Ziba Khanum, 40, who fled home in Dasht-i-Shiwa area of Arghanj Khwa district to Faizabad city, the provincial capital, said: “Our area is controlled by Taliban who usurped all our belongings, they killed our men and married our girls to their own members (by force), they ex-pelled us from our homes and now use our homes as their bastions.”Bismillah, another displaced per-son who ...(More on P4)...(7)

KABUL - National Unity Government (NUG) CEO Abdullah Abdullah praised former National Security Adviser (NSA) Mohammad Haneef Atmar for his hard work and expressed his regret over his sudden resignation. Atmar stepped down on Saturday after having served in the position since the establishment of the National Unity Government in 2014.Speaking on Monday at the Council of Ministers
Meeting, Abdullah said Atmar had been a strong and capable manager. “Atmar was a capable and strong manager, and he did his duties with ability and dignity, and he repre-sents Afghanistan very well,” Abdullah said. “I am sorry that he has resigned; wish him all the best,” Abdullah added.
