SPECULATIVE, SPECTACULAR! CENTER FOR DANCE AND MUSICKeywords: abstraction, pixelation, distortion, representation shiftThe purpose of a dance and music center allows for one to understand how to dance and express yourself to the world. The concept for this center is to express its interior activities through distortion and pixelation. The actions occurring within the building are partially communicated to the outside, while the occupants views of the world are distorted. This was pursued by using my mask as a form generator and study model. The linear shifting movement and perpendicular rotation of the units were influenced by the site context, and characteristics found in Manhattan. Specifically, the street grids, variations in buildings, commingled traffic systems, and constant variance of activity. The high level of density, continuous livelinesses, and growth in the city provided an appropriate setting for a building of distortion. The intent is to intrigue interest and pull viewers into the dance center. Within the center, they are able to focus and understand dance because the surrounding area is partially controlled and transmitted through the building form and spacial qualities.

SITE PLAN

COMMUNE RETREAT : AGGREGATIONS HOUSING + LANDSCAPE Keywords: cluster, gradient, density, continuity, and integration.

The goal of this studio was to understand the implications of designing an aggregated architectural construct; we developed new architectural “design models” that inherently dealt with form, landscape, housing program, interior spaces, structural typologies and circulation; and we investigated new dynamic relationships between building and landscape and how they formulated a plausible architectural result for our building program and site. I became interested with integrating various systems into a single language, which I applied to the relationship between building, site, retaining walls, and the surrounding trees.
