Theyear2007provedtobeespeciallysignificantintheimpetusgivenbypublicadministrationstoresearch,developmentandinnovation(R&D&I).

TheEuropeanUnion(EU)startedupthe7th2007-2013FrameworkProgram(FP7)inR&D.Withadurationofsevenyears,insteadofthefour-yearlengthofpreviousprograms,thebudgethasincreasedconsiderably:�3.2billioneurosintotal.SpainwasallocatedaBusinessR+DTechnologicalFundof2billioneurosforthisperiod.

Accordingtoa2007surveybytheNationalInstituteofStatistics(INE),inSpainR&Dinvestmentin200�roseto1.2percentofGDP,witha1�percentincreaseoverthepreviousyear(200�).Theaimcontinuestobe2percentofGDPin2010,agoalthatseemsplausible.Therefore,itmustbepointedoutthatBusinessR&Dgrewby20percent,reaching��percentoftotalR&Dinvestment.IntheR&Dfield,�,000newresearchersjoinedcompaniesand2,000morewereincorporatedinthePublicSystemintheR&Dfield.

InNovember2007,the�thNationalPlanforScientificResearch,DevelopmentandTechnologicalInnovationwasapprovedforthe2008-2011period.Itisstructuredintofourareas:generationofknowledgeandcapabilities,promotionofR&Dcooperation,sectortechnologicaldevelopmentandinnovation,andstrategicactions.ThenewplanseekstointensifyR&Dcooperationbetweenbusinessandthepublicsystem,especiallyinthelasttwoareas.Abengoahasactivelyparticipatedonthecommitteessetupunderthe�thPlan,andconsidersthefocusonEnergyandClimateChangetobeverypositive.

Abengoainvested�9millioneuroinR&D&In200�.Thisyear�9millioneurohasbeeninvestedandthefigureprojectedfor2008is101millioneuro.ThesefiguresconfirmAbengoa’scommitmenttoinnovationasthebasisforlong-termsustainablegrowth.

Therearecurrentlyover��0peopleworkingatAbengoainresearchanddevelopment.MostR&D&Iactivitiesarecarriedoutthroughdemonstrationprojects.Atpresentthereareoverahundredprojectsinprogress,thefollowingbeingamongthem:

• ConstructioninKansas(UnitedStates)oftheworld’sfirstcommercialplantforproducingbioethanolfromlignocellulosicbiomass.ThisprojectreceivespartialfinancingfromtheU.S.DepartmentofEnergy(DOE),andhasreceiveda7�-million-dollarnon-recoverablesubsidy.FordevelopingthisprojectpartnershipagreementsweremadewiththeUniversityofAuburninAlabama.

• I+DEAProjectfordevelopingproductionandusetechnologiesforbioethanolasabiofuel.Withabudgetof29millioneuros,intheexecutionofthisprojectcollaborationagreementsweresignedwiththefollowinguniversities:Seville,ValenciaPolytechnic,Comillas,MadridPolytechnicandCastilla-LaMancha.TheprojectreceivespartialfinancingfromtheCenitprogramoftheMinistryofIndustry,CommerceandTourism.

Strategy and financing in innovation

Abengoa’spolicyisfocusedonthecreationoflong-termvalue.AtAbengoa,innovationisgearedtowardresults,withthreetangibleobjectives:

• Diversification:newproductsandservices.• Differentiation:improvingandadaptingexistingproductsandservices.• Processimprovement

Theintangibleaimspursuetheacquisitionofbasiccompetenciesand,aboveall,thecreationofforward-lookingoptions.Thisgoalisespeciallytiedtovalue,throughanticipatedgrowthandthedevelopmentofnewbusinesses.

InternallinesofinnovationarelargelybasedonAbengoa'smainbusinesses:bioenergy,solarenergy,H2hydrogentechnologies,informationtechnologiesanddesalination.

Inordertofinancethecompany’sresearchandinnovationprojects,inadditiontoAbengoa’sannualinvestment,thereareotherexternalfundingchannels:subsidies,partnershipswithuniversitiesandresearchcenters,andsharedR&D.

Hydrogen technologies: HynergreenTechnologies.HynergreenistheAbengoacompanythatseekstodevelopprojectsinvolvingtheproductionofelectricityusingfuelcells,aswellashydrogenproductionfromrenewableenergysources.

Emissions management: ZeroEmissionsTechnologies.CompanysetupbyAbengoatoencompassactivitiesinthefightagainstgreenhousegasemissions.Itsmainactionareasarethefollowing:

1. R&D&Itodevelopsolutionsforeliminatinggaseswithahighgreenhouseeffectlevel.2. MDL/AC(MechanismsforCleanDevelopmentandJointAction)Projects.Throughthesetwo

mechanismsputforthbytheKyotoProtocol,countriescommittedtoemissionsreductionscanreachcompliancethroughprojectstoreduceemissionsinothercountries.

3. Participationincarbonfunds,asyetanothercommitmenttosustainabledevelopment.

CO2 storage and capture.Abengoaparticipatesindiverseplatformsandgroundbreakingnationalandinternationalprojectsinthisarea.OuraimistodevelopthetechnologyneededtobeabletosecurelycaptureandconfineCO

2,theprimarycauseofthegreenhouseeffect.

Energy efficiency. AtAbengoaweareconvincedoftheneedtocombinetheuseofcleansourcesofenergywiththedevelopmentofalternativesforachievinggreaterefficiencyinthegeneration,distributionandconsumptionofenergy.Wethereforeconductresearchanddevelopmentontechnologiesforthefollowingpurposes:

1. Toincreaseefficiencyintheconversionfromprimaryenergy(fuel-oil,gas,coal,wind,sun,etc.)tousableenergy(electricity,heat,etc.).

2. Toreducelossesintransmissionanddistributionsystems.3. Toincreaseefficiencyintheconversionofconsumedenergytousefulwork.

New renewable energy sources. Abengoaworksinthedevelopmentoftheso-calledemergingrenewableenergies,thosewithgreatfuturepotentialthatarestillintheR+Dphase.

University Collaboration

Abengoahasalong-standingtraditionofcollaborationwithuniversities.UsuallythispartnershipisimplementedthroughjointR&Dprojects,scholarshipprogramsforupperclassmenanddoctoratesthroughspecificagreementswithdifferentresearchgroups.

TherearecurrentlysignedcollaborationagreementsforR&D&Iprojectswith2�Spanishuniversitiesand13universitiesabroad.(*)

Abengoa’s R&D&I Projects

Demonstration projects

Abengoabelievesthatdemonstrationprojectsareakeyinstrumentforcarryingoutapolicyofinnovationinthedevelopmentofnewproductstobeintroducedintothemarket.Demonstrationprojectsachieveoperationalvalidationofaninnovativeproduct,systemorprocessanditsmarketproof.Theyalsofacilitateknowledgeofitscostinordertofixarealstartingprice,whichcanlaterbeloweredthroughtheexperiencecurve.Inaddition,demonstrationprojectsleadtoarealdemandforR&Dfrompublicadministrationthatgivessciencethecapacitytoservetheneedsofsociety.

Abengoa,throughitscompanies,alwayshasdozensofdemonstrationprojectsunderway,targetedatthemarketandgearedtowardcreatingvalue,usuallyincollaborationwithnumerousscientificinstitutionsanddifferenttechnologicalagents.Manyoftheseprojectsreceivepublicfunding.

Inthiscontext,noteworthyexamplesaretheactivitiesconductedbyAbengoaBioenergyontheproductionofbioethanolfromlignocellulosicbiomass(currentlyobtainedfromcereal).Theaimofthisprojectistoturncornhusksandstalklitterfromothercereals,aswellasagriculturalwaste,intobioethanol,whichwillbringnewbenefitstofarmers,lowerproductioncost,bringingitclosertothatofgasoline,andwillreducethegreenhouseeffect,asplants-therawmaterialforbioethanolproduction-absorbCO

2throughthe

chlorophyllfunction.Withaninvestmentestimatedat3�,�78,7��US$overfiveyears,thisprojecthasreceivedconsiderablenon-recoverablefundingfromtheDepartmentofEnergyoftheFederalGovernmentoftheUnitedStates,foratotalof17.�milliondollars,whichconstitutes�0%ofinvestment.

BelowisalistofotherprojectsinInnovationstartedupanddevelopedoverthecourseof2007atAbengoa’scompanies.

Solar Energy

AbengoaSolarbelievesthatinvestmentinR&D&Iisvitalinordertobeabletoofferthebestsolarenergy-basedsolutionsforcontributingtothefightagainstclimatechangeandensuringsustainabledevelopment.Thisiswhytheyaremakingheavyinvestmenteffortsinordertolead,throughtheirownresourcesandbymeansofagreementswithleadinginstitutions,ahighlyambitiousprograminresearchanddevelopment.

Thisprogramhastwogoals:

1. Toleadinthedevelopmentofthegenerationandstoragetechnologiesweconsidermostadvantageousforthefuture.

In2007,AbengoaSolarmadeprogressinthefollowingprojects:

• Repow PS10.DesignandconstructionofaparabolictroughcollectorfacilityemployingETtechnologyandthermaloilworkingfuelwithanopeningof3,�00squaremetersforgenerating��-bar,2�7-degree-centigradesaturatedsteam.ThesteamwillbestoredinpressurizedwatertanksandprocessedatPS10,theworld’sfirstcommercialtowerinuse.ThePS10solarplantisequippedfor30minutesofstorageand,underconditionsoflowradiation,canburnbetween12and1�%innaturalgas.Theplantwillgenerate2�.3GWhofcleanenergyandpreventtheemissionof�,700mTofCO

2

eachyear.TheprojecthasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheAndalusianEnergyAgency.• GDV. GDV concept validation. Directsteamgenerationinparabolictroughcollectorfieldsand

towertechnology.TheprojecthasreceivedaidfromtheAndalusianTechnologyCorporationandIDEA.

• AZ TH Dishes. Eighty-kilowattgrosspoweroutputcapacityStirlingtechnologydemonstrationplant,madeupofeightparabolicdishes,eachproducing10kilowatts.IthasreceivedaidfromtheAndalusianEnergyAgency.

• Superheated steam receiver.In2007theSolarbusinessunithasadvancedintheconstructionofademonstrationhigh-temperaturetowerwithapproximatelytwomegawattsofpoweroutputcapacity.Thisplant,beingbuiltbasedontheexperiencewithPS10andPS20,willallowtheproductionofsuperheatedsteam,leadingtosignificantimprovementsinturbineefficiency.ItreceivesaidfromtheCenterforIndustrialTechnologicalDevelopment(CDTI).

• Saturated steam receiver,basedontowertechnology,forimplementingimprovementsmakingoperationofthiskindofreceivermoresecureandprofitablebyreducingself-consumptionanddependenceontheflowmap.ItreceivesaidfromtheCenterforIndustrialTechnologicalDevelopment(CDTI).

• Photovoltaic laboratory. Creationofaphotovoltaiclaboratoryforanalyzingtheenergyproductioncostsofdifferenttechnologiesandconfigurations;improvingproductioncostthroughoptimizationofphotovoltaicdevicesandsystems,andpreventingandresolvingproblemsduringthelifeofthedevices(modules,inverters,etc.)andphotovoltaicsystems.

Bioenergy

ThestrategicmissionofAbengoaBioenergyNewTechnologiesconsistsofdevelopinganddemonstratingtechnologicalsolutionsthroughscienceandinnovation,withtheaimofmeetingAbengoaBioenergy’sstrategyplantargets,whichincludethefollowing:

• Developandmarketbiomasstechnologiesatcompetitiveprices.• Increasetheaddedvalueofexistingbyproductsanddevelopnewbyproducts.• Improvecurrentdrymillingtechnology.• Promotethedevelopmentofenergycrops.• Developend-useprogramsforbiofuels.

In2007,AbengoaBioenergyconductedworkonthefollowingprojects:

• Development and construction of the world's first commercial plant for producing bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass inKansas,UnitedStates.InordertocarryoutthisprojectpartnershipagreementswerereachedwiththeUniversityofAuburninAlabama.ThisprojectreceivespartialfinancingfromtheU.S.DepartmentofEnergyoftheUnitedStates(DOE),withanon-recoverablesubsidyof7�milliondollars.

• I+DEA project for developing technology for production and use of bioethanol asabiofuel,withabudgetof29millioneuros.Inordertocarryoutthisproject,AbengoaBioenergyfinalizedcollaborationagreementswiththeuniversitiesofSeville,ValenciaPolytechnic,Comillas,MadridPolytechnicandCastilla-LaMancha.Itispartiallyfinancedbythe"Cenit"programoftheMinistryofIndustry,CommerceandTourism.

• Advanced Biorefining of Distillers Grain and Corn Stover Blends.TheDepartmentofEnergyoftheUnitedStates(DOE)andAbengoaBioenergyR+Dsignedafive-yearcontractin200�forthedevelopmentofbiorefinerytechnology.AbengoaBioenergyR&Dleadstheteamthatisdevelopingthisinnovativetechnologyforprocessingbiomassderivatives,whichutilizestheadvancedbiorefineryofblendsoftheDGSofthegrain(abyproductofbioethanolproductionwithahighproteincontent)andthebiomassfromcorncropsinordertoobtainincreasedproductionofbioethanoland,atthesametime,maintaintheproteinnutritionalvalue.Thistechnologywillleadtoamoresustainableandeconomicindustry,reducepetroleumconsumptionperliterofproducedbioethanolandwillincreasetheavailabilityofbioethanol.TheprojectreceivesaidfromtheU.S.DepartmentofEnergy.

• BC and L demonstration plant.AbengoaBioenergybuiltthisplant,theworld’sfirstcommercial-scalebiomassplant,inordertotestthetechnologyofturningbiomassintobioethanol.Theplantwillprocess70tonsperdayofagriculturalwaste,suchaswheatchaff,toproduce�millionlitersofbioethanoleachyear.Itsultimateaimistodevelopgasoline-competitiveproductiontechnologies.ItreceivessubsidiesfromtheEuropeanUnion�thFrameworkProgram.

• Research on E-diesel use.E-dieselisafuelthatisobtainedbyaddingbioethanoltoconventionalgasoline,withapercentagethatcanvarybetween�and1�%,alongwithanadditivetoensurethestabilityoftheblend.Itcanbeusedinanydieselengine.ItisbeingconductedincollaborationwiththeCideautFoundationandtheE-dieselConsortiumoftheUnitedStates.TheprojecthasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheMinistryofEducationandScience.

• Agrobihol. Energycropsourrapid-growthcropsusedforproducingenergy(electricityorliquidfuels)usingapartofortheentireplant.AbengoaBioenergy’sobjectiveinthisprojectistoproduceethanolfromSpanishcropsfromcerealswithhighstarchcontent;fromlignocellulosicmaterial,suchasstraw,orothergrassandstalkcrops.Inaddition,theviabilityofproducingbioethanolfromsorghumorpotatoisalsounderstudy,andtheuseofbioethanolasanalternativefuelinethanol-gasolineandethanol-gasoilblendsinconventionalvehicles,aswellashydrogenproductionforfuelcells.TheprojectreceivessubsidiesfromtheMinistryofEducationandScience.

• Bioethanol Transformation. AbengoaBioenergyismakingaconsiderableeffortinperfectinghydrogengenerationsystemsfrombioethanol.Tothisend,workisbeingconductedontransformingethanol,achemicalprocessbywhichhydrogenisgeneratedthankstothesteamandcatalystreaction.Theresearchprojectshaveledtoobtaininganethanol-transformingcatalystandtheconstructionoftwopilotplantsforaccumulatingthousandsofoperationhours.Thedemonstrationfacilityforthistechnologyhasbeencompleted,whichhasfacilitatedacquisitionofexhaustiveknowledgeofthedesign,operationandcostsassociatedwiththistechnology,andindeterminingaspectstobereviewedforitsoptimization.TheprojecthasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheSpanishNavy.

AresearchprojectedconductedinconjunctionwiththeHighCouncilofScientificResearch(CSIC).TheaimoftheprojectistodevelopacatalystcapableofproducingethanolfromSyngas(basicallyhydrogenandcarbonmonoxide).Itrepresentsakeystepinthethermo-chemicalchannelforobtainingethanolfrombiomass.ItisfinancedentirelybyAbengoaBioenergy.

• DOE ethanol catalyst development project. TheU.S.DepartmentofEnergy(DOE)selectedAbengoaBioenergyR&D(ABRD)todevelopanethanolcatalyst.Inthisprogram,besidesABRD,projectleader,twolaboratoriesareparticipating(ArgonneNationalLaboratoryandthePacificNorthwestNationalLaboratory),twouniversities(WashingtonUniversityandLehighUniversity)andtheresearchorganizationsofGTIandAvantium.Thetotalbudgetexceeds3,�70,000dollars.TwentypercentisprovidedprimarilybyABRD,andtheremaining80percentcomesfromtheDOE.Itrepresentsabasicresearchprogramfordevelopingasynthesizingethanolcatalystandcharacterization,aswellasfastsiftersandtestinginthereactionsystems,elucidationofreactionmechanismsandkinetics,durabilitytests,andsimulationanddevelopmentprocesses.TheaimisthustoobtainacatalystthatcanexecuteSyngasbioethanolsynthesisatareasonablecost.

• RENEW. TheRENEWprojectaimstodevelop,compare,demonstrate(partially)andtestarangeoffuelproductionchainsformotorvehiclefuels.Inthisproject,coordinatedbyVolkswagenAG(Germany),AbengoaBioenergyparticipatesasakeypartnerforoptimizingbioethanolproductionfrombiomassbymeansofenzymatichydrolysisandgasificationandthermo-chemicalcatalysis,aswellastoproducebyproducts.Forthesetasks,AbengoaBioenergyhascollaborationfromthechemicalengineeringdepartmentoftheAndalusianIndustrialResearchandCooperationAssociation(AICIA)andtheUniversityofSeville.Theprojectisfinancedbythe�thFrameworkProgramoftheEuropeanUnion.

TheR&D&IstrategyofAbengoa’sEnvironmentalServicesisfocusedoncreatingvalueanddevelopingnewtechnologiesforconductingouractivitiesinasustainableway.Befesa’sR&D&Istrategicplanhasthefollowingobjectives:

• Tobecometechnologicallycompetitiveleadersintheindustryofaluminumwasterecyclingandgalvanizedsteel.

• New treatment of filter dust residue for its inerting. PhaseIII.AprogramdevelopedincollaborationwithInasmet,ithasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheCenterforIndustrialTechnologicalDevelopment(CDTi).

• Paval improvement through the study of slag reactivity in order to ascertain via computer the advancement in the saline slag reaction.ThefirstphaseoftheprojectendedinMarchwithsuccess,applyingtheValladolidandWalesreactormodel.

• SPL treatment in collaboration with Alcoa.Theprojectinvolvesfindinganapplicationofthecarbonouspartoftheelectrolysiscellsused(SPL)intheproductionofprimaryaluminum.Itrepresentsanenvironmentalservicefortheseplants,whichneedtorecyclethismaterial.TheprojecthasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheTechnologicalResearchPromotionProgram(Profit).

• Ecoretech. DevelopmentofnewPaval/BFAapplicationsforarchitectureprojects.Pavalisasalineslaggeneratedintheproductionofsecondaryaluminum;itisaninsolublesolidandahazardouswaste,composedofaluminumoxideandalowerportionofsiliconoxideandmagnesiumoxide.

• PP+FV. Industrialinstallationfortheproductionofmaterialscomposedofpurepolypropyleneorrecycledandreinforcedwithfiberglassresiduesfromtheproductionwastethatiscurrentlydumped.TheprojecthasreceivedaloanfromtheCenterforIndustrialTechnologicalDevelopment(CDTI).

• Pilot plant for energy-chemical capturing of residual gases in the process of recycling steel mill dust. ItisbeingcarriedoutinconjunctionwiththeEuskoikerFoundationandtheAdvancedIndustrialEngineeringSchoolofBilbao.

• Obtaining new products from Purified Waelz Oxide (D-L.W.O.®). BeingconductedincollaborationwiththeEuskoikerFoundationandtheAdvancedIndustrialEngineeringSchoolofBilbao.

• Study for reducing sulfur and fluoride concentration in the dump at the Befesa Zinc Aser, S.A. plant. IncollaborationwiththeEuskoikerFoundationandtheAdvancedIndustrialEngineeringSchoolofBilbao.

• Construction of a facility for pelletization of zinc oxide to lower diffuse emissions of solid particles generated in the manufacture of zinc oxide by 80 percent.

• Production of fiberglass-reinforced thermoplastic compounds.

• Restoring contaminated soil using non-hazardous waste and other byproducts. WithsubsidiesfromtheTechnicalResearchPromotionProgram(Petri)oftheMinistryofEducationandScience,andfromtheMinistryoftheEnvironmentprogram.

• Development of Oxygenated Additives from Glycerines.TheprojecthasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheTechnicalResearchPromotionProgram(Profit)oftheMinistryofEducationandScience.

• Pretreatment of fuel for vitrification. Theprojectisfocusedonthedesignoftheprocessofpretreatmentofwasteuponenteringthevitrificationprocess,sothatafeedfuelcanbeobtainedfortheprocess,ensuringproperfunctioningandallowingvalorizationofthesynthesisgasobtained.

• High-Efficiency Desalination Pilot Plant.Theplant'sobjectiveistoreduceenergyconsumptionintheprocessesofdesalinationbyreverseosmosis,below2.�kilowattshour/squaremeter.Thisimpliesobtainingpotablewaterfromseawateratareasonableprice,whichisessentialforsustainabledevelopment.Tothisend,analysisisbeingconductedonthehigh-pressurepumpingsystems,reverseosmosismembranesandenergyrecoverysystems.TheprojecthasbeengrantedasubsidyfromtheCouncilforInnovation,ScienceandCommercefromtheAndalusianGovernment.

• Development of advanced pre-treatment systems for desalination. Designofanoptimumsystemforpre-treatmentfordesalinationplantsthatminimizesinvestmentandoperationcosts,ensuringwaterquality,aswellasplantreliabilityandavailability.Tothisend,developmentisunderwayonphysicochemicalprocesstechnologies,theircombinationandsubsequentapplicationtodesalination.TheprojecthasreceivedasubsidyfromtheCouncilforInnovation,ScienceandCommercefromtheAndalusianGovernment.

• Study of the brine dilution phenomenon. Theaimofthisprojectistoacquirein-depthunderstandingofthephysicsofthebrinedilutionphenomenoninmarinebeds;developtoolsforsimulatingsaidphenomenonvalidatedthroughrealresults;createoptimaldiffusionsystemsandasystemforcontinuousmeasurementtomonitorbrineorrejectiondilutionindesalinatingplants.ThroughsubsidiesfromtheIdeaprogramoftheAndalusianGovernment.

• DeReDes: Development of Desalination with Renewable Energies. Theprojectaimstodrivebusinessactivityinthefieldofdesalination,throughdesign,installationandmaintenanceofsystemsusingrenewableenergysources.Inordertoachievethis,atechnical-economicevaluationisbeingcarriedoutcomparingdifferenttechnologies,andthethreepre-commercialplantsdeterminedasoptimalwillbedesignedforthreedifferentscenarios.ThroughsubsidiesfromtheMinistryofIndustry,CommerceandIndustryandtheTechnicalResearchPromotionProgram(Profit)oftheMinistryofEducationandScience.

TheInformationTechnologies,businessgroup,withTelventastheleadcompany,hasateamofover3�0peoplededicatedtoresearch,developmentandinnovation(R&D&I),distributedamongthegroup’snineproductandcompetencycentersallovertheworld.

TheproductcentersdeliverinfrastructuretechnologiesthatarethebasisforthedifferentsolutionsTelventoffers.Thesetechnologies,occasionallycommercializedinisolation,areusedbythecompetencycentersinordertodevelophigh-value-addedsystemsarchitecturesandadvancedapplications,specificallydevelopedforeachsector.Combinedwithourexperienceinbusinessprocessesandourservices,productsandsolutions,Telventdeliverscapabilitiesforreal-timedecision-makingtoourcustomers.

• Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Phase I. 2007markedthebeginningofthemulti-annualresearchprojectinresearchoncriticalinfrastructuresecurity.TheprojecthasbeguntoreapbenefitswiththefirstreportfromtheIdahoNationalLaboratory(INL)ontheevaluationofthesecurityofTelvent’sSCADAOASySDNA7.�system.

• Smart Client.ThisprogramisaimedatmodernizingtheOASySuserinterface.ThisyearworkhasbeenconductedonthenewezXOSversions,thenewinterface,compatiblewithclients’oldversionsofOASySwhicharestillinstalledattheirfacilities.

• CD-Platform.Developmentofahardwareandsoftwareplatformforreal-timeacquisitionsystemsthatagglutinatecurrentandfuturetendencies,applyingthemtoallTelventlines.TheinitiativeispartiallysubsidizedbytheMinistryofIndustry,TourismandCommerce,throughthePTCproject.

• Saitel Family.In2007workwascontinuedontheevolutionandmaintenanceoftheSaitelfamilyoftelecontrolequipmentoptions.TheyearhasseentheadventofanewcompactdevicewithhighcommunicationscapacityandintegratedE/S(Saicom_IO),speciallyintendedforoilandgas,environmentortheelectricsector.Inthesameway,anewmodulewasdeveloped,ST_SOL,forcontrollingheliostatsinsolarplants.

• Conduit Manager.Subterranean facility diagrams.

• ArcFM Solution.Itsevolutionledtothereleaseofthenewversion9.2andtwoservicepacksthisyear.

• Replication of the geospace database.ThemobilitycomponentsoftheArcFMsolutiongainedinfunctionalitywiththe9.2version.Thenewreplicationnowallowsincrementalupgradesofmobilefielddevicesfromacentralcompanyserver.Thispermitsworkcrewsoutinthefieldtoaccessupdatedversionsfromthecompanydatabaseinaveryefficientway.

• DesignerOptimalDesigns.Thesetoolsallowelectriccompaniestomakelower-costdesignsforthedevelopmentofundergroundresidentialnetworks.

• Responder.ResponderisTelvent’sOMS(OutageManagementSystem)productformanagingincidentsandserviceinterruptionsforelectriccompanies.

• Free Flow Toll Solution. Throughout2007wecontinuedtoperfectdetectionandclassificationequipment,andworkwasconductedonnewsystemsbymeansofopticalstandsandpiezoelectricsfordetectionofaxlesanddoublewheels,andonanewstate-of-the-arttelepaytaginconjunctionwithDeltaandFela.ThesolutioniscomplementedbythedevelopmentoftheBackOffice,aprojectthathasreceivedasubsidyfromtheBasqueGovernment.

• MobiFast. This project is focused on the design ofanewcompactcoindeviceforvendingmachinesofasmallersizeandinthedevelopmentofanewhybridvendingmoduleofC-tickets(contact-freetickets)andmagnetictickets,withintheobjectiveofcreatingnewequipmentanddevicesforcompletingtherangeofticketingproducts.

• Valtick.AprogramfordevelopinganewsolutionforbusticketingmanagementintegratingtheexpertiseandproductsofTelventandMaexbic.

• SmartTouch.An international consortium of European companies and universities that aims to integrate the functions provided by contact-free intelligent card-reading, which is in wide use in ticketing systems for cellular phones. It is financed by the Ministry of Industry.

• Reconoce.Thisproject,approachedasanevolutionoftheGeniusandAccess�Allprojectsforgivingself-salemachinesanoralinterfaceinnaturallanguage,isbasedonthemechanismsfornoisefilteringandtreatment.IthasreceivedsubsidiesfromtheBasqueGovernment.

• SAREF. Thisproject,beguntwoyearsago,seekstodeveloparailwayregulationsystemincollaborationwiththeCenterforRailwayTechnologiesResearch(CITEF).In2007alargeportionof

• Itaca.In2007workwasconductedonthedevelopmentofavariationofourreal-timetrafficcontrolsystem,Itaca,whichreducesinstallationcostsbyusingonlydatafromthedetectorsinthestopline.

• Shadow Toll.Throughthisprojectplannedovertwoyears,2007-2008,TelventisdevelopingaShadowTollSmartSystem.Differenttypesofsensorsfordetectingandclassifyingvehicleswereanalyzedandselected,andsystemspecificationwascompleted.Integrationofoneofthesesensorsintheremotefordatacollectionwasconducted,andthebasicsoftwareinfrastructurethatwillcompletethesolutionwasdevelopedaswell.

• m:VIA.Thisprojectinvolvesthedevelopmentofacellularplatformpermittingvehicle-infrastructureinteractionandallowingdriverstoreceiveavailableinformationduringtheirtrip.Theobjectiveoftheproject,whichisbackedbytheMinistryofIndustry,TourismandCommerce,isresearchanddevelopmentofbasicsystemsforcontentmanagement,bothfordockedelementsaswellasinfrastructure,fortrafficandtransportationsectorapplications.

• Gas Suite.ImprovementoftheGasSuiteinfrastructuretoallowbettercontrolofaccesstomeasurementdatahavingfinancialmateriality.GMAS,inparticular,isusedasanauditingtooltoensurecompliancewithregulationsoncorporategovernance,suchastheSarbanes-OxleyAct.

• Gas Suite Interface.Anewresearchprojectininterfacetechnologyandthemostefficientwaytopresentinformationwiththeaimofreducingfatigueandtheconsequenterrors.

• SimSuite Integration.SimSuitePipelineisakeycomponentoftheLMS(LiquidsSolutionsSuite)solution.Theobjectiveofthisprojectistoofferanintegratedsolutionwhichatthesametimelowerscostsinthelongrun.

• Next Generation Liquids Suite (NGLS).Anewstageintheprojectlaunchedin200�withtheaimofcreatingasuperproductbasedonthesolidnatureofexistingproducts.

• Pipeline Power Optimization.ThisapplicationisbasedontheLiquidsSuiteSimSuitemoduleanddeterminesenergyconsumptionandoperatingcostofapipelineatagivenmoment.Thisinformationisusedtodetermineoptimalpumpconfigurationinordertominimizecosts.

• Smart Grid Solutions Suite Smart Grid Solutions Suite (SGS).ThissolutionencompassestheSCADAOASyS,ArcFMEnterpriseGIS,ResponderOutageManagement,DMSDistributionManagement,TitaniumSmartMeterSolutionforautomatingsubstations.SGSwillprovide,amongotheradvantages,networkenergyefficiency,improvementsinconsumerservice,reductioninthefrequencyanddurationofserviceinterruptionsandpossibilitiesforintelligentmanagementofdemandwhichwereunheard-ofuntilnow.

• Denise.Thisrepresentsa�-year(2007-2011)researchprojectdevelopedbyaconsortiumcomprisedofrepresentativecompaniesfromtheelectricitysectorandSpanishresearchcenters.Theaimistoapplythelatestgenerationoftechnologiestocreateanewgenerationofnetworksforelectrical

• Cirrus 100 Ceilometer.Thiscloudheightsensor(ceilometer)willformpartoftheTelventproductcatalogueforaviationmeteorology.Itwillbeakeycomponentinairportsecurity,increasingconfidenceinsecurityduringtakeoffandlandingmaneuvers.

• Telmet 320.Telmet320isanewgenerationof/PRDdataacquisitionunits.Itsmaincharacteristicisitsflexibilityandscalability,whichmakeitsuitableforallapplicationsformeteorologicalobservationsystems,suchasAtmosphericWeatherStations(AWS),AviationWeatherObservationSystems(AWOS),RoadWeatherInformationSystems(RWIS)andMarineMeteorologicalSensors.

• Beftel(optimizedcontrolsystemfordesalinationplants).Theaimoftheprojectistodesignanddevelopanadvancedcontrolsystemthatwillpermitoptimizationintheoperationofadesalinationplant.Thisprojectbeganin200�andisbeingdevelopedinconjunctionwithBefesaCTA.ItissubsidizedbytheAndalusianTechnologicalCorporation,theMinistryofIndustry,TourismandCommerceandtheAndalusianGovernment.

• Telvent Hydrometeorology Decision Tool (THMDT).Theprojectaimstodesignanddevelopamonitoringandcontrolplatformforwatersheds,permittingintegrationofnewfieldtechnologiesformeasuringprecipitationandhydrologicalmodeling.InthedevelopmentoftheprojectthereiscollaborationfromtheHydrometeorologicalResearchGroupattheUniversityofCataloniaandfinancialsupportfromtheMinistryofIndustry,TourismandCommerceandtheCouncilforInnovation,ScienceandIndustryoftheAndalusianGovernment.

• Terwis 2.TheaimoftheprojectistoadvanceinthedevelopmentassociatedwiththeRoadWeatherInformationSystems.ThisprojectisaidedbytheMinistryofIndustry,TourismandCommerce.

• Tesemat.Thisprojectentailsthedesignanddevelopmentofasolarenergymanagementtoolforoptimizingsolarenergygenerationbymeansofexploitinganaccurateweatherforecastadaptedtotheneedsoftheoperator.Tesematwillallowefficientandsustainablehandlingofsolarplants.TheprojectisdevelopedinconjunctionwithSolucarR&D.Subsidiesweregrantedfor2007and2008bytheMinistryofIndustry,TourismandCommerce.

• Identica.TheIdenticaprojectarosein2007withtheobjectiveofconstructinganadvancedidentityverificationsystemthroughbiometricsandpersonaldocumentationinsecureenvironmentstorespondtothecurrentneedforunequivocalevidenceofaperson’sidentify,whileverifyingphysicalpresenceatthesametime.ItissubsidizedbytheMinistryofEducationandScience(MEC).

• Emissions reduction project in Sanlucar la Mayor. LedbyZeroEmissions,incollaborationwiththeInstituteforRegionalDevelopment,itaimstodeviseaplanofactionwithinstitutionandtechnologicalsolutionsforreducingemissionsinthemunicipalityofSanlucarlaMayorineachofitscontaminatingsectors(energy,transportation,industry,waste,etc.).Thefirstphaseoftheprojectwillinvolvecarryingoutadiagnosticevaluationofthemunicipalityinordertoascertaintheinitialbalanceofgreenhousegasemissions,and therebybeable to laterevaluate themeasuresadopted.Theultimateaim is toextendthesemoreeffectivemeasurestoothermunicipalities.

• Aquila Project. Development of electrical power generators for the aviation sector. • PlasmaGen Project.Todevelopaprocessforproducingcleanhydrogenbymeansofplasmareactors,workhasbeenconductedonperfectingthereformprocessusingplasmaasameansforproducinghydrogenfromdifferentsubstances.ItreceivesfinancingfromtheAndalusianAgencyofInnovationandDevelopment(IDEA),andcollaborationinitsdevelopmentfromtheInstituteofMaterialSciencesofSeville(ICMSE-CSIC).

• Project Hercules.Theobjectiveistodemonstratethattheproductionofrenewablehydrogenfromsolarenergyisviable,anditsapplicationinasectorasimportantaslandtransportationwouldcontributetoreducingemissionsandimprovinglocaleconomy.Throughthisproject,AbeinsaseekstoinstallaprototypeforaproductionplantandarenewablehydrogenservicestationinSanlucarlaMayor(Seville),withthecapabilityoffuelinganelectricvehicledesignedandbuilttorunonhydrogen,utilizingfuelcells.TheprojecthasreceivedfinancingfromtheAgencyforInnovationandDevelopmentofAndalusia(IDEA),andtheMinistryofEducationandScience,whichhascatalogueditasasingularscientific-technologicalprojectthatisstrategicinnature.TheHerculesprojectisanAndalusianinitiativegloballycoordinatedbyHynergreenandpromotedbyatotalof8partners.Hynergreen,SolucarR&D,SantanaMotor,CarburosMetálicos,GreenPower,theEnergyAgencyofAndalusia,theNationalAerospaceTechnologicalInstitute(INTA)andtheAssociationofResearchandIndustrialCooperationofAndalusia(AICIA).
