drive in posh areas such as Jayanagar, Indiranagar, Koramangla etc., we will only find
goorkhas and Doberman dogs but not poor people sleeping on the roads! Hence we
need to go to outskirts during the nights where the need is imperative like
slums/temples/bus stands/railway stations/ orphanages etc.,
So let us go out during the night after 10.30PM in a 2/4 wheelers (let it be slow drive
with family/friends) let us observe around in all directions. Sure we notice many
people who do not have proper cover on them sleeping on road sides, slums, bus
shelters, bus stands, railway stations, market areas. Just identify the needy and
silently go and cover them with a blanket…not even disturbing them from their sleep.
This would be possible all across the city.
Only thing is that we need to be little patient as if we are going to see Lord

Corporate shirking responsibility? Only 14 Nifty cos spent 2%
of net gain on CSR India Inc has been slow to warm up to new rules on corporate social responsibility (CSR)
spending with only 14 Nifty companies managing to spend the mandatory 2% of net profit
towards social causes in Fy15. A study of annual reports of Nifty companies by ET Intelligence
Group showed that 48 companies spent a combined Rs 4,252 crore during FY15. This is 1.6%
of the standalone net profit earned by Nifty companies for FY15. Two companies are yet to
publish their annual reports. "There is no readiness among companies to spend on CSR and
there is no readiness among NGOs to help corporates spend the money,"

The central government is set to bring a
notification under the Foreign Contribution
Regulation Act (FCRA). Officials familiar with
the matter, who spoke on the condition of
anonymity, told ET the notification will describe
any company registered in India as an "Indian
company" irrespective of its shareholding
pattern. Existing FCRA rules define a company as "Indian" only if
50 per cent or more shareholding is in Indian hands.
A home ministry spokesperson confirmed to ET that such a
"proposal is being examined", but added that the ministry "was
not in a position to say anything on the matter at present".
Officials said the logic for the new FCRA rule is that such a
redefinition will increase the corporate social responsibility (CSR)
fund kitty since under the Companies Act only Indian companies
are required to spend 2 per cent of their profits on CSR. Officials
also said the new rule will allow many more nongovernmental
organizations (NGOs) to access funds that would have previously
difficult to source since such resources would have come under the
foreign funds category .
FCRA changes may cause coffers of CSR
High level panel suggests uniform tax
treatment for CSR works The high level committee set up to
suggest measures for monitoring of
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
initiatives taken by India Inc has
recommended leniency for companies not
complying with CSR provisions of
Companies Act 2013. The committee has
also recommended a review of the
provisions after three years and has
asked for an increase in ceiling on
administrative overheads from the
present five per cent to not more than 10
per cent of CSR expenditure of the
company. The six-member committee
headed by former secretary Anil Baijal
was constituted in February to recommend suitable
methodologies for monitoring compliance of the CSR
provisions.
"Committee has rightly observed that CSR provisions are at a
very nascent stage. Accordingly leniency should be shown to
companies and harsher penalties shouldn't be there for non-
compliance," Anshul Jain, Partner at Luthra & Luthra Law offices
said. The panel has said that smaller companies which have CSR
spent of less than Rs 5 crore can combine their programme with
similar companies. The report says that CSR should not be
interpreted as a source of financing the resource gaps in
inclusive growth but the objective of this provision is to use the
corporate innovations and management skills in the delivery of
public goods. The committee has also suggested insertion of an
'omnibus clause', so that any activities that serve public purpose
are covered as eligible CSR activities.Ruling out the need to
monitor the CSR spend by firms, the panel said that the existing
principle of 'comply or explain' is sufficient for the time being
and “the government should have no role to play in engaging
external experts for monitoring the quality and efficacy of CSR
spend. The boards and the management are sufficiently
empowered to engage any external firm if they want.”

better livesAs a teenager, Vaishali Pai often visited
her mother, a clinical psychologist,
at her workp lace in the
rehabi l i tat ion centres of
Bombay's Indian Cancer
Society. She saw patients
struggling to cope with the
effects and after-effects of the
disease - both mental and
physical. "It was then that I
realized the body and mind must
heal together," says Pai, who
became an occupational therapist.
Occupational therapy uses assessment to h e l p
people with physical, mental or cognitive disorders develop
skills to live a better life. It has a long and storied history. The
ancient Greek physician Asclepiades used a form of occupational
therapy to treat patients with mental illnesses using music and
exercise. Over the centuries, however, such progressive policies
fell out of favour. World War I saw the reemergence of
occupational therapy. "A number of soldiers found themselves
unable to readjust to peacetime. They were trained in activities
like gardening and carpentry, that worked both as exercise as
well as vocational training," she adds.
Pai is the founder and director of Tamahar, an organization
dedicated to helping children with physical and mental
disabilities, and counselling their parents. She came to
Bengaluru in 1990 and has worked in many hospitals. She was
instrumental in setting up the Vydehi Institute of Rehabilitation
for Vydehi Hospital in Whitefield and in 2009 she set up Tamahar.
“A lot of the problems we see %are the result of undiagnosed
conditions among children. Parents come to us, saying that the
child is performing poorly or behaving badly or is always hungry.
Earlier, people would classify these children as mentally
retarded but now, with a proper diagnosis, we can do so much to
reclaim them," says Pai.
ET Awards 2015: Infosys Foundation
walks away with Corporate Citizen
Two entities, Infosys Science Foundation and Infosys
Foundation, USA, both of recent vintage, are driving the CSR
activities of Infosys into an esoteric yet critical realm rarely
explored by corporates — science and maths. The company
had steered its CSR initiatives through the Infosys Foundation
with its focus on traditional issues and challenges. They
continue to remain on the CSR radar, but what's galvanising
Infosys is the new thrust on evangelising science and maths
across educational, social and professional hierarchies, across
geographies. The ET Awards jury was impressed with the
'quality of its effort', coupled with the scale. In 2014-15,
Infosys spent Rs 243 crore, or around 2 per cent of its profits,
on CSR. The multifaceted approach is clearly catalysing an
ecosystem in overhauling the understanding, teaching and
research in these subjects.Over the past year, academic and
research campuses of all hues from the elite TIFR and the IITs
to simple assemblies of wideeyed school children have
attended lectures by some of the brightest minds in the world,
mostly jurors and awardees of the Infosys Prize, seeking to
inspire and attract youngsters into the scientific fold. The prize
was set up with an endowment of Rs 100 crore.
Re-educating men to help womenA unique collective called the 'Parivartan Purush Swavlambhan
Samiti' has sought to re-educate men and boys to create gender-
sensitive communities in the areas of Chhatarpur and Usmanpur
in Delhi. NGO Centre for Social Research (CSR) is working through
this platform, where each group consisting of 25 to 30 regular
members undergoes training about gender issues.“As a result,
they are fully equipped to work as community paralegals. These
men are more confident of their ability to support women in
situations of distress. CSR aims to connect with these men on a
regular basis to support them in their role as paralegals and
gather information about how they are engaging with women in
the communities,'' said CSR director Dr. Ranjana Kumari.
The CSR noted that working with men in the community mostly
involves them unlearning what they have been told all along. The
men are trained through personalised and intimate discussions.
“It needs us to undo the processes of socialisation that they have
gone through, that has made them the men they are today and re-
socialise them into informed, sensitive and responsible men who
know how to respect the women in their lives,” said Dr.
Ranjana. The training looks to changing men's attitudes towards
women in their daily interactions and equip them to act as
intermediaries with knowledge about law enforcement and
judicial institutions. “There have been many cases of crime
against women in our area. Mostly they reflect an insensitive
attitude towards women in general. We want to change that and
help women in distress,” said Abhishek Thakur, a Parivartan
Purush Swavlambhan Samiti member.
2.8 Lakh Blind, Over 150 Register as Eye DonorsOver 150 people registered themselves for eye donation in Sankara Nethralaya Hospital
at a function. Polycab, cables and wires manufacturers in India have taken this initiative
under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity. Employees of Polycab and people
from different walks of life came forward to donate their eyes on suggestion by Polycab.
According to a press release, the initiative is to promote eye donation and also raise
awareness among the people about this novel thing. There are over 2.8 lakh blind people
in Tamil Nadu, these kind of donations will give vision to many, said the organisers. After
registration, filled-in applications were submitted to Sankara Nethralaya Hospital. -

of service any time. The Dignitaries on the stage appreciated the efforts of all the abhayans. It was truly amazing to see the number
of people whose life was touched by abhaya since last 2 years in many fields...

Dr Jayaprakash Narayan IAS Retd, Founder, Lokastha Party in spite of he, feeling not well,

doing genuine work in the country by providing matching grants to them based on the
donations received from the public. Further, the donations must be provided 100%
exemption as these resources are being spent for the community benefit by the NGOs.
By the time all the dignitaries including divine guests arrived at the venue, there was huge
gathering of more than 700 people waiting. Guests lighted the lamp of love & service while
adoring the dais specially decorated for the event. Sri Ch Trinatha Rao, Former AGM - SBI

how Service can be done and with what attitude,
branding of service, supporting good work,

It is always inspiring!
There are some issues which introduce us to
an entire new world in life, abhaya is one
among them. It was one of my best
experiences to be a part of abhaya’s Annual
event. I have taken the responsibility to
coordinate with Sri. Jayaprakash Narayana
the Chief Guest, this single task itself has
fetched me great learning for life. As HH
Swamiji said, we need to focus our strengths
in serving the society and the service should
not be restricted alone to orphan care but we
need to make sure that no one becomes an
orphan further. The event was well organized and I could personally
connect many beneficiaries in the event. I have no words to express
my experiences from the event and all I can do is pray to the
Almighty to give much more strength to abhaya in moving forward.
I am happy that I am fortunate enough to be a part of abhaya and I
would assure that I will stand by abhaya in future endeavors. –
Ikkurthi Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, CR Head, CSC, Hyderabad
It was a great day for all abhayans on
11th October 2015 at the 9th Annual
Event. It was like Gods and Goddess
showering their blessings for the entire
event. It is like a History repeated
seeing Sri Meda Narasimhulu (Krutha
yugam), Sri Ramachandra Reddy
(Thretha yugam), Jayaprakash Narayan
(Dwapara yugam) and Sri Chinna Jeeyar
Swamiji (Kali yugam) gathered on one
stage at abhaya Annual Event and
further it was eye feast, seeing Yaadadri
- Bhadraadri -Venkataadri. Seeing all pervasive moon of all 4
ages in the form of Balachandra, the base of abhaya standing
like bridge between GODs and Devotees and the trustees
drawing the chariot of abhaya in serving the country men.
Dances by Rural Folks, Kolatams, Cultural performances were
like feast for eyes and mouth watering food feast for stomach
arranged by Anand made the event more glittering. The divine
Message of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji was like guiding force for
abhaya on word journey. Sri Rameswara Rao, Chairman, My
Home industries made his presence felt and we feel it was a
privilege for abhaya to have him with abhayans. The happiness
in the hearts of abhayans made us to rededicate our self for the
Mission of abhaya Foundation.Let us continue activities like this
and don’t restrict our self for few regular activities. Because
now we need to be in social media to connect many people from
different platforms. Let us go ahead together hand in hand.
Today I got feedback of our program from Bachpan School,
Regional Director and JM Financials branch head. They called
and shared their views. They saw in newspapers. Just now
received a call from Rtd DSP sriVenkatreddy, regarding this
program and inquired about 80 G. Media covered very nicely.
Hats off to abhaya. Extremely feeling great to be an abhayan. -

abhaya Home of HappinessLatest Update
Kusuma... a journey from bedridden to standing on her feet:
When she was brought to home in a stretcher, no one believed
that she would be alright and fit to lead a life of her own. Today
after 2 years of her coming and post surgical procedure at
Rajyalakshmi Hospitals... it is unbelievable fact now that she is
able to stand on her own feet with a help of walking stick. Though
there are other complications she is facing... it is really heartening
to see her transformation from nowhere to some where at abhaya
Home. She is right now the single point of contact at abhaya Home
since a long time. There is a need for further transformation in her
personality in terms of values, life skills, honesty, habits. The
team is continuously working with her. abhaya is of the opinion
that in this world no one can be changed just like that it is like
giving a rebirth! We sincerely hope that she would be a source of
inspiration for those who are in similar conditions.
Lakshmaiah (85 years), was not keeping well at home during
last month. Though we consulted Doctors at local Govt
Hospital, he was not gaining health. Hence as advised by Dr
Shulapani, MD, Rajyalakshmi Hospitals, Hyderabad we
decided to shift him to that hospital. Doctor very caringly
informed that henceforth all the inmates of abhaya Home will
be given free treatment at the Hospital. Accordingly
Lakhsmaiah was admitted in the hospital for a week or so.
Observed that there is a problem in his heart and breathing
due to old age. After observation for some time, he was
discharged with some medication. Babji, Medical assistant at
home is taking care of this old man.
Swapna (4 years) MR child whose mother expired and father
habituated to alcohol, abandoned her on roads at Hasinabad, Guntur
Dist, AP. When DrShulapani visited their village, Hasinabad, he
foundthis girl in a very bad condition. Moved by the plight of this little
girl who is left to road and not even aware of her own condition, called
on the Founder and shifted her to abhaya Home. She is now under care
of abhaya Team. Though this is very unique case to handle, we decided
to care her with maximum possible effort. We are praying GOD must
be considerate and kind in bestowing the choicest blessings on her.

Mission Shruthi – New requestWith reference from Sweekar, parents of Shruthi called
abhaya for help her. Shruthi is a 7 year girl with less
mental growth than her age. She cannot walk on her own.
They are taking treatment from Sweekar from last one
and half years. Shruthi's father works in an organization
near Cherlapalli and earns about 10 thousands a month.
They are spending about 2-3 thousands on her medicine
and rest for household expenses. Till the last month, she
was given physiotherapy at children ward, but now she need to be shifted to another
department as she turned 7. They were asked to pay Rs.4000/- per month for
physiotherapy and they were not in a position to pay that. When we speak to them, they
agreed to pay Rs.1000/- and abhaya can pay the rest. Shruthi seems almost fine and even her speech is mostly clear. We are
hoping that there will be better improvement compared other cases we dealt with. They went to their home town for festival and
will be back in the last week of this month. We request Sweekar for concession and start working on this mission once they are
back. – KSV Siva Krishna, Secretary, abahay Foundation

he met with an accident last November 2014 as unfortunately one oxygen
cylinder blasted when he is at work and both his legs were completely out of
his body. he was severely injured and by God's grace, we got good
treatment, but Doctors has to ampute both his legs as they were completely
damaged. His office Proprietor helped to the tune of 8Lakhs when he was at
hospital. Shamshuddin is the only bread winner in the family and he want to
work now. To stand on his own, he need artificial limbs, which can enable him
to start a second innings. The estimated cost for the limbs is about Rs.3
Lakhs. Considering his situation, Bionic gave a Rs.50.000/- discount. They
have pooled about Rs.25,000/- and still in need of Rs.2.25 Lakhs. As
Dr.Suresh is a long term associate of abhaya, we are considering this case to

pool 17Lakhs and need 3 more Lakhs for operation.
They approached abhaya for support and after
understanding the situation, abhaya promised them
to stand by their side and assured to give room rent
and ration for their stay at Hyderabad. Founder along
with another abhayan donated required blood for
Harish. We also tried to approach Hospital with
Reference of Dr. K Ratnakar, Director, Global Hospital
for best possible discount for this case.
We posted about this mission on our facebook page and got kind responses from round the globe. We could pool close to 1.5 Lakhs
in no time and transferred the same to hospital. Harish got lever transplant surgery on 30th October 2015 and both mother and
child are doing fine. Both of them will be under close observation of Doctors in ICU for next 10 days. abhaya wish to convey its
heartfelt gratitude to each abhayan who lend their hands of support to Mission Harish... it is yet another miracle. Waiting for the

Mission Srinivas Reddy Srinivas Reddy (28 years), an young man from Peddapuram, RR Dist suffering
from a rare disorder in his blood vessels in side head since young age. He was not
knowing it when the issue was minor, but as the days passed on there were many
lumps formed on his head which were not being cared by him and happily covered
them by heap of hairs on his head. Right now, all the lumps started bleeding
leading to pain and suffering. Doctors at NIMS suggested surgical procedures
which may cost about Rs.5,00,000/-. Lakshmi, abhaya care taker at Masab Tank
brought this case seeking help as he is the son of her elder sister. abhaya enquiring
the back ground and situation referred him to Sunshine Hospital with the help of
Dr Anilkumar Malpur. The concerned Doctors after detailed study of the issues,
suggested to have it done at NIMS only as the cost would be nominal and expert
doctors availability. Accordingly he was admitted at NIMS. Thereafter with the
help of Dr Abhijith, Century Hospitals, abhaya Volunteers met Dr Vazir at

Sailatha (MBBS)I am very much blessed to continue my journey in
this noble profession with the immense support of
abhaya. I have been posted to medicine after
surgery. It appeared to be challenging because here
we need to analyze the patient situation which are
imaginary and diagnose the disease. First time I have
seen the post-mortem, it was interesting as
knowledge could be applied to find out the manner of
death. The dead body should be examined and the
reasons mode and time of death has to be found. I have participated
actively in the divine event of Gramseva at Kalabandalapadu Village. I
have undergone Fundoscopy to my eyes in the camp. Doctor asked me
to undergo CT scan for brain and orbits, without any delay as he has
observed more blurring around the optics disc when compared to
previous time, it costs about 5000 -6000 in private diagnostic centers,
so am trying to get the examination done at Govt. Hospital, Kurnool.

Big thanks to United Way of Hyderabad and UC...
Founder had an opportunity to address thousands of High School/ Jr - Degree College / Engineering Students at a series of
sessions on Life Skills organised by Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations at Chittore/Anantapur/Hyderabad Districts in various
institutions. Founder had focused his sessions on providing insights in to careers, communication skills, life skills, community
work etc., as they play most important role in one’s life. Any individual with a greater professional achievement and a poorer
personal life cannot lead his/her life completely and similarly any person with poorer Professional life cannot lead his personal life
peacefully. All the factors of life have to be balanced appropriately. The five factors of life Personal Life, Professional Life, Family
Life, Social Life and Spiritual Life. So, any person who could juggle all these in life can lead an ideal life. This is why Founder has
stressed the importance of Life Skills and spent his value time with young communities in order to educate & inspire the students.

Founder got an interview request from NationalYouthDay.comI am Avdhesh, I got to know about abhaya Foundation during a random search on google. It is interesting to know that this
foundation was established by inspiration from the Life and mission of various personalities including Swami Vivekananda. We are
keen to share the story of Vivekananda's influence on you with the youth across the world on www.nationalyouthday.com. I am
sure many will be inspired by it. We request you for a 30 minutes telephonic conversation with us. We have created a convenient
google form with the interview questions. We request you to fill the form.
Here are some others, whose experiences have been captured by us:
*Arunima Sinha, First Female Amputee to Climb Mountain Everest.
* Babar Ali, the world's youngest headmaster, who considers Swamiji as his ideal.
* SachinSrivasta, Founder, The India Stammering Association; who says I would
have never come out of my stammering
mindset had I not known Vivekananda.
* Dr R Balu, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement
* Dr. H Sudashan, Karuna Trust
Along with my friend Varun (MIT alum), we are working on gauging the impact of Vivekanand by interviewing those who have been
influenced by Swamiji. These stories will also act as an inspiration to many others facing various challenges in life. We believe that
these many great stories are hidden in the hearts of people and not in public domain. Varun runs www.nationalyouthday.com. He
had previously produced a video on Swamiji on the website, which was viewed widely and also by the current Indian PM. We are
really keen to learn more about your experience and how you were inspired by Swamiji.
Aboutnationalyouthday.com:
National Youth Day was started by a bunch of engineering professionals coming from MIT, IIT and NSIT. The core aim of the
website is to help build resources to help the youth to better understand Vivekananda. Our earlier in this regard was a short video
on Vivekananda, which could inspire youngsters and provide them a bird’s eye view. This was based on information about
Vivekananda already in the public domain. We have now taken an initiative to uncover information not known to the public eye.
The first and probably most important project in this regard is to understand the IMPACT of Vivekananda.

connected with few NGOs who are working in the same areas and got good
inputs and feedback and few new ideas to work going forward . On the last
day of the event our Mehandi students impressed the visitors at the stall
with their nice designs.

abhaya received divine blessings of Sri Datha Sachinanda Swamiji abhaya always had the fortune of
receiving blessings of many divine
souls in the country... not just that,
every single good work turned out be a
miracle of almighty since a decade.
This time it happened on Vijaya Dasimi
Day at Mysore. Founder along with
couple of board trustees/ members (CA
BV Prasad, G Viday Sagar & K
Rangarao) happened to v is i t
Avadhutha Datha Sachinanda Petham on personal trip. But, the
focus is always on getting abhaya connected to many around. It
was in the afternoon when the team reached the abode of Sri
Datha Sachinanda Swamiji at the foot of Chamundi Hills near
Mysore on 22nd October 2015. We all heard that Swamiji is giving
Darshan at Naada Mantapa. Everyone excited to have HH
Darshan. Then realized that there is huge crowd. Founder silently
stood in the long queue waiting for HH Blessings. Ranga Rao
brought 2 fruits and kept in his hands. It was just like a miracle,
Founder got an rarest opportunity to go nearer to HH Swamiji and
instantaneously the Founder offered prayers so loudly as if someone doing it in a mike, HH Swamiji was very pleased and given
few minutes of time and Founder took that time to submit what abhaya is doing since a decade and invited HH Swamiji to bless
abhaya Home during his visit to Hyderabad. HH Swamiji while nodded HIS Head, blessed the Founder with a Special Medal of
Goddess Durga along with sandal paste. Also called Sri Narayana Rao and others from Hyderabad to make note of coordinates of
abhaya. It is truly a divine experience to record in golden letters in abhaya's journey - abhaya TEAM
