CLASS REGISTRATIONS•Registration fees must be paid in advance to ensure enrollment in the class or activity.

•Registration can be completed the first day of the class unless there is a pre-registration date listed.

•If a class is canceled, a full refund will be issued. Refunds will be issued if staff is notified prior to the 2nd day of class. A $5.00 service charge will apply.

black history talent show

Black History Talent Show is organized by the Carver Youth Council and the Recreation Division staff.

The talent show is comprised of acts including singing, dancing, poetry, and more. The theme for the 2014 show will be “Motown”, honoring the black men and women who have made an investment during the Motown era.

ZUMBAZumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness that blends international music with dance moves, martial arts, and belly dance moves. Classes begin on the 1st Monday of the month. AIKIDO Students will learn to blend with an attack to re-direct the force, use throws and joint locking techniques to neutralize an attacker. Class starts on the 1st Tuesday of each month. GUITAR LESSONSThis class is designed to teach you the art of playing guitar, including basic chords, chord progressions, ear training and much more. This class is for all levels of guitar players. BEGINNING SPANISHThis class is for individuals who want an easy and quick way to learn Spanish. It will be taught by a retired professor that has a Master’s Degree and many years of experience teaching. Class will consist of 4 weeks and start the 1st Tuesday of each month. A supply fee of $10 will be assessed to each participant. Supply fee will be collected the first day of class. Instructor: J. Narado. Class minimum is 2. Classes will be held at Rose Senior Center. DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSESAll classes are held at Cobb Recreation Center and will be taught by Stephanie DeYoung. The class

YOUTH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL LEAGUEOpen to girls ages 9 to 12. The league will be two different divisions (9-10 and 11-12). League will consist of 2 weeks of practices and 5 games followed by an end of season tournament. Cost is $45 per person, which includes team jersey, knee pads and trophy. Registration deadline is February 28.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LEAGUEOpen to women 18 and older. Cost is $300 per team. Games will start on January 23. Registration deadline is January 17.

The City of Abilene Senior Division offers Medical transportation for citizens 60 and older. The fee is donation based. Participants must be able to walk to and from the car without assistance. Stops includemedical, errands, prescriptions and more. Service is available Monday through Thursday from 9am to 1:30pm. For more information, please call 325-673-4694.

DAILY MEALA delicious and nutritious meal that exceeds 1/3 the minimum daily requirement is served Monday through Friday at all five Senior Centers from 11:30am to 12:15pm. Special or therapeutic diets are available with a physician’s order. For individuals 60 or over, or that are married to an individual 60 or over, are eligible to eat on a donation basis. The suggested donation is $2.50. Meal tickets for those under 60 are $3.50 and must be paid for at each senior center. Monthly menu is posted on our web-site at www.abilenetx.com.

TRANSPORTATIONCity of Abilene offers transportation by donation for senior citizens 60 and older. Transportation is offered to and from one of the five Senior Centers. Senior Citizens will be picked up from their home and brought to the Senior Center for activities and lunch. They will be returned home following lunch.

Twice a month, after lunch, transportation is provided to a local grocery store. City bus drivers will assist in loading and unloading your purchases. This service is free of charge, however donations are accepted. Please call 325-734-5300 to schedule transportation.

GOALThe Adaptive Recreation Services (ARS) mission is to provide specialized leisure and adaptive recreational activities for persons with disabilities.

FEE The program fee is $32 per month.

ACTIVITIESThe ARS Program offers a wide variety of activities that include Classes, Special Olympics, Dances, Free Lunch Program, Field Trips, Fitness Classes, Arts and Crafts, and more.

ELIGIBILITYParticipants must be school age, and adults that have a diagnosis of cognitive and/or physically challenged.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESARS is looking for volunteers interested in assisting individuals with disabilities in recreation programs.

MONTHLY CALENDARSARS publicizes a monthly calendar of activities for individuals with disabilities of all ages. Please call 325-676-6575 and have your name added to our mailing list.

SPECIAL OLYMPIC OPPORTUNITIESARS offers programs for Special Olympic athletes. Sports and months are as follows:
