NEWSletter – JULY/AUGUST

I am combining the July and August newsletters as I will be away late July and most of

August. I can still be reached by email if anyone would like to submit an article for the

newsletter from September onwards. I really would appreciate articles from members as it

would make the newsletter so much more interesting.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP The Woolgoolga Orchid Society is holding a free workshop on Sunday the 11th November

commencing at 9.00am and concluding at 3.30pm at Woolgoolga Public School, Yeates

Hall, 1-11 Scarborough Street, Woolgoolga. This Workshop will give you an opportunity

to meet fellow orchid growers, and also gives you an opportunity to glean some really good

knowledge from the expert speakers. You may even win some great prizes! There will be a

number of high quality speakers. You will also be able to purchase some great quality orchids

from the Nurserymen, our guest speakers. Take along 2 of your best orchid plants which will

be judged by popular vote on the day, and be in the running for a number of Mitre 10 Gift

Vouchers. The guest speakers will also be selecting a plant they think worthy of a prize.

Go along and enjoy a really exciting and informative day with a chance to mingle and

chat with many other like-minded orchid growers. Please take a picnic lunch to have on the

school grounds. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided free of charge.

TRIP TO ROZELLA NURSERY GRAFTON A trip to Rozella Nursery is being planned for Friday 24th August. Car pooling will be

organized for those wishing to go. More information at the July and August General

MONTHLY COMPETITION WINNERS JUNE 2018

DELICIOUS DATE AND GINGER CAKE

1 cup chopped dates

1 cup soft brown sugar

½ cup crystallised ginger

110 gr butter chopped

1 teaspoon bicarb soda

1½ cups S.R. flour

1 egg beaten

Pre heat oven to 180 degrees (fan forced 160) grease an 18cm round cake tin.

Put dates, sugar, ginger, butter and 1 cup water in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, then take off

the heat and add bicarb soda. Stir, then add sifted flour and egg. Mix well. Cook for about 20

minutes.
