Its unique configurations allow it to rotate 360 degrees, maximizing lateral movement and providing comfort, flexibility for the patient, and treatment efficiency to the doctor. The Liberty Bielle ® consists of an assortment of precisely engineered and manufactured components of the highest quality. These unique components increase the durability of the appliance by minimizing destructive lateral forces and allowing maximum movement of the mandible in many directions. The Liberty Bielle ® is easy to adapt to any standard bracket and tube fixed appliance system. Combined with your edgewise therapy, multiple orthodontic and orthopedic objectives can be achieved simultaneously. Liberty Bielle FixedFrequently Asked Questions

    1. What wire sizes are recommended for use with the Liberty Bielle?Liberty Bielle is intended for wires up to .022x.028. Although the appliance is recommended for .018 x.025and .022x.028, the minimum size is .016x.022.

    2. What a re the exac t slot d imensions in the fixed p ivot?Slot dimensions are 0.6 mm x 2.0 mm (0.024 x 0.087).

    3. Is the A00228 Hex Sc rew the same as RM Loc ks sold separa tely?Yes. RM Lock screws have a special tapered end design ideally suited for securing the archwire into thepivot.

    4. Once the RM Lock is fully engaged should the wire be stationary or allowed to move?If the RM Lock is engaged and tightened to the wire, it should not move. The screw should be tightened forthe tapered section to secure the wire against the back wall of the slot. Any slop in the wire is an indicationthat the taper of the screw was not tightened far enough or that the wire itself is too small.

    5. What materia l a re Liberty Bielle c omponents made of?Standard AISI 316L Stainless Steel.

    6. What forc e is p rovided to advanc e the mand ib le sinc e there is no spring? If the appliance is measured and engaged correctly, the length of the upper rod according to each patientprovides advancing force when biting down. The lower rod acts as a hard stop during normal bite position.Activation spacers can be added to further mandibular advancement (1.5 mm).

    7. How muc h advanc ement do you p lan for in the initia l setup (first month)? Per month?Individual cases should be measured to Ideal Class I position from the start. The disappearance of theposterior malocclusion indicates offset correction. At least 3 months is necessary to observe changes.

    8. Can there be any d istortion in the wire when engaged inside the p ivot and RM Loc k?If the pivots are mounted correctly parallel to the occlusal edge (horizontal) there should be no distortionin the wire.

    9. What prevents the ba ll sc rew from bec oming loose or c oming out?Theballscrewisspeciallydesignedtotaroundedholecavityontheupperandlowerrods. Thedesignis unique and allows the rods / posts to move in circular motion without loosening the screw (the ballassembly joint is what prevents the screw from coming out).

If the ball screw is tightened correctly, the rod should move with ease without loosening the screw (imagineball bone joints in the body works the same way!)

    10. What is the intended range of lateral mobility allowed by Liberty Bielle?LibertyBielleallowsfulllateralmobilityduetothebenetsofincorporatingaballjointdesignwhichminimizes destructive lateral forces found in other modern Herbst appliances. The appliance allows rangefar exceeding what the human bite construction will allow ~ 710 mm right and left (Fricton, 2004)

    11. What prevents the upper and lower rods from c oming apart on a la rge open jaw?Range of motion of the jaw is measured from occlusal edge to occlusal edge of the central incisors.Minimumnormaljawopeningisconsideredtobeabouttwongerwidthsattheknucklesofthepatientsdominant hand, or approximately 40 mm (1.57) (Fricton, 2004).

Under recommended mounting procedures, upper and lower rod lengths are more than enough toaccommodate the estimated 1.70 total extension from pivottopivot on a typical open jaw, if measured andcut correctly.

    12. Are the RM Loc k sc rews tightened from the oc c lusa l for both upper and lower?Yes. The hex screws should be tightened from the occlusal to allow access by the hex wrench.
