A B O U T T H E P R O G R A M

The Florida International University (FIU) HealthCare Network, which manages the clinical practice of FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine faculty, has established a graduate certifi cate program to provide clinical clerkship training to qualifi ed third-year medical students from American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine.

The program, a collaboration between AUA and FIU, o� ers students clinical clerkships involving medical preceptorship and hospital experience in six disciplines: family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery.

Students work with experienced physicians who mentor through personal instruction, training, and supervision of patients’ clinical care. Supervising faculty members are licensed in their respective specialties.

Student competency and performance are evaluated at the bedside, in the clinical setting, and through the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) shelf examinations.

Upon successfully completing the program, students receive a Certifi cation of Completion, an o� cial transcript, and performance evaluations from FIU.

Students participating in the program remain AUA students and upon graduation will receive their MD degree from AUA.

Students rotate through six clinical disciplines:

Clerkships take place at FIU-HWCOM a� liated clinical sites under the supervision of FIU-designated faculty.
