    ABOUT JSW FOUNDATION

    An independent Trust, named JSW Foundation, administers the social development

    initiatives of the JSW group. Mrs. Sangita Jindal chairs the Foundation. Every year,the Foundation in consultation with plant managements and CSR teams at the

    plants, finalizes a set of activities that get built into the business plan. The

    Foundation lays emphasis on maintaining a continuum of social development

    thinking into the conduct of these activities

    Sangita Jindal's Profile

    Sangita Jindal is the founder and chairperson of Jindal South West Foundation.She heads the Jindal Arts Creative Interaction Centre and Arts India magazine.She is also the chairperson of the Hampi Foundation. Sangita is responsible forrevamping the J. J. School of Art in Mumbai. She is married to Sajjan Jindal, vice

    chairman and managing director of Jindal South West (JSW) Steel.

    CSR Initiatives

    The JSW group fulfils its social development responsibilitythrough activities that are undertaken through four public

    charitable trusts, viz. Jindal South West Foundation, Hampi Foundation, a HealFoundation and Friends of the Sir J J School of Arts Trust. These Trusts annually

    consult with the Management and other company's personnel to identify the listof activities that are subsequently incorporated into the JSW Group's businessplans.

    The corporate social initiatives undertaken are in the areas of communitydevelopment, environment, sports and arts and culture. The CSR initiatives ofthe group are led by Mrs. Sangita Jindal. In 2007-2008, the Mumbai Corporateoffice was strengthened with the appointment of full time staff. An advisoryboard has also been created to suggest programmes and strategies tomainstream for JSW CSR initiatives. Management has approved an allocation of1.5% of profit after tax for CSR operational expenses for 2008-2009.

    Sustainability

    JSW cherishes people and believes in inclusive growth to facilitate creation of avalue based and empowered society through continuous and purposefulengagement of all partners in the development process.

    JSW would strive to achieve sustainable development in all spheres of life includingeducation, health and livelihood, promotion of arts and culture, environmentprotection, and sports.

    Education

    The Foundation's endeavor is to sensitize the need for education among regularand contract employees' children by establishing schools at the Company's vicinity.

    At the same time ensuring that we create an exciting and attractive learningprocess for the children in the surrounding village schools.

    The Foundation also takes care to build and infuse confidence among schooldropouts encouraging them to join back. The Foundation also plays a pivotalparental role' through individual monitoring the first generation learners. Besidesexploring and nurturing local rural talents, it regularly demonstrates innovativeteaching methods at neighboring government-run schools with an aim to improvelearning standards.

    Health

    The Foundation provides door-to-door medical care by conducting regular generalhealth check-ups. It also conducts specialized healthcare for the elderly byconducting cataract screening and performing free surgeries. This apart, it holdsroutine STI/RTI check-up camps to identify potential HIV cases to prevent thespread of HIV/AIDS cases at the same time enhancing rural awareness of thedreaded scourge.

    Livelihood

    To create livelihoods for rural women by providing revolving fund, skill training andother linkage services to empower rural women to reduce gender-baseddiscrimination.

    Sports

    To encourage rural sports the JSW Foundation has formed the Jindal SquashAcademy, Jindal Badminton Academy, Jindal Swimming Academy and Jindal table

    Tennis Academy. These academies provide necessary trainings and students haveattained national-level success in many events.

    Environment

    To create an environmental friendly environ, the Foundation builds model villagesby developing rural infrastructure complete with roads and drainage system. Toimprove living standards, it creates sanitary facilities for providing effective

    disposal of solid waste. The Foundation also sensitizes rural eco-friendlinessthrough enhanced tree planting.

    The Foundation builds libraries and has also build an art centre for acceleratingrural socio-cultural development. To create garbage-free villages, the Foundationsets up garbage management units using proper garbage handling mechanism. Ittakes utmost care to create rural awareness on the importance of hygiene and thecrucial role people can play to make that a reality. To minimize waste produced theFoundation has introduced scientific recycling and reusing technologies.

    Arts, Culture & Heritage

    Heritage conservation

    JSW Foundation is involved in preservation, conservation and restoration ofHeritage buildings. In 2004, JSW Foundation facilitated the creation of the Friendsof Sir J. J. School of Arts Trust that restored the exterior of the Fine Arts building.

    The resources were mobilized from the Member of Parliament Local AreaDevelopment (MPLAD) fund. At the Sir J. J. School of Art in Mumbai, following amajor exterior restoration initiative, the Foundation is presently documenting andrestoring invaluable collection of paintings and sculptures (dating back to 1878)and establishing an art museum at the campus. After six long years of negotiation,the Maharashtra government has finally permitted JSWF to document and conservethe priceless artifacts, restore the interiors of the fine arts building, and, convert

    the bungalow called the Dean bungalow, into an arts museum.

    ART India Magazine

    JSW also promotes a quarterly publication 'Art India' which is a special vehicledesigned to promote debate and discuss on Art. This magazine has beenrecognized by the New York Times as the only serious art magazine in the region.

    A quarterly publication for ART India provides a forum of artists, art lovers and thebusiness community to be in touch with one another.

    The Foundation is establishing a craft village to encourage local artisans and

    craftsman practice and exhibit their crafts.

    The group promotes regular training and orientation to budding performanceartists, and through residences, facilitates their performance before artconnoisseurs.

    Jindal Art Center

    Mrs. Sangita Jindal on the invitation of the National Centre for the Performing Arts,established the JSW Foundation's cultural wing, the Jindal Arts Centre (JAC) in 1994.Mrs. Sangita Jindal is the Honorary Director of the Jindal Arts Centre (JAC).

    The Jindal Arts Centre functions as an independent body under the auspices of theNCPA that provides a platform for a wide range of activities encompassing thevarious art forms. Since its inception, the centre, with its inter-disciplinary profileand many pronged approach, has achieved several of its long term objectiveswithin a short span of time.

    The main objectives of the Jindal Art Centre are:

    To encourage creative interaction between the arts and artistsTo organize film premieres that promote social changeTo promote art through a series of workshopsTo conduct awareness programmes in Art for the public to enhance creativityTo beautify city spaces through Art in Public Places' schemeTo generate awareness for Climate change and social issues by organizingdebates, panel discussions, etc.

    The events held by JAC are popular and the response from the art lovers isimpressive. Some of the main events are listed below:
