The National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST) was established in the year 1996 by a group of academiciansand technocrats educated in the top Institutes of India & abroad. NIST is promoted by SM Charitable EducationalTrust. It is the first NRI educational venture in the state of Odisha and the first engineering college under BerhampurUniversity. The Institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE under MHRD, Govt ofIndia), is affiliated to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). The Institute has been conferred theAutonomous Status by UGC, New Delhi and Govt. of Odisha. The primary objective of the founders is to promoteNIST as a center of academic excellence and research in the field of science and technology in the state ofOdisha.
