SPEECH ABSTRACT Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered … Why Messages Fail to Connect and Stick “Give thee the spirit of persuasion that what thou speakest may move and what he hears may be believ’d.” Sir John Falstaff (Henry IV Pt. I) The amount of information available in our society has grown exponentially in just the last decade. Yet many people are overwhelmed with the quantity of this information, and underwhelmed by its usefulness, leaving them feeling “bewitched, bothered, and bewildered” (as in the song from the Rogers & Hart musical, Pal Joey). In this chaos, we are all skirmishing for “shelf space” in the marketplace of ideas. Why do some messages resonate and “stick” with us, while others quickly vanish? Based partly on the work of the bestselling authors of Made To Stick, along with Steve Pappaterra’s diverse experience in law, executive leadership, client development, academia, and professional theater, audiences will (i) discover the six elements crucial to getting their message heard and acted upon; (ii) learn how to leverage their identity for maximum impact and influence; and (iii) employ techniques drawn from other disciplines, such as theater and music. An attorney and professional speaker, Steve Pappaterra is senior vice president and managing director of Wealth Planning for one of the country’s premier trust and investment firms. He has responsibility for more than more than 80 wealth planners (nearly all of whom are attorneys, CPAs, or certified financial planners (CFPs ® ), as well as the overall delivery of financial planning advice across the organization. A frequent lecturer, Steve has published extensively on estate planning, retirement, philanthropy, and communication. In addition, he has appeared on CNBC and Fox Business News (National) and been quoted in US News & World Report, USA Today, Fortune, Forbes.com, and Town & Country, among others. Having the skill to communicate ideas that connect and resonate has never been more important. This is especially true for those who must communicate highly technical subject matter. Thought-provoking, authoritative, and highly interactive, attendees can be certain that the content for this session will be “Anything But Obvious”… and the presentation “Anything But Dull.” Program Length: 45-60 minutes

“Give thee the spirit of persuasion that what thou speakest may move and what he hears may be believ’d.”Sir John Falstaff (Henry IV Pt. I)

The amount of information available in our society has grown exponentially in just the last decade. Yet many people are overwhelmed with the quantity of this information, and underwhelmed by its usefulness, leaving them feeling “bewitched, bothered, and bewildered” (as in the song from the Rogers & Hart musical, Pal Joey).
