CeramicsIn the Ceramics program, students

work with traditional and experimental

approaches to the medium through

course work that engages the processes,

concepts, technologies and aesthetic

issues that constitute contemporary

ceramics practices.

Ceramics students will experience learning

to throw on the wheel, to hand build and

make molds, to work experimentally with

cross-media and to fire kilns. Course work

also emphasizes the research and study

of ceramic clay and glaze materials.

Ceramics students take a specialized

Ceramics History course in addition to

Liberal Studies courses to broaden their

understanding of historical and contemporary

visual culture. All of the faculty, including

international visiting artists are practicing

and professional artists and, each term,

guest artists give specialized workshops

and presentations complementing the

many department activities and conferences

that Ceramics students participate

in throughout the year.
