Bursaries are granted on the basis of financial need and involvement in the College. Applications are required and available online. The submission deadline is last Friday in September. Bursary recipients are informed by letter usually in December. Financial Need: Bursaries are granted on the basis of financial need to full-time students registered as a St. Paul’s College member for the current session. Full-time students are those registered for at least 60% of a full course load, or 18 credit hours in a program or year. Need represents 50% of the criteria in choosing bursary recipients. Other factors are considered such as special circumstances and involvement in social, spiritual, and student events at the College or their community. In the case of newly admitted students, these are also factors in determining who receives a bursary. GPA: Although bursaries are awarded on the basis of need, a GPA of 2.50 in the previous fall/winter session or a C+ average is required for eligibility. Applications: Complete a St. Paul’s College bursary and a Manitoba student financial assistance application: www.studentaid.gov.mb.ca. In order to be eligible, a student does not need to accept a student loan. If a student is not a Canadian citizen, he/she needs to provide a detailed budget (available online) for the academic year, including all expenses and income. If a student is from another province, a copy of his/her loan assessment from his/her province is required. Acceptance: Within 15 days of notification, the recipient must provide a letter of acceptance to the Dean of Studies, otherwise the award will be conferred on another candidate. Deferral & Ineligibility: Bursaries may not be deferred, unless approved by the Dean of Studies in writing. Students may be declared ineligible, if their academic circumstances change and they are no longer eligible for the bursary. Additional awards presented during the St. Paul’s Day Academic Awards Ceremony (January), Baccalaureate Ceremony (April), or Opening Ceremonies (September). Campus Ministry Community Service Award Students active in St. Paul’s College Campus Ministry are considered for this award. Class Valedictorian A graduating student is chosen in April to prepare and present a speech to graduands/graduates during the Baccalaureate Ceremony. Paulinian of the Year Award Criteria for selection includes academic excellence, participation in extracurricular activities, and service to others. Application/nomination form is available online and must be submitted by April 1. TJ Rice Scholarship Voted by teachers and staff annually, this scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who personifies, demonstrates, lives, and adopts these values most. *Military and Hospitaller of St. Lazaurus of Jerusalem Ecumenical Scholarship Undergraduate student members of St. Paul’s College successfully completing the intoduction to Catholic Studies are eligible for this award . MAmbers achieving the highest marks on an essay wil have their paper submitted by the instructor to the Dean of Studies. for review.

EligibilityUndergraduate student members of St. Paul’s College are automatically considered for academic awards the College gives each year. For scholarships denoted with a * students must complete an application form. Most of the awards are based on merit, and are presented during the Opening Academic Exercises (September) or St. Paul’s Day Academic Awards Exercises (January). $78,000 in scholarships and prizes are available annually.

When considering courses for the upcoming year, students are encouraged to review the academic disciplines in which awards are given. Applications are available online: umanitoba.ca/colleges/st_pauls. Please download, complete, print and submit the application by mail or drop it off at the General Office (Room 209). Students who have not registered as a St. Paul’s College member may still apply but must become a member before classes begin in September. Registration details are available online, or students can log in to their Aurora account and declare their College membership.

Entrance ScholarshipsFor All High School StudentsThe following entrance scholarships are available to St. Paul’s College members starting their first year of studies as full-time students at the University of Manitoba:

• The Jesuit Entrance Scholarship

• The Larry and Leta Lee Entrance Scholarship

Only one application is required; the deadline is the last Friday in July.

For Catholic High School StudentsEach June, Catholic high schools select recipients for entrance scholarships. Our Dean of Studies or delegate presents these scholarships during the graduation ceremonies.

This scholarships for a graduating student member of St. Paul’s College enrolled at the University of Manitoba who has contributed significantly to the life of the College, and has been accepted into a graduate (either Masters or Doctoral) program at a recognized University.

• TheMartinKavanagh-LaVérendryeFellowshipThis award is to provide student members of St. Paul’s College who are enrolled in a University of Manitoba graduate studies program with an annual prize for research relating to the legacy of La Vérendrye. Application is available online and must be submitted by March 10th.

• TheBobandMarniePuchniakFamlyGraduateScholarshipThis award is to provide a scholarship for a graduate (PhD or Masters) student member of St. Paul’s College who is enrolled in the Peace and Conflict Studies program at the University of Manitoba.

• The Wyrzykowski Family Scholarship These scholarships are valued at $5,000 each and are for full-time, undergraduate student members of St. Paul’s College who have completed at least three credit hours of the Catholic Studies minor in the Faculty of Arts, and have completed an accredited travel-study program or service-learning program recognized by St. Paul’s College or courses (in Judaic Studies, Religious Studies, or Anthropology) that involved field research connected to NEBAL. Application is available online and must be submitted by September 30th.
