Direct Criteria for Success 1.1a Eighty-percent of students enrolled in RET 3493 (Fall 2013) and in RET 4616 (Spring 2014) will demonstrate proficiency in verbal and nonverbal communication skills by receiving a communication skill level rating of at least 3.5 on a 5 point Likert scale.

Indirect Measure(s) 1.1b Clinical Preceptors will assess verbal and non-verbal communication skills of students by using a Clinical Summative Evaluation Survey in RET 4886.

Direct Criteria for Success 75% of students will demonstrate proficiency in communication skills, both oral and written.

Indirect Measure(s) 75% of graduating seniors will identify improvement in communication skills in exit survey by director.

Indirect Criteria for Success 75% of students graduating will state through a survey that they improved their communication skills.

Outcome 2: Critical Thinking Skills: Students will demonstrate the ability to critically think, analyze, and problem solve.

Direct Measure(s) 75% of students will receive a grade of "B" or better in HSA 4700.

Direct Criteria for Success 75% or more of students will demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills by receiving a "B" or better on the midterm examination in HSA 4700.

Indirect Measure(s) 75% or more of selected students for focus group will rate themselves as fair or better using critical thinking or problem solving skills as rated in self-assessment survey during graduation audit by director.

Outcome 3: Specific Content Knowledge: Students will demonstrate an understanding of knowledge, concepts and skills related to the delivery of healthcare.

Direct Measure(s) 75% of students will earn a "B" or better in HSA 3110.

Direct Criteria for Success 75% of students will earn a "B" or better in HSA 3110. This class is an entry level organization and administration course on health care facilities and organizations.

Indirect Measure(s) 75% or more of students will state in focused interview that they can describe what occupational therapy to community members at community events is.

Outcome 4: Technology Proficiency: Students will demonstrate proficiency in the use of various technologies for research, statistics, presentation, and documentation.

Direct Measure(s) 90% of students will successfully obtain peer-reviewed literature from an external data base for HSA 3110 or HSA 4700 as evidenced in a research paper assignment.

Direct Criteria for Success 90% of students will demonstrate the ability to utilize external database sites and resources for evidence-based practice.

Indirect Measure(s) All students will demonstrate proficiency in procuring information from web-based sites and library data bases as rated by a select focus group of students who were enrolled in HSA 4700.

Indirect Criteria for Success All students will demonstrate proficiency in utilizing blackboard in course work.

Outcome 5: CULTURAL COMPETENCE Students will demonstrate the ability to integrate and transform knowledge about individuals and groups of people into practices and attitudes that facilitate effective delivery of occupational therapy services within a variety of contexts.

Direct Measure(s) All of students will utilize person centered language in their documentation in RCS 3700 or HSA 4060. Person centered language is demonstrated by describing a person first, not their disability. Example would be “Mr. Smith a 45 year old carpenter, married, with two children, injured his lower back at a work site".

Direct Criteria for Success All students will demonstrate respect for diversity by utilizing person centered language in fundamental health science courses and assignments.

Indirect Measure(s) All of students will demonstrate respect for diversity as demonstrated by focused student interviews about cultural diversity.

Indirect Criteria for Success All students will demonstrate respect for cultural diversity in community activities.
