INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-2020 NEWSLETTER VOLUME-I INDIAN SCHOOL ATHLETES SHINE AT OMAN SCHOOL OLYMPIC DAY A contingent of four athletes, represented Indian School Salalah in ‘The Oman School Olympic Day, an annual interschool sports event under the aegis of the Oman Sports Association, was organized at Bawhar Stadium in Muscat from 30th March to 3rd April, 2019. They competed in two events- long jump and badminton. The girls’ events were held from 30th March to 1st April, while for the boys it was scheduled from 1st to 3rd April. Nicole Sarah Ernest of Class VIII bagged a gold medal in long jump and in badminton, Maitreyi Jagannathan of Class IX reached the quarter finals. In the boys category, Mohd. Aziz.Islam of Class IX had to be satisfied with sixth position in long jump, whereas Mohd. Fadi Shabeer of class IX clinched the bronze medal in badminton. INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH STUDENTS EXCEL IN HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR COMPETITION Master Aryan Debhashish Bhatacharya and Master Afsal Thajuddin of Indian School Salalah, secured the third position in the First High School Science Fair Competition on 8th April 2019 organised by the Department of Mathematics and Science, Dhofar University, Salalah. They presented the ‘Central Angle theorem’ with the help of a working model. Nine schools from Dhofar region participated in the event. The Competition gave an exposure and experience to the young Mathematicians to enhance their scientific talent and research caliber. INDIAN SCHOOL ATHLETES

SHINE AT OMAN SCHOOL

OLYMPIC DAY

A contingent of four athletes,

represented Indian School Salalah

in ‘The Oman School Olympic Day,

an annual interschool sports event

under the aegis of the Oman Sports

Association, was organized at

University, Salalah. They

presented the ‘Central Angle

theorem’ with the help of a

working model. Nine schools from

Dhofar region participated in the

event. The Competition gave an

exposure and experience to the

young Mathematicians to enhance

their scientific talent and research

caliber.

conducted in 2 rounds competing

with more than 1500 teams from

20 Indian schools in the sultanate.

The first round was held on 5th

April for both- the seniors and

juniors. The top 10 teams were

selected in the first round and

went to compete the second round

held on 6th April. Savio

Xavier and Abhinav Sunil

Prasad from Juniors and Darin

Carvalho and Naman Verma from

senior got qualified as one of the

top 8 teams for the finals held on

Friday.

In the final Darin Carvalho and

Naman Verma secured the third

position bringing laurels to Indian

School Salalah.

PROJECT PRESENTED BY THE

STUDENTS OF INDIAN SCHOOL

SALALAH GETS RECOGNITION

IN THE STEMS EXHIBITION

The Ministry of Education for

Private Schools and Colleges

organized the National Week of

Science, Technology, Engineering

and Mathematics (STEM) from

10th to 14th March 2019 at Sultan

Qaboos Complex, Salalah. Students

of the various Private schools and

Colleges were invited to take part

in the Exhibition with their

Innovations.

Four students of IS Salalah-Class XII

Science Stream took part in it

where they presented a project

which focused on “Constructions

and Prevention of various damages

due to the earth quakes” using the

principle of Resonance. It was a

proud moment for Indian School

Salalah, as the project presented

by the School Team was declared

as one of the best projects of the

year 2019 and the students were

awarded the Merit certificates. The

proud winners of the team were

MihirRawat, Aibhinav Upadhyay,

Saketh Ganapathy and Aryan Patel.

MAKES ITS MARK IN THE

ONLINE ESSAY COMPETITION

Among the 12 students selected

for an online essay competition, 5

students of Indian School Salalah

made their mark in the

competition based on the life and

philosophy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,

jointly conducted by Indian

Embassy Oman and Dr. Ambedkar

International Mission Oman in

February 2019 on the occasion of

128th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R.

Ambedkar for Indian Schools in

Oman.

Manivannan emerged as winners

and were invited by the Indian

Embassy, Muscat to be felicitated

by His Excellency, the Ambassador

of India on the 14th of April,

2019.The school authorities and

the Management congratulated

the students for achieving this feat.

EXCELS IN THE INTERNATIONAL

CHEMISTRY QUIZ

Indian School Salalah made its

mark in the international chemistry

quiz conducted by Royal Australian

Chemical Institute, Australia in the

month of October. Students from

different countries such as

Australia, New Zealand, China,

Germany, Austria, Sri Lanka,

Malaysia, Philippines, Kuwait,

Qatar, Oman, UAE, Singapore,

Thailand, India, Brunei, Vietnam,

Fiji and PNG had participated. 51

students from our school had

participated out of which 8

students got certificate of high

distinction and one student was

awarded certificate of high

distinction excellence. 12 of the

participating students were

awarded with Certificate of

Distinction while 4 were awarded

with Certificate of Credit.

The students who were awarded

with certificate of high distinction

are Bhavana Ramanathan Of Class

8, Abhinav Sunil Prasad Of Class 8,

Savio Xavier of Class 9, Aditya

Kumar Singh of Class 9, Omiya

Chowdhury of Class 10, Jatin Soni

of Class 10, Aadesh Anil Agte of

Class 11 and Aibhinav Upadayay of

Class 12. They received a medal,

certificate of high distinction and

ANCQ badge. Master Saurabh

Singh was awarded certificate of

high distinction excellence. He was

awarded with Plaque along with

RACI lapel pin. The school

authorities and management

congratulated the students for this

wonderful achievement.

PARTICITPATED IN OMAN

NETACAD STUDENT DAY 2019

Twenty seven students of class XII

computer science along with the

computer faculty Mrs. Anita Rose

participated in the seminar

conducted by the Networking &

Information Security section of

Salalah Technical College in

association with CISCO,

Networking Academy on 24th April

2019. The welcome speech was

given by Mr. Jonathan, Head of

Networking and Information

Section. He informed about how

the Oman Government wants the

students to participate in Robotics

and other Information Technology

aspects and gave a brief

introduction about CISCO.

The seminar gave an idea about

CISCO and their activities,

emerging technology trends and

also about how python

programming can be used to write

programmes to control various

devices. Our students participated

in the interactive session that was

conducted at the end of the day

which was well participated by

Mast. Aryan, Mast. Jis Kaviyil Jose,

Mast Saketh and faculty Mrs. Anita

Rose.

COMMERCE CLUB ACTIVITIES

INAUGURATED AT INDIAN

SCHOOL SALALAH

The Commerce Club of Indian

School Salalah organized the

inaugural function to mark the

beginning of its activities for the

academic session 2019-20 in the

school auditorium during school

hours on Thursday, April 25, 2019.

The function commenced with the

welcome speech followed by the

appreciation certificates to the class

11th toppers (Commerce) of

academic session 2018-2019.

Dr. S. Srinivasan then formally

inaugurated the Commerce Club

activities of the current academic

session. He, while doing so,

addressed the students and threw

light on the diverse options

available to them after 12th in

Commerce. A brief talk on the

career options available in

Commerce after 12 board

examinations was presented by

Miss Haya Fayaz. The skit

‘Commerce-Lifeblood of the

world’ was the highlight of the

activities presented.

It was announced that the

Commerce Club will be arranging

tuck shops, exhibitions, debates,

industrial visits, seminars,

interschool competitions etc. to

give the commerce students

opportunities to explore their best

during the session 2019-20.

who addressed the gathering was

happy to see the way Commerce

Department has shown its presence

with more activities.

Dr. Shivaprasad, VP Academics

who, while talking about the

wealth, value and opportunities in

Commerce, urged students to be

their own bosses in the future and

have the inner motivation and

passion for others to give them

opportunities.

The programme was well

coordinated by Mr. Vipindas,

HOD, Commerce and the faculties.

The inaugural function concluded

with a vote of thanks by Mast.

Abdullah Syed.

INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

CONDUCTS ANNUAL FIRE

SAFETY DRILL

Indian School Salalah conducted

the Annual Fire Safety Drill on 25th

April 2019 during school hours.

This mock drill is carried out every

year to refine the evacuation plan

and to ensure that everyone in the

school is prepared for an

emergency. To familiarize the

newly appointed staff with the

evacuation steps to be taken during

a fire, a session on fire mock drill,

followed by its presentation was

organized by Mr. Mohandas,

Faculty Physical Education and Mr.

Mahesh, Health and Safety Officer

in the auditorium. A well planned

fire mock drill was executed at

10:45 am on Thursday, 25th April

2019. The teachers guided the

students along the nearest

evacuation route to the assembly

point. The emergency squad

ensured that no student or staff was

trapped in the building and thus, the

time required for the complete

evacuation of the school was

recorded as 4 minutes 17 seconds.

The Annual Fire Safety Drill, thus,

certifies the safety of all the

students and staff of Indian School

Salalah through the well planned

evacuation procedure.
