AAP Constitution and Bylaws revised
In 1 991, the AAP Executive Committee appointed an ad hoc com-mittee to revise the Academy's Constitution and Bylaws. This wasneeded to evaluate a number of previously suggested changes, and to develop an organized and cohesive process for amendingthe governing documentcs.
There are a number of minor changes, most of which clarify andsimplify the language and organization of the bylaws.
There are several significant changes that AAP leaders parffcularlywish to bring to your attention:
1. Eliminating the Undesignated Specialty Fellow category of mem-bership.
2. Eliminating the Associate Member category of membership.
3.. Establishing a new category of membership of Post-ResidencyTraining Fellows.
4. Requiring written criteria for Section membership and makingthe terms of office on Section Executive Committees consistentwith those of national committees.
5. Clarifying the nomination and approval process for Committeemembership.
6. Editing the Bylaws to be gender-neutral.
7. Some changes, suggested by legal counsel, ensure that theAcademy complies with current federal and Illinois state regulations. These pertain to procedures regarding admission to and expulsionfrom membership, and in delineating the privileges of each categoryof membership.
If you have any questions about the changes, contact: AAP Depart-ment of Membe'rship, 141 Northwest Point Blvd., PO Box 927,Elk Grove Village, IL 60009-0927; (800) 433-9016, ext. 6772.
