The different pathsto HANAOrganizations are taking different routes toimplementation and driving business valuefrom HANA. These range from the tactical,addressing a single business process in order tounderstand HANA’s potential at relatively lowrisk, through to a full-scale transformation ofend-to-end ERP systems on the HANA platformThe ability to tailor HANA to meet a specific

business goal, or to introduce its powerfulcapabilities to accelerate and improve a singlebusiness process means that organizations areable to adapt their own approach according totheir precise needs. There is no single right orwrong path to HANA adoption. It’s possible todrive several initiatives with specific businessgoals at the same time.

Accenture’s approach is flexible. We are workinwith clients on three main approaches. Thefirst, HANA Business Applications (HBA) brintogether Accenture’s assets implemented onSAP HANA technology to address a specificbusiness challenge. Packaged as a completesolution, i.e. hardware, software and services,HBA can be offered on premises or as a cloud-based solution. HBA offers a solution to aspecific business need, and each is created fora specific industry. Leveraging insights from thHANA Research Council, HBA offers a low-risimplementation that enables organizations togauge the power of HANA to achieve a specificbusiness goal.

Our second approach, HANA BusinessaXeleration (HBX) makes use of the HANAarchitecture to accelerate the performance ofone or more business processes. These are runin a separate system, offering an opportunityto harness the advantage of HANA withoutrequiring fundamental change to existingsystems. This can act as a means to build thebusiness case for a wider implementation, atminimal risk.

HANA Business Transformation (HBT) is the

third approach. It’s a full-scale move to BusinessSuite on HANA technology. It involves acomplete application and technology refresh andtransformation of existing business processes.It provides the opportunity to consolidate andrenovate existing SAP implementations offeringthe power of the platform broadly across thewhole enterprise. In addition, Accenture hasdeveloped industry specific templates (AccentureAdvanced Enterprise Systems) that can drive evenhigher performance in specific industry contexts.It is the most ambitious approach but as SAPcontinues to invest in HANA, it will become the

future platform for the entire SAP business suite.But as awareness of HANA develops over time, itwill generate the most traction and highest levelsof adoption.

HANA is the way of the future for SAP. But thefuture is happening now. Organizations arebeginning to explore how they can implementHANA and drive value across their organization.

Accenture sees a distinct adoption curvedeveloping (see figure below). Initially weexpect to see businesses making select useof HANA to improve one or more distinctbusiness processes (HBX). As the benefits ofthose implementations become increasinglyapparent, we envision a broader move to moretransformational adoption (HBT), with HANA

driving end-to-end business processes anddelivering high performance across enterprisefunctions. In parallel with this, we would alsoexpect to see the use of HANA deployed as adiscrete managed service (HBA), addressingparticular business challenges designedexpressly for specific industry contexts.
