A meeting of the Mississippi Mills Accessibility Advisory Committee was held on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Municipal Office. PRESENT: Committee: Councillor McCubbin, Chair Myrna Blair

Staff/Others: Shawna Stone, Clerk Steve Stirling, Planner George Yaremchuk, Active Transportation Advisory Committee Regrets: Paul Crozier Councillor McCubbin called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. A. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Araina Clark Seconded by Myrna Blair

THAT the agenda be accepted as amended with the addition of H3. CARRIED

B. DISCLOSURE OF PECUNIARY INTEREST

None were declared.

C. DELEGATIONS/PRESENTATIONS/TOURS Active transportation and accessibility considerations - George Yaremchuk, Active Transportation (AT) Advisory Committee

Mr. Yaremchuk discussed the work of the AT Committee and areas of overlap with accessibility. With respect to trails, the AT Committee has been examining the trail through Gemmill Park and possible uses of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail. He suggested that the committees continue to exchange information and collaborate on matters of mutual interest.

D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Moved by Jim Lowry Seconded by Myrna Blair

THAT the minutes dated June 8, 2016 be approved as presented.

F. ROUND TABLE Clerk – Final plan for Mill Run Park to come forward to next meeting for review. Councillor McCubbin – AT Committee did a walking tour of Pakenham on September 26th, identified a need for safe crossing at County Road 29 and Waba Road. Betty – over the summer did a walking tour of Gemmill Park and Riverfront Park. Araina – attended open house for downtown revitalization project, noted that there will be no change in grade of Mill Street. She suggested installation of benches with arms and pedestrian only days.

G. REPORTS 1. Site Plan Mississippi Mills Animal Hospital The Planner provided an overview of the site plan, landscaping plan, and floor plan. He stated that the hospital is being built at-grade, with depressed curbs, and one accessible parking space. The Committee recommended an additional accessible parking space and some benches out front.

H. INFORMATION/CORRESPONDENCE

1. Guide to Accessible Festivals & Outdoor Events - 2016 Updates – Accessibility Directorate of Ontario Received for information. The Clerk advised that the guide was provided to the Recreation Manager and the Community Economic and Cultural Coordinator for consideration when planning festivals and events. 2. Changes to Accessible Customer Service Standard July 1, 2016

– Accessibility Directorate of Ontario Received for information. The main changes are aimed at smaller private sector and non-profit organizations previously not subject to the Integrated Accessibility Standards. 3. What does an accessible Canada mean to you? - Government of Canada The Clerk advised that posters regarding the consultation process were distributed and will be displayed in all municipal facilities. People are able to participate online or in-person – in-person session to be held November 30, 2016 from 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm at the Canadian War Museum, 1 Vimy Place, Ottawa. Consultation process to run until February 28, 2017.

I. OTHER/NEW BUSINESS

1. Possible uses of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) The Committee discussed possible uses of the trail. There was consensus that the trail should be limited to non-motorized uses within urban areas, and that the County should hold public meetings with respect to uses of the trail. Moved by Araina Clark Seconded by Betty Preston THAT the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail be limited to only non-motorized uses within urban and settlements areas.

CARRIED Moved by Jim Lowry Seconded by Araina Clark THAT the County commits to hold public consultation regarding the uses of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail.

CARRIED
