Section 1 - Welcome to Tortuga Music Festival 2017

Rock The Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival on historic Fort Lauderdale Beach brings together some of biggest names in country, rock, and roots music, all for a great cause.

We appreciate our fans and want to give all music lovers an opportunity to enjoy!

By attending Tortuga Music Festival you are benefitting the Rock The Ocean Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting scientific research, education, and ocean conservation initiatives while working to increase public awareness about the

issues impacting the world’s oceans. For more info about RTO: www.rocktheocean.com

We hope that this document will help you to plan ahead so you may have the best possible experience while at Tortuga.

We want everyone to be safe and have an enjoyable time while visiting the festival. Accessibility is very important to us. Everyone is welcome! We expect large crowds of 20,000 to 25,000 music fans each day on the beach at Tortuga. Like most large music festivals, the loud, crowded atmosphere can be a bit overwhelming to navigate. Our ADA Accessibility team is here to help you have a great time at Tortuga. Stop by the ADA Access Center, just next to the Information Booth and introduce yourself. We’re here to help!

If you need assistance at any time during the festival, please visit the ADA Access Center. You may also look for signs with the International Symbol of Access (wheelchair symbol)

at the main entrance and throughout the festival venue to help direct you to accessible entrances, pathways, and info.

We are continually striving for ways in which we may improve our services, and we welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions. Please contact us for further information about any of the services we offer by writing to us at [email protected] at any time.

Your feedback is always very important to us. Please take a moment during the festival to share your comments with us. Help us evaluate our accessibility program. Take one of our quick guest satisfaction surveys for your chance to win a Tortuga prize package!

We are excited you will be joining us at Tortuga and look forward to meeting you.

Section 2 - About The Festival Site

The festival is located at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park, a sunny oceanside site that offers cool sea breezes and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. A paved midway spans the length of the beach. Terrain at the park varies but is mostly a mix of flat pavement and lots of sand. There are some natural shade trees at the park offering cool spots to rest, and wheelchair accessible picnic tables are available in several places along the paved boardwalk to enjoy the delicious food and beverage options. We want you to enjoy your experience while at Tortuga. Please be prepared for long distances and large crowds.

We have worked closely with the City of Fort Lauderdale to ensure the site is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The beach park has permanent ADA compliant restrooms, and we have installed additional wheelchair accessible portable toilets, hand washing stations, free water refill stations, and ATMs.

Sand poses unique challenges, especially for wheelchair and scooter users. We have installed a solid surface to reach the Rock The Ocean Conservation Village, located in the center of the beach, and accessible mobility routes to access the elevated viewing platforms for each of the main performance stages, located on either end of the site. A wide paved boardwalk and parking lot are used as the midway for the festival, and most activities take place along that permanent solid surface, or at each of the three stages.

Section 3 - Parking, Shuttles, and Drop-Off / Pick-Up Location

Like other large events held at this site, most festival parking, including accessible parking, is located at The Galleria Mall at 2414 E. Sunrise Blvd., a few miles nearby. There will be no public parking available at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park during the event. Similar to previous years, we will

have our Park N' Ride Shuttles operating continuously throughout all three days of the festival. Anyone who has purchased a shuttle pass will be able to park for FREE at The Galleria Mall, in our designated parking area, then ride an air-conditioned motor coach directly to and from Tortuga. (See Page 5 for our Wheelchair Drop-Off and Pick-Up location)

Shuttles equipped with powered lifts and trained operators will be available for passengers who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The shuttles will drop off near Tortuga’s main entrance. Bus service will ride a continuous loop Friday from 11 AM - 11 PM and Sat & Sun 10 AM - 11 PM. If you need assistance, our staff can help.

some time and money.

Shuttles buses will pick up passengers at parking lot at NE 9th Street and NE 26 Avenue, located behind The Galleria Mall. There are access ib le parking spaces located nearby throughout The Galleria Mall parking area.

Shuttles will drop off just north of the festival site at South East 5th Street.

We highly recommend purchasing shuttle passes in advance to save yourself

Weekend shuttle passes cost $45 per person in advance (or $60 during festival). Children under 10 ride for free. Single day passes are also available in advance for $25. Link to shuttle passes and directions: http://www.tortugamusicfestival.com/getting-here/

Section 4 - Services for our Guests with Mobility Disabilities - Please stop by the ADA Access Center and/or Info Booth during the festival if you have any questions, need directions or assistance, or want to share your comments with us. We are here to help and want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the music.

Accessible Viewing Areas - Tortuga features three stages located on sand. For guests who identify as having a significant mobility related impairment, wheelchair accessible elevated viewing platforms with accessible pathways are available for you to enjoy the music. Due to limited space at each platform, the viewing areas are reserved for an individual with a m o b i l i t y r e l a t e d d i s a b i l i t y a n d one companion. Children under 18 may also stay together with their parents/guardians. If you have additional companions, we suggest they watch from nearby, in front of the platform or to a side, as space permits. Arrive early for each show you wish to see to ensure best available spot. These reserved areas are first come, first served, and will have ushers to regulate entry. A limited number of chairs will be available or you may use your own chair. We can’t guarantee a seat will be available.

We will do our best to offer you an unobstructed spot to view the performances from. Please visit Info Booth if you need assistance accessing the reserved viewing areas.

Getting Around The Festival - Crowds of 20,000 to 25,000 music fans will be at the festival each day. Expect slow moving, crowded conditions. Manual and powered wheelchairs, three or four-wheeled scooters, and Segway® personal transporters are allowed to be used at Tortuga, but only by guests with mobility disabilities. If you use one, we ask that you please operate your mobility device in a safe and courteous manner, no faster than the walking speed of the pedestrians around you. For safety reasons, devices that move faster than a walking speed, or are heavier and larger than a wheelchair or scooter, will not be permitted. Please note: Tortuga does not provide any on-site transportation, personal care, or wheelchair push service. Bring companions to assist you, if needed.

Recharging Wheelchairs, Scooters, Assistive & Medical Devices - Visit the ADA Access Center to recharge your mobility or medical device. Limited outlets will be provided. Although we will do our best to help you find an outlet to plug into, we cannot guarantee the availability of electricity. Limited charging is available at the stage viewing platforms on a first come, first serve basis. Bring all cords and accessories needed to charge your devices.

Section 9 – Additional Recommendations Box Office and Will Call - A wheelchair accessible customer service lane will be located at the Tortuga Box Office, located at SE 5th Street, 1.5 blocks north of the main entrance. Look for signs with the wheelchair symbol. If you have difficulty accessing the Box Office or Will Call, or need assistance, please let our staff and we will be happy to help. Box Office hours of operation will be posted on our website during week of event.

Entry and Exit - Festival hours are 1 PM to 10 PM on Friday, 4/15, and 11 AM to 10 PM on Saturday, 4/16 and Sunday, 4/17. Park N’ Ride Shuttles will be in service from 11 AM to 11 PM on Friday, 10 AM to 11 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Look for signs with the wheelchair symbol at the entrance and throughout the venue for directions and access info. Everyone entering Tortuga and their belongings are subject to search upon entry or re-entry. You can help keep the lines moving quickly by leaving large bags and prohibited items at home. Any prohibited items that are confiscated will not be held or returned. Check the FAQ on our website for more info about what is and is not allowed.

Be prepared for longer than usual wait times at the beginning and end of each day. Especially as the entire crowd leaves the festival, to avoid the rush you may want to give yourself some extra time to exit. Be prepared for the possibility of long waits for the shuttle buses. We appreciate your patience as everyone waits together.

Re-Entry - Re-entry is only allowed once per day. Additional re-entries may be permitted on a case-by-case basis, specifically for medical necessities. Please identify your needs to gate manager before you leave. If you have difficulties re-entering, you may ask for assistance from a supervisor, or stop by the Info Booth before you exit. Please send e-mail to [email protected] if you have any concerns.

Chairs - Guests may bring a low-backed concert chair or blanket to the festival to sit on. Low-backed, folding concert chairs that sit less than one foot off the ground are allowed. Guests who are not able to sit that low to the ground due to an injury or disability may request permission to bring a higher chair, such as a camping chair or other folding chair. Please send e-mail to [email protected] with your request.

Beat The Heat - Be prepared for the heat. Did we mention it’s going to be HOT? To be more comfortable during the festival you may want bring an empty bottle (up to 2-liters) to refill with cold water, bring a small bottle of sunscreen, wear lightly colored clothing and long sleeves for added sun protection, carry a small portable fan, or bring a water misting bottle that may be filled with ice water to cool you off. A small, personal sized, folding umbrella provides a little extra shade from the hot Florida sun. The size of the umbrella should be no larger than one that would fit comfortably in a purse or pocket. Sorry, beach umbrellas and large rain umbrellas are not allowed at the festival. These are all just suggestions. We would love your feedback on other ideas and suggestions!
