OUR HALLS OF RESIDENCE

As Scotland’s largest city and with five higher education institutions, Glasgow has an excellent supply of student accommodation, wherever in the city you choose to live. The Glasgow School of Art offers new undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to stay in one of two purpose-built halls of residence; Blythswood House, and Margaret Macdonald House. Both sites are located in the city centre, close to amenities and travel links, and within five minutes’ walk of the main GSA Garnethill campus. All our halls are secure, fully-furnished and utility-inclusive, making your move to study in Glasgow as stress-free and comfortable as possible.

Our halls of residence at Blythswood House are situated at Blythswood Square, under 5 minutes’ walk from the main GSA campus, the halls are purpose-built for GSA students. With space for 200 residents across six floors, Blythswood House is the perfect place for socialising or working with fellow students, or for quiet private study. The halls are spacious and fully-furnished with a contemporary feel, with a selection of accommodation to suit your needs: flats of 6, 7 or 8 with shared kitchen/lounge and ensuite bathrooms, and 1 or 2 bedroom suites with private bathroom, kitchen/lounge area and double rooms.

Facilities and Specifications––– A selection of fully-furnished flats

––– Lounge/kitchen area in each flat, fully equipped with kitchen appliances

––– A private exhibition space, a boardroom, a small cinema and a games room available for use

––– Large common room area on each floor

––– Dedicated postgraduate floors, flats and common rooms

––– Large area for indoor cycle storage

––– Excellent speed free WiFi throughout

––– Personal possessions insurance included in rent (some limitations and excess applies)

––– Onsite accommodation office with residential staff available out of hours

––– All rents are utility inclusive, apart from laundry facilities (£3.50 per wash)

––– Onsite laundry available on a pay-as-you-go basis, which can be paid via a mobile app

––– Queen sized beds in all single rooms with luxury mattress and topper.

Blythswood House residents can take advantage of facilities including an exhibition space, a boardroom, a small cinema and a games room.

Postgraduate students can choose to stay on dedicated floors, flats and common rooms, or rent a private one bedroom flat within Blythswood House.

ABOUT GLASGOWGlasgow is Scotland’s largest city and one of Europe’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan, with a wealth of cultural heritage to explore and inspire. It is a ‘walkable’ city, easy to navigate and famous for its friendly, hospitable people. Generally speaking, Glasgow is a safe and welcoming place, and the location of halls in the city centre is highly populated. Students will feel safe walking home at night, but should take precautions as in any other major European city.

APPLYING FOR HALLSMaking an application to stay in one of our halls of residence is simple and straightforward – just follow the link to apply online: www.gsa.ac.uk/hallsapplication

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO1 ––– Complete online application

2 ––– Submit application by 31 May

3 ––– Confirmation of a place usually by the end of June

We still accept applications after the deadline of 31 May, but priority goes to applications meeting this deadline and spaces can only be offered if rooms remain available.

Applicants should note that sometimes the demand for accommodation outweighs the number of rooms available. If this is the case, priority is given to students who have accepted an offer of full-time study at GSA; have no previous experience of living independently; have a recognised and declared disability or special need; or live outwith daily travelling distance.

RENT COSTSFrom £110 for a single room in Margaret Macdonald House. From £135 for a single room with ensuite bathroom in Blythswood House.

Margaret Macdonald House is situated within a few minutes’ walk of all buildings on our main Garnethill campus. Each flat is based on 4, 6 or 8 residents sharing, with fully-furnished bedrooms – some ensuite – and a spacious lounge/kitchen area in each flat.

––– Good sized wardrobe, storage and desk area in all bedrooms

––– Shared lounge/kitchen area in each flat, fully equipped with kitchen appliances

––– All rents are utility inclusive, apart from laundry facilities (£3.50 per wash) and electricity (rent includes a £300 electricity prepayment, power used over this limit has to be paid for locally)
