WILLIAM CUTTER, RABBI, PhD is Steinberg Emeritus Professor in Human Relations. He was Professor of Education and Modern Hebrew Literature and Founding Director of the Kalsman Institute, HUC-JIR, Los Angeles. KAREN FOX, RABBI, MFT has served Wilshire Boulevard Temple since the the mid 1980’s when she was the Director of Camp Hess Kramer. She also holds a Doctor of Divinity and is a licensed Marriage and Family Psychotherapist. JULIE PELC, RABBI, MAEd is Assistant Director of Kalsman. She is co-editor of the anthology, Joining the Sisterhood: Young Jewish Women Write Their Lives. She writes and teaches on pastoral care based on her studies of the Book of Job: “When More Bad Things Happen to Good People.” MICHELE PRINCE, LCSW, MAJCS is Director of the Kalsman Institute. She is a member of the oncology social work staff at the USC/Norris Cancer Hospital and is founder of the Jewish Bereavement Project. HOWARD SILVERMAN, MD currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Information Resources at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University. He is a Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Arizona. The Kalsman Institute and WilshireBoulevard Temple, Los Angeles areproud to offer ASSAF: Judaism, Healthand Healing for Physicians. This retreatand online learning program isdesigned to help Jewish physiciansintegrate their clinical and spirituallives.

The course of study brings togetherthe clinical experience and theory ofleading practitioners with the richresources of the Jewish tradition.

The online education course is book-ended by retreats, and providesa realistic program for clinicians whooften have cramped schedules andcompeting demands on their time.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 20088:00 AM – 8:00 PM includes meals, prayer services,group and chevruta, or partnered, Torah and textstudy and ample free time.

DECEMBER 15, 2008 - FEBRUARY 27, 2009Immediately following the Opening Retreat, partici-pants begin the online portion of the program,studying in chevruta, or partners, using the internet,telephone and printed materials.

The website has easy to follow details, includingHebrew and English texts, partner study questions, aparticipant and faculty discussion board for onlinedialogue, and materials for further study.Participants should plan to spend between 1-3 hoursper week on average. This can be done anywhereand any time it is convenient for you to access theinternet.

This program was initially created as a collaboration between the KalsmanInstitute and Phoenix’s Temple ChaiDeutsch Family Shalom Center, offeringJewish physicians a way to integrate theirclinical and spiritual lives.

A team of clergy, physicians and health-care professionals came together to draftthe scope and curriculum for ASSAF. Anadvisory group was convened to createand implement a course in Jewish healthand healing for physicians. Members ofthis advisory group are:
