    Numerical Ability1. In a 120 litres of mixture of milk and water,

    water is only 25%. The milkman sold 20 litresof this mixture and then he added 16·2 litresof pure milk and 3·8 litres of pure water in theremaining mixture. What is the percentage ofwater in the final mixture ?(A) 22 (B) 21(C) 24 (D) 25(E) 20Ans. (C)Hint—Ratio of water and milk in the mixture

    = 25 : 75 = 1 : 3Now the milkman sold 20 litres of the mxiturethen remaining mixture

    In 100 litres, The quantity of water = 100 × 14

    = 25 litres

    and The quanity of milk = 100 × 34

    = 75 litresGiven, the milkman added 16·2 litres of puremilk and 3·8 litres of pure water in the remaining100 litres mixture.Then , the quanity of water = 25 + 3·8

    = 28·8 litresNow, the required percentage of water in thefinal mixture

    II. The annual profit earned by A, B and Cfrom the business was 45,000. The sumof A’s share of annual profit and B’sshare of annual profit was 35,100.

    (A) The data in statement I alone aresufficient to answer the question, whilethe data in statement II alone are notsufficient to answer the question.

    (B) The data in statement II alone aresufficient to answer the question, whilethe data in statement I alone are notsufficient to answer the question.

    (C) The data either in statment I alone or instatement II alone are sufficient toanswer the question.

    (D) The data in both statements I and IItogether are not sufficient to answer thequestion.

    (E) The data in both the statements I and IItogether are necessary to answer thequestion.

    Ans. (E)Hint—From statements I and II :

    Total share of A and B = 351007x × 12 + 6x × 12 = 35100

    x = 225Now, B’s profit = 6 × 225 × 12

    = 16200A’s profit = 35100 – 16200

    = 18900and C’s profit = 45000 – 35100

    = 9900Investment ratio of B and C = 12 : 11

    B’s investment = 6 × 225 = 1350

    Hence, C’s investment = 1350 × 1112

    =2475

    2But C’s profit = 9900Assume C joined for x months, so

    24752 × x = 9900

    x =9900 × 2

    2475x = 8 months

    3. What is the volume of the cylinder (in m3) ?I. The sum of height and radius of the

    cylinder is 24 m. The surface area of thecylinder is 2112 sq m.

    II. LCM and HCF of the numerical valuesof the radius and height of the cylinder

    are 70 and 2 respectively. The square ofnumerical values of the radius of thecylinder is 96 more than the square of thenumerical value of the height of thecylidner.

    (A) The data in statement I alone aresufficient to answer the question, whilethe data in statement II alone are notsufficient to answer the question.

    (B) The data in statement II alone aresufficient to answer the question, whilethe data in statement I alone are notsufficient to answer the question.

    (C) The data either in statement I alone or instatement II alone are sufficient toanswer the question.

    (D) The data in both statements I and IItogether are not sufficient to answer thequestion.

    (E) The data in both the statements I and IItogether are necessary to answer thequestion.

    Ans. (D)Hint—From statement I :

    r + h = 24 …(1)

    And 2πrh = 2112

    rh = 336 …(2)These eq. cannot be solved so value of r and hare not found.From statement II :

    rh = 70 × 2 = 140 …(1)r2 – h2 = 96 …(2)

    The value of r and h are not found.

    4. There are 600 members in a club. Each ofthem like either one or more of the givencuisines—Chinese, Mexican and Italian. How manymembers like only Mexican cuisine ?I. 57% of the members like Italian cuisine.

    18% of the members like only Chinesecuisine and 15% of the members likeonly Chinese and Mexican cuisine.

    II. 58% of the members like either two ormore of all of the given cuisines. 43% ofthe members do not like Mexican cuisine.

    (A) The data in statement I alone aresufficient to answer the question, whilethe data in statement II alone are notsufficient to answer the question.
