This course uses an integrated approach to teach accounting. Students first learn how businesses plan for and evaluate their operating, financing, and investing decisions and then how accounting systems gather and provide data to internal and external decisions makers. This yearlong course covers all the learning objectives of a traditional college level financial accounting course, plus those from a managerial accounting course. Topics include an introduction to accounting, accounting information systems, time value of money, and accounting for merchandising firms, sales and receivables, fixed assets, debt and equity. Other topics include statement of cash flows, financial ratios, cost-volume profit analysis and variance analysis.

The students will complete the following Modules or Units

Module 1 Journalizing Purchases and Cash PaymentsModule 2 Journalizing Sales and Cash Receipts Using Special JournalsModule 3 Posting to General and Subsidiary LedgersModule 4 Posting to General and Subsidary LedgersModule 5 Preparing Payroll RecordsModule 6 Payroll Accounting, Taxes and ReportsModule 7 Distributing Dividends and Preparing a Worksheet for a Merchandising Business

Module 8 Financial StatementsSupplies

Students will need pencils, loose-leaf notebook paper, and a flash drive. Students should also designate a folder to keep returned work, assignments, and projects in. Work done in class will be needed to study for the end-of-semester and end-of-year exams, and be used as a reference for grades. Students may bring their own calculators; however, a classroom set will be available.Grading (Remember: Teachers dont give grades; students earn grades.)A total point system is used to calculate grades. Points are distributed according to the difficulty of the assignment. Homework will be graded for completion and accuracy. Points will be deducted for incomplete work.

Participation = 20% A = 90-100

Classwork = 20% B = 80-89

Projects = 20% C = 71-79

Quizzes = 20% D = 70Final Exam = 20% F = 69 and belowFUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA)

FBLA is a co-curricular organization for students enrolled in a business course or has been enrolled in a course.

Class time will be allowed for FBLA activities and FBLA Projects may substitute for grades on class assignments as approved by the teacher.

FBLA is a wonderful organization and I strongly encourage students to take advantage of the opportunities that FBLA has to offer each of you.

Procedures for Makeup Work/Tests

Students may makeup work for excused absences. Students will have three day for every day missed to make up work- after the make -up day, additional points will be taken off the grade earned for late work.Class Expectations/Rules

1. No food or drink at the computers and no grooming items in the studio or classroom.

2. Excellent attendance is expected in this class. Be sure to be prompt & ready to begin class on time.

3. Be courteous and respectful of others & school property.

4. Maintain a quiet and productive work environment.

5. Notify the teacher when your equipment is not working properly.

6. Return all equipment and cords when you are finished for the day.

7. Be a good digital citizen. No PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES, No personal e-mail or Instant Messaging, no personal web surfing, YouTube, games, Twitter, etc. (Only websites related to class & approved by the teacher.) Please sign and maintain a copy of the attached AUP.

8. Only school related items may be printed. Items must be approved & printed by the teacher. (No personal printing)

9. Logout and leave the computer ready for the next person to use. Do not change computer settings (screen savers, etc.) Keep files organized in locations specified by the teacher. Stray files on the desktop or server may be moved or deleted.10. Stay in your seat until the bell rings, push in your chairs, throw away any trash & take all of your belongings.

11. Follow ALL School & Classroom Safety Rules.
