Welcome to the AcePetrol. Rock ’n’ roll. The Ace Cafe. Three simple expressions, but they represent the most powerful fusion, not only in yesterday’s and today’s bike and car scene worldwide, but also in tomorrow’s. Inspired by rich heritage and traditions, the spirit remains the same. The Ace still embodies the same values today as it did when it was built as a transport cafe in 1938, and which became a magnet for the Ton-Up Boys (and girls) and Rockers. What could be found on a Triton when going for the ton in the 1950’s and ’60s is emulated today on modern sports bikes and streetfighters. Hosting all who share the passion, celebrating diversity and the difference, immersing into a culture with its own ethos - all combine to produce an addictive ambience and atmosphere that is to be both savoured and treasured and, when shared, is simply the best. It is with privilege and pride that we invite you to take a journey with us through the unique Ace Cafe London - and now Ace Cafe Orlando - experience.

More than just a cafe, the Ace is a shared identity and a vital point in a culture that will continue to thrive and evolve in the decades to come. Already long established as a cafe in the UK at its original site on the North Circular in London, the Ace Cafe has become a global phenomenon - and that has not been achieved by chance. Every year, the Ace Cafe attends events all over the world. The Ace has been represented at numerous major motor-cycle, auto and rock ’n’ roll events worldwide, and there are now licensees operating in six different countries, all working together to promote Ace Cafe and its ethos!

A Global Speed Thrills Culture

Countdown to 2016With a 77-year history (and counting) in London now germinating in Orlando, this 3-acre bastion of motors, music and meals, known

as the Ace Cafe Orlando, will rock America’s world. You can bet it won’t be long before the original Mods & Rockers will be pack-ing British Airways flights to Orlando, joining their American cousins, to celebrate the Grand Opening of the first Ace Cafe in the USA in 2016. This is the real thing. Calloused hands or painted nails, wrenches and leaking crankcases, all are welcome as is the newest offering from Aston Martin or Detroit. Rev up and be a part of it, ride out downtown and check us out!

Page 8: Ace Cafe Orlando 12.15

Ace Cafe London is an original that will never be duplicated, with a style and culture all its own. While the Ace has captured the attention of the world in the last 77 years, it recently picked up steam here stateside when American Mark McKee partnered with Ace Cafe London to expand into North America. Togeth-er, they hosted events here on American soil - Barber Vintage Festival, Bonneville Salt Flats Time Trials, New York Auto Show, AIMExpo, among others - and are now well into the restoration of three historic industrial buildings in downtown Orlando to bring the first Ace Cafe to the USA.

“In the UK, the folks who love the Ace call themselves ‘Petrol-heads,’” says McKee. “In the U.S., although we don’t use the word ‘petrol’ here much, the Ace will occupy the same space in the hearts of people who share a common passion for motors.” The Ace in America is something that has been a long time com-ing, according to Mark Wilsmore, founder of Ace Cafe London and the primary driver behind its resurrection in 1994. Wilsmore says that for years people have been asking him when the Ace was going to the U.S., so it’s been on the horizon for a while. And now, through a lot of hard work, and a little luck, the British are coming. Again. “For the last dozen years I have had Americans visiting the Ace every month and asking me when we would open an Ace in the States,” says Wilsmore. “The demand for the Ace has pushed us to the U.S. Our focus on Ace Cafe Orlando will give folks a home to share their passions.” McKee acknowledges that there were several loca-tions in the U.S. that were in the running to be Ace’s first U.S. home, but Orlando won out for a variety of reasons. “We looked at a number of great cities, but Orlando quickly rose to the top of our list,” he explains. “The city was totally supportive, and we got a spectacular three-acre location in the middle of down-town. There’s a ton of great clubs, swap meets, and a huge interest in everything moto. AIMExpo is here, Bike Week and Speed Weeks are in Daytona; and there’s Sebring, Homestead, Bradenton, AMA pro racing…the list is endless.” Ace Cafe Orlando is located on the train tracks at 100 W. Livingston Street in downtown Orlando, and will be a mo-tor-centric compound, with sub-tenants that will add to the appeal and excitement of the destination. “Although we share the same love of everything motor, we are not located on the outskirts of town, as Ace is in London,” says McKee. “Our location in downtown Orlando was selected purposely to be in the downtown core, in an area that we could help restore, in a location where residents and visitors to Orlan-do could get an authentic experience like you get in London.” The Ace is already well-known among the cafe racer crowd, there will be something for everyone at the new Ace Cafe Or-lando, including hot rodders, muscle cars, V-twin cruisers and lovers of great music, good food and fun times.

Historic Site Home to Ace Cafe The Harry P. Leu buildings and grounds, built at the turn of the 20th century in downtown Orlando, are under a complete renovation and restoration. The site, which hasn’t been touched in decades, was once home to a famous rock ’n’ roll venue called The Edge in the early ’90s, where artists from Pearl Jam to Phish, and Green Day to Lenny Kravitz graced its stages. After The Edge closed, a country bar called 8 Seconds opened and entertained fans for a number of years. Cut to 2016, when these same buildings - some over 100 years old - will become home to Ace Corner, the motor-centric petrolhead destination housing the Ace Cafe Orlando restaurant, bar, and cafe, Rockers Retail shop, live rock ’n’ roll stages, Dainese, Magic City Cycles, as well as the headquarters of Ace Cafe North America.

Get Your BearingsAce Cafe Orlando is located in the heart of downtown Orlando, Florida and only 20 minutes from Orlando International airport. Situated off of Interstate 4, and close to the intersection of High-way 408 (East-West Expy), Ace Cafe Orlando is a 20-minute drive to the attractions corridor and the Orange County Convention Center. Daytona Speedway, “The World Center of Racing,” lies 40 miles north, and famous Cocoa Beach is 50 minutes east. Ace Cafe Orlando is located at 100 W. Livingston St, corner of Garland Ave. Next to Lynx Central Station & SunRail.

1. RETAIL (18,000 sf on two floors). This building will house Ace Cafe’s Rockers Retail shop (home to official Ace Cafe London & Ace Cafe Orlando apparel), Dainese (D-store), and Magic City Cycles. Dainese is an Italian manufacturer of high-quality protective gear for motorcycling, downhill biking, and skiing, and also owns the AGV Helmet line of products. Magic City Cycles, dealers for BMW, Ducati, and Triumph, has dealerships and service centers in Orlando and Daytona, and will have a showroom on the first floor of the Ace across from Dainese. These tenant partners will add to the motor-centric ethos of Ace Corner by participat-ing in the evening and weekend bike, car, and rock ’n’ roll meets and events.

Stonebridge MotorGallery will debut on the second floor. The 3,000 sf motor-gallery overlooks an eighty-foot length of windows along Livingston Street, where vintage and custom bikes from around the world will be displayed, as well as original pieces of motor-inspired art by some of the most creative artists in their field. It’s an amazing space doing double duty as a showroom and as a private event space, holding over 100 people.

2. ACE CAFE (14,000 sf on two floors). Two floors, two kitchens, three bars, an ’open early’ tea and coffee bar open early, and the famous Ace Cafe communal counter experience, with a balcony/mezzanine that overlooks the main floor dining area and the main stage for rock ’n’ roll shows - all while you eat.

3. THE BARN (8,000 sf on one floor). The barn serves as the main live music venue - a combination of seated and standing with capacity up to 500, as well as doing ex-tra duty as a multi-purpose facility for private events and functions.

Ace Cafe Orlando It’s like having a second garage and your favorite coffee shop all rolled into oneOrlando is home to tens of thousands of cars, from classic and vintage to the exotic. And why not, the weather is great and there are no salted roads to ruin your wheels. When you throw in rat rods, hot rods, race cars and modern muscle machines, the northern Florida population of car junkies jumps exponentially. Many owners belong to some sort of a club, asso-ciation, forum or social group of people owning sim-ilar machines, collective knowledge can be pooled about the nuances of their particular vehicles. Most groups have meetings of some kind - formal or in-formal - and that’s where the fun begins. The sharing, ad-vising and bragging usually takes place over some kind of food and drink…maybe even some good music too. Whether it’s over donuts and coffee, or a steak dinner and beer, much can get done, from solving the mechanical challenge, to planning the next ride or drive out. As motor-lovers, we love our own garages, but getting out as a group of people with motors is where it all comes together. The Ace’s history has always had music in-grained in its activities. Car shows, new model pre-views, show & shines and of course, live rock ’n’ roll shows. Ace Cafe Orlando will be no different, mixing motors with food, beverages and spectacular tunes. Drive in, order a snack, boogie a while, and check out the machinery. Join us and millions of enthusiasts globally by saying “See Ya at the Ace!”

As motor-lovers, we love our own garages, but getting out as a group of people with motors is where it all comes together.

4. CAR PARK (Our huge parking lot and meets area). Bike and car meets and events will dominate the parking lot in the eve-nings and at weekends. Vehicles will actually wrap the lot and become the focal point of each day. Parking is free for guests and Ace Cafe parking marshals will direct the ’best’ and ’cool-est’ vehicles of the meet up front next to the building, where people can mix, mingle and check out the vehicles, take pho-tos, and indulge in motor chat! Previously, live concerts were hosted here for as many as 9,000 people, where rock ’n’ roll tours by the likes of Green Day and the Warped Tour were held.

5. BACKYARD (Gardens area in the back of the Ace Cafe). Just off of the back porch, where bike and car events, concerts, and private parties will take place. Features include a large deck off the south side of the Ace, outdoor dining and bars, multi-ple areas for bike and car displays, and outdoor stage for live music, and the Barn.

6. ADDITIONAL PARKING (Bank of America Building). There are several public parking garages in close proximity to the Ace, which will be available for guest use during large weekend bike and car events taking place in the Ace car park. There are many nearby hotels to house our guests, as well.

What can people expect at Ace Cafe Orlando?Ace is more than just a cafe, it’s a shared identity and a vital point in a culture that will continue to thrive and evolve in decades to come. We’ve been here for the motoring and rock ‘n’ roll community from the begin-ning and intend to stay for as long as it needs us. The speed thrills culture is what we’re all about. If you love bikes, cars and rock ’n’ roll - you may already know the Ace. We’re a place to gather. But even if you aren’t a car or bike enthusiast, we think you’ll still love the Ace. A place where all can get a good meal at a decent price. For generations, The Ace Cafe has been the gathering place for those passionate about the rock ’n’ roll cul-ture and a love of fast moving metal. Fueling motorists and their motors since 1938; two wheels, four wheels and frankly anything with an engine, we’ve been there from the beginning and continue to lead the way. We’re an event space, a music venue. A rallying point for good times, good people, good motors and rock ’n’ roll. We’re a culture infused with thrills and speed. And more than a destination and location, we’re a community. We’re utilitarian, humanitarian, egalitar-ian and libertarian.

What about the food? We’re very big on the quality of our food, where it’s from, how it’s raised, locally-sourced and in some cases or-ganic. We are careful to provide the best and freshest menu items we can find. Our guests, patrons and vis-

itors can have a great meal, grab a cold one, listen to some great live rock, rockabilly, blues, and garage, meet and make friends, see, hear and even smell some amazing motorcycles and cars, and leave feeling like you’ve just been part of something very special.

What kind of meets and events are hosted at the Ace?All kinds! Car shows, cruises, bike meets, swaps, prod-uct launches, new model introductions, live music, film shows - you name it! Over the course of a year, Ace Cafe London hosts a diverse array of bike and car meets and events! The Ace is a place where even if you aren’t into a love of cars or motorcycles, you can still enjoy the buzz of an authentic Ace Cafe experience, just stop by and say hi. One and all are welcome. No walls. Rebuilding an old beater Triumph in your garage? Cool. Did you just save up enough money to get that old ’68 Mustang you’ve had your eye on? Awesome. Is your family look-ing for a place to eat dinner Friday night? Right on. Some people have saved all their adult lives to restore a car, or a bike, and then show it off - proud of their work, and proud to be associated with other Triumph or Mustang owners. That’s what we’re here for. We sim-ply enjoy machines, the lines, the fins, the styles, the accoutrements, the apparel…is all part of it. If you appreciate the curve of a Gretsch Country Gent, or the bow of the tank on a Harley, you’ll feel at home.

Are you razing the old buildings where Ace Cafe Or-lando will be?No, quite the contrary. We are restoring them. There are three rundown buildings that are almost 100 years old - the former Harry P. Leu buildings - that we are meticu-lously restoring and bringing back to life. There’s also a backyard area located along the train tracks that hasn’t been tended to in over 25 years that we are going to restore and replant, creating a place for outdoor events and “back yard” dining.

What else can Orlando expect at the Ace?We are a neighborhood cafe & restaurant, and a con-tributing and supporting member of local charities, in-cluding Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, the Orlando Police & Fire, and others. Ace Cafe Orlando will embrace all that Orlando has to offer - and give back even more.

How are you different from Ace Cafe London?Although we share the same love of everything motor related, we are not located, as in London, on the out-skirts of town. Our location in downtown Orlando was selected purposely. We wanted to be in the downtown core, in an area that we could help restore, in a location where both residents and visitors to Orlando could enjoy

an authentic experience. Our location on the corner of Garland and Livingston means we are easy to get to - we can accommodate daily foot traffic, support the SunRail riders, Lynx, Mears, local office buildings, and with our massive car park, we are one of the only places downtown where our guests can park for free. We’re tucked nicely into the city, our guests can ex-pect an experience free from dangerous roadways, with plenty of traffic lights and well-lit directional signage.

The Ace originally opened in 1938 as a transport cafe open 24-hours a day, where truckers stopped off for refresh-ments. It soon started to attract motorcyclists, many of whom would race their bikes to 100mph, the Ton! As time went by, a pattern emerged - a group would come together through a shared interest, hang out for a few years, then disperse. Another group would take their place, drawn together by the same interests, outwardly similar but subtly different in their choice of dress, music, and the machines they rode. So between the press and the magistrates, these youngsters start getting labeled as Ton-Up kids. Once you

label a generation with contempt, that generation will turn around and go “Yeah, I’m a Ton-Up kid,” and try even harder to live up to the tag. And did they ever.

Rockers: How We Got Here Out of the baby boom came young lads who missed out on WWII, and they wanted some action. They earned only a little money, but with the advent of credit, these teenagers in the UK could afford a motorcycle. In the States, it was cars. At that time, with no posted speed limits outside the towns, the fast roads with their cafes, coffee and milk bars and truckstops, invariably with jukeboxes playing rock ’n’ roll, the kids had the motors, the roads and the soundtrack to boot. There was no rider training, L-plates were mean-ingless, and there were no speed limits. If you had a motorbike and it was fast, you were cool.

So you had the cafes, the rock ’n’ roll - and with the bike, speed! The teenager had arrived. Everything had changed. But these lads wouldn’t be identified as Rockers until 1964, again, courtesy of the media.

Truckers to Ton-Up Boys

#BikesCarsandRocknRoll #AceCafeOrlando

The Way We Were The legendary cafe the Ace as it once was. These days it’s hard to imagine when you are sat in the bustling cafe, eat-ing a bowl of chili and cheesy chips among a throng of bike or car enthusiasts, but for years the Ace was simply a transport cafe - originally built to serve the then new A406 North Circular Road - tempting customers with a menu that included such delights as gammon and egg, liver and bacon. Ace Cafe Orlando’s menu will delight even further!

Page 15: Ace Cafe Orlando 12.15

Imagine you are a 14-year-old kid from a working-class background. You know when you are 18 you’re going to be called up for National Service, so you grow your hair, earn a bit of money, and buy yourself a bike and think “OK, I’m going to have a good time because they’re going to stick me in the Army soon…” You do your two years of National Service and by now you’ve got a bit more cash, so you come out in 1963 and go buy yourself a Bonnie and think you are a right Jack-the-lad. But if you are 14 in 1963, the dynamic has changed. Your aspiration is now more middle class. A bit more af-fluent. But bikes have become relatively expensive. Along come the Italians and offer some crazy promotional deals on scooters. You are already listening to modernistic mu-sic (beat music influenced by American blues and Jamai-can ska) and you are spending your money on the new fashion of tailored suits. And now you can afford a scooter. With the latest Carnaby Street fashions, you are a sharp-dressed man. And mobile. In 1964, you and your mates decide to ride down to Brighton on your scooters on Bank Holiday Monday. When you get there, the Ton-Up boys are already there on their bikes. This, remember, is the first time in history that an en-tire generation has their own transport. Before, you’d be tagging along with your Mum and Dad, or staying home. But there are two distinct groups - distinct by age, group, clothing, and method of transport. And what’s

more is that the aspirations of both groups are different — working-class for ton-up boys and middle class for the modernists who wore ex-US army Parkas to protect their finery. They meet on Brighton seafront and all hell kicks off. When the press get hold of it, they like labels. The Ton-Up boys listen to Rock ’n’ roll. “Aah, they must be rockers.” So the Ton-Up kids go: “Yeah, I’m a Rocker…”So there you have it: Mods and Rockers.

The Heart of the Ace An army marches on its stomach - and that applies to bike and car enthusiasts, too. The Ace might be the ultimate meet-ing place for petrolheads in the world, but good old-fash-ioned British fayre is one of the big attractions. That, and the carefully pre-planned meets and events so you can pick the occasion that suits you and everyone who shares your inter-ests. At Ace Cafe Orlando these traditions will continue, with some new twists on the menu - and the program.

Page 18: Ace Cafe Orlando 12.15

Ace Cafe’s iconic, stylish and distinctive emblem is instantly recognizable and has come to represent an authentic, simple, hardworking and straightforward speed-inspired ethos and culture. In the late ’50s and early ’60s, the motorcycle industry was at its peak in Britain, muscle cars started to make their presence known in the USA, and along came rock ’n’ roll. Not played on UK radio stations, initially the only place rock ’n’ roll could be heard was on jukeboxes at cafes. From this powerful fusion of motorbikes, cars, and rock ’n’ roll came the legend of the Ace and a significance for motorcycle, car, and music lovers all over the world. Ace Cafe Orlando continued that tradition last year at AIMExpo with a great show from The Stray Cat Lee Rocker. “The spirit, history, and culture of Rockabilly lives on at the Ace Cafe,” said Rocker. “With some of the greatest ever - Gene Vin-cent visiting on one of his tours, even The Beatles, before they became famous. I was thrilled to work with George and Ringo, Carl Perkins, and Scotty Moore in my career, so I’m excited to continue the tradition of great Rockabilly at the Ace.” Giving back to the community also plays a big role at the Ace. Recently, Ace Cafe Orlando also announced that it partnered with the Melodic Caring Project (melodiccaring.org) to present young patients at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children (arnoldpalmer-hospital.com) live streamed concerts to their hospital rooms in Orlando, featuring the soulful sounds of Alabama Shakes, the triple Grammy-nominated American rock ’n’ roll band from Ala-bama, whose latest release debuted at number one on American Billboard 200. Last year, with co-hosts Jay Leno and comedian Rob Riggle, Ace Cafe hosted a roof-top launch party at the Petersen Auto Museum in Hollywood for the Brough-Superior, celebrating their triumphant return to the Bonneville Salt Flats, where they set two land speed records. The Ace also raised money and aware-ness for the Boot Campaign (www.bootcampaign.com), whose mission is to provide assistance to military personnel and their families, by auctioning off a vintage Bruce Willis motorcycle.

It’s a motorized culture. America is obsessed with it, and so are the British. They approach “speed,” however, with different points of view - the Americans with drag strips, Bonneville, and big oval Indy tracks. The Euros preferred what they called “road racing” with twists and turns on a public course. It took a while for the Americans to warm up to this type of curvy racing - and for the Brits to warm up to our big stretches of land. Triumph, the leading British motorcycle manufactur-er in the 1960’s, came across the Atlantic to tackle what previously was Yankee territory - the Bonneville Salt Flats. Johnny Allen piloted the Triumph-powered ‘Texas Cee-gar’ streamliner to over 245 mph for the 2-wheeled land speed record in 1956, since then, Triumph has owned the term ‘Bonneville’ for their motorcycle models, and the British

marque was forever impressed upon the American motor-cycle market. Speed had now become an obsession on 2-wheels, and it was an international race for top speeds, with Britain’s Malcolm Campbell topping the list. Brough-Superiors and Vincents from England had also been making top speed motorcycle showings at Bonneville. World famous Rollie Free broke 150 mph in his underwear and wearing goggles on an un-faired machine. The speed thrills of the British rockers hanging out at the Ace Cafe had transferred over to the Americans, as had the music - unfettered and unfiltered. Hold it wide open and see what she’ll do. Rock-and-roll! FAST! Come share some of that spirit of speed at Ace Cafe Orlando, when you slow down enough to join us.

What was supposed to have been a mere publicity photo op with Orlan-do Mayor Buddy Dyer announcing Ace Cafe Orlando’s groundbreaking, turned into a #GROUNDSHAKER of epic proportions, as more than three hundred cool cars, motorcycles & cafe racers showed up to the Ace to help kick it off. Following a proclamation naming April 30, 2015 as ‘Ace Cafe Day in Orlando’, Mayor Dyer donned a leather jacket with the Ace’s insignia, hopped on a 2015 Triumph Thruxton Ace and gave the executive #ROARUP order for all to “Start your engines.” After a couple of minutes of ear-splitting noise, the ground was officially shaken, and he waved the checkered flag signaling that the Ace had arrived!

Red Torpedo started out as a maverick underwear brand, aiming to rock the status quo with a badly needed injec-tion of attitude. Red Torpedo, KING OF THE UNDERWORLD, was posi-tioned right at the heart of this vibrant music scene, tar-geting the early adopters, those who seek out new music, new films, new clubs, and new clothing brands. We lost patience with the fickle nature of the indie music scene, and knew it was time to move on.

Staying true to our soul as a lifestyle brand for adrenaline junkies, we moved even further from the mainstream, and into

a niche whose lifeblood is one of the most exciting motor-sports in the world - UK Superbike Road Racing. And al-most immediately, we met this Guy. Well, THE Guy actually, Mr. Guy Martin. The new gear went down a storm. We dug in deep and started working with more Superbike legends: John McGuin-ness, Carl Fogarty, Conor Cummins, Gary Johnson, and Josh Brookes. And we gave our team a new name and called them…THE RED RIDERS.

With our tails up, we went to another shrine of British Motorcycle Racing culture - The Ace Cafe London. We met Ace boss Mark Wilsmore, got on a treat, and our premium clothing line for the Ace Cafe was born. We’re still rocking after four years. Today, RED TORPEDO is rooted in Britain’s motorcycling heritage. British biking is in our blood. From the biggest, balls-out motorcycle race on the planet at the TT, to the blast that is British Superbikes, you’ll find RED TORPEDO on the backs of Britain’s best riders.

Ace Corner at The Barber Vintage FestivalIt’s been some 11 years since Barber Motorsports Park gave birth to the Barber Vintage Festival, a celebration of vintage racing and everything two wheels from the past to the present. With a circuit famous amongst racers for its

technical layout, winding its way up and down through an immac-ulate landscape of manicured grass shrubbery and trees, you are constantly challenged with a series of sweeping turns and tight corners. 17 to be exact.

But there’s one corner in particular worthy of a men-tion. Atop turn 17 lies Ace Corner, a spectacular VIP view-ing area that affords its visitors an 80%view of the track.

Now in its fourth year, the joint venture between Dime City Cycles and Ace Cafe London has matured into something far more than just a good place to watch the racing. It’s an exclusive place; the only way you can get in is through Gate 4. But that’s where the exclu-sivity starts and finish-es. For a small price and with the right ticket up-grade, it’s one of the most inclusive places you can possi-bly be. The new wave custom and vintage motorcycle scene welcomes everyone who shares the speed thrills culture, a love of hand built custom & vintage motorcycles, moto art and live music. This year’s event welcomed over 4,000 visitors to Ace Corner. Rubbing shoulders with bike building royalty, peo-ple were treated to builds by Walt Siegl, Dime City Cycles Herm Narciso, Santiago Chopper’s Alan Bernard and the boys from Xcrambler. In addition, a free ride-in bike show

saw 100 custom bikes covering genres from cafe racers to bobbers, brats, trackers and scramblers of North Ameri-can and European persuausion. New for 2015 was the addition of two key features - the Artist Corner, and music all day, every day. Steve West from Silver Piston joined a number of fellow artisans including Martin Cimek from Motoblot, Asher from Grifter Company and Alicia, aka Motolady. Rachel Clegg joined with her stunningly art directed calendars and prints. The array of handcrafted items included jewellery, limited edi-tion silkscreen prints, hand-painted helmets, all reinforcing the custom, crafted hand built ethos, a signature element of the current scene. Music this year saw the likes of duo Morgan & Michael, Brewer and Steve O and the Travis

Posey band, who rocked the joint with iconic blues, rock and Alabama soul during the party on Saturday night. Further enhancing the experience were the vendors - Ace Cafe Orlando, Red Torpedo, (who brought along Conor Cummins of Isle of Man TT fame), Xcrambler, Barn Luck, Pagnol, and Bedlam Werks were all present. Santiago Chopper was also on hand to provide a stunning 1979 BMW R90 Cafe Racer as a giveaway prize in aid of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Congrats to Kiley Owen who got the lucky draw. Royal Enfield North America made its inaugural ap-pearance as headline sponsor of Ace Corner, marking its intent as a serious contender in the retro modern clas-sic segment. Steeped in British heritage, they bought a stripped down exhibit with a focus on the bikes - the

Continental GT, classics including Desert Storm, 500 and The Bullet. Flanked by a number of special editions, they played low key corporate brand to perfection, blending in rather than dominating proceedings.

Bathed in sunshine with vistas to die for, it really is a special place. So, you might be asking, can this really be the best corner in the world? If you like your bikes custom & classic, drinking an ice cold beer with VIP seating in the most beautiful setting, surrounded by amazing vintage racing, art and music - then it probably is. Mark your calendars for second weekend of October 2016!

This year’s event welcomed over 4,000 visitors to Ace Corner. Rubbing shoulders with bike building royalty...

Painting with Chopsticks at Ace CornerIf you are a collector of fine art, es-pecially motorcycle art, then you are probably familiar with the name Makoto Endo. And, if you were at the Barber Vintage Festival this year and stopped by Ace Corner, you would have been treated to a masterful display of talent, as Makoto created several paintings for the petrol-driven spectators. What makes Makoto’s illustra-tions so unique is that he paints with chopsticks instead of brushes.

Makota had a fascination for graphics at a young age and after studying design and illustration in college, he worked for an ad agency in Tokyo. He eventually found his way to New York, where he worked as an art director and creative director. His passion has always been for motor-cycles and today, Makoto makes an impressive living creating custom paintings for his clients.

“Humans can be distinguished into two types,” Makoto said. “One rides a bike, the other does not. The one who rides doesn’t care how much it costs, or about pain or injury. I paint only for them.”

Ace Cafe Orlando and the American International Motorcycle ExpoNearly 19,000 attendees flocked to Orlando in October for the third edition of AIMExpo, drawing international visitors from more than 50 countries and all 50 U.S. states. With a record number of 566 exhibitors, there was plenty for dealers, consumers and the media to see and do, and the Ace was front & center, with a new look and a new line of Ace Cafe merchandise. Ace also pro-duced the “Saturday Night Rock Up” rock ’n roll party with Jason D Williams & the Memphis Rockers, who tore the roof off the convention center with over 90 minutes of high-octane rockabilly, brought to us by Sailor Jerry spiced Rum, Red Torpedo Clothing, and MOTOTV.

The Orlando Car Scene - A Year-Round Experience! When people think of Florida - sunshine, palm trees, beaches, amusement parks and drinks with little umbrel-las often comes to mind. However, Florida (and Central Florida in particular), offers much more for car enthu-siasts! It’s home to thousands of amazing cars, and a very strong and active car community. There are multiple shows, meets, races, and cruise events. First, the tropical climate that draws all of the beach- goers, also provides ideal opportunities for enjoyment of all things automotive. Without snow and ice, there is no need to “winterize” and put away that hot rod, classic, muscle, exotic, tuner or other specialty car. There’s also no road salt to risk corroding the undercarriage and body if you drive during the winter. Indeed, the year-round opportunities to get out, drive and show off that prized-possession is exciting. Admittedly, it can be a bit on the hot side in the summer, but it sure beats the snow.

In addition to the great weather, Central Florida has a storied automotive history. It’s home to historic racing venues, such as Daytona, Sebring, Orlando Speed World, as well as “Big Daddy” Don Garlits’ Museum of Drag racing. Winter Park has its ever-growing Concours d’Elegance, where the Ace just appeared. Barrett Jackson and Mecums both hold major au-tomotive auctions. Central Florida has also been a part of a couple Hot Rod Power Tours. There are also amazing annual car shows like the Daytona Dream Cruise, and the Daytona Turkey Rod Run, which draw thousands of show cars to the area. And, Orlando is located right in the middle of all of it.

Central Florida is also geographically ideal. You can drive to either Florida Coast within an hour or two, the highway system makes it easy to cruise just about any- where. And for people who prefer to avoid the interstates, there are plenty of two-lane backroads with forested vistas and preservation areas through which to tour.

The combination of weather, history, and geography are part of what makes Central Florida THE place for gear-heads. It’s not unusual to see classics or high perfor- mance cars on the daily commute to work. Central Florida’s draw is not a secret, each year from Halloween to Easter, there is a significant increase in the classic cars and trucks showing up at local events. Snowbirds! Some of our northern friends bring their rides down from as far north as Canada, others leave one or two of their cars stored here for the summer. Some even bring a classic down to Florida, sell or trade it to take something new home, only to repeat the process the fol- lowing season. And then there are the tourists from all over the world who, in addition to the other draws Florida offers, love cars as much as we do. They often come for weeks at a time, always looking for a show to visit just to see the American classic and muscle cars. The excitement and intrigue of the Europeans love for American cars is vocalized each and every time I meet one. Their car stories are quite different from ours, but the passion for motors is just as strong. Some die-hards even rent modern muscle cars so they can participate and not just spectate.

What makes the car scene in Florida so unique from other parts of the country is the constant change of vehi-cles from season to season. Yes, we have seasons. Here in Central Florida we have the summer afternoon rains and the oppressive heat, which may on occasion limit the clas- sics to evening events or the vehicles that have A/C. But, that paves the way for the modern day muscle and perfor- mance cars, with tons of horsepower and modern creature comforts to demonstrate that the horsepower wars did not end in the seventies. All of this means that the Florida car scene is the place to be with shows, cruise-ins, rod runs and racing through- out Florida, on virtually every weekend. Ace Cafe Orlando looks forward to adding to the heritage and strength of

the Central Florida car community. Its location along I-4 makes it a perfect pit-stop when cruising. And Ace will have its own events and offer a perfect venue for clubs and organizations to hold shows, too!

T-birds, Jags, Vettes, Caddys, Bentleys & the Ace!One of the most highly-regarded, judged classic/exotic car shows in the United States - the 14th Annual Winter Park Concours d’Elegance - Central Florida’s Premier Weekend of Motoring Events - which annually attracts more than 10,000 attendees to beautiful downtown Winter Park and features 150 of the world’s rarest and most collectible cars, took place over the Nov 13-15 weekend.

Ace Cafe Orlando was there onsite, along with our Ace Corner partner-tenant Magic City Cycles, and was the pre-senting sponsor of a new addition to the Concours this year - Ace Cafe’s Vintage Motorcycle Display, next to the Supercar Showcase. Tara Bush’s amazing ‘67 Shelby Mus-tang, and a couple of gorgeous ’46 & ’66 vintage Triumphs from our friends at Cafe Moto were also a part of the Ace presence, along with a dozen rare vintage bikes.

See Ya at the Ace!

About Ace Cafe London: The original Ace Cafe opened in 1938 as a “transport cafe” on the north edge of London. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, the Ace became a pillar of the cafe racer culture and the mods & rockers era, as British youth discovered rock ‘n’ roll music on the jukeboxes and raced their bikes from cafe to cafe. Time passed, as did the glory days of the British motorcycle industry, but the dream lived on, and in 1994, Mark Wilsmore staged an event to mark the Ace Cafe’s 1969 closure. About 12,000 people attended this first Ace Cafe Reunion, which was hence dubbed “The World’s Coolest Motorcycle Event” and has been held every year since. Now in its 22 year, the event regularly attracts upwards of 200,000 visitors and 40,000 bikes from more than 40 countries. Mark’s vision brought the iconic cafe back from dereliction to the point where today it is the world’s most famous charismatic destination and pit stop for the global “petrolhead” community. Visit www.ace-cafe-london.com for details. In 2016, the first Ace Cafe in the USA will open on a historic three-acre site in downtown Orlando, Fla.
