Temperature Dependence of Density & Viscosity for ‘Cereclor TM’ Grades

The Data below is based on actual measurements carried out by the Cereclor Technical Service Laboratory during the later part of 1999, and the early part of 2000. As such the measurements were carried out on batches of Cereclor produced at Runcorn, and Baleycourt sites during the same time frame.

HEAT OF COMBUSTION OF ‘Cereclor TM’

The following calculations are all made on the assumption that the grade of ‘Cereclor TM’ considered is S52, but are equally applicable to other grades. For other grades, re-do the calculation using the appropriate molecular formula. The heat of combustion will be different for other grades but it will be seen that the most important factor, which decides the value for any grade, is the carbon number of the paraffin feedstock. Current molecular formula's based on our current paraffin feedstock can be found in the molecular weight section of this literature. The following heats of formation are used in the calculations: H2O ∆H = -57.8 (for H2O vapour) Kcal/mol CO2 ∆H = -94.0 (as gas) " HCl ∆H = -22.1 " C14.9H31.8 ∆H = -96.1 " Then assuming that the formation of ‘Cereclor TM’ S52 is described by the equation: C14.9H31.8 + 6.12HCl C14.9H25.68Cl6.12 + 6.12HCl and that the heat of reaction per mole of chlorine is 32 kcal, the heat of formation of S52 is: 6.12 (-32) - 96.1 - 6.12 (-22.1) = -195.84 -96.1 + 135.25 = -156.69kcal/mol If complete combustion to CO2, HCl and H2O is assumed, this is described by the following equation: C14.9H25.68Cl6.12+ 19.79O2 9CO2 + 6.12HCl + 9.78H2O so that the heat of combustion is given by: 14.9 (-94.0) + 6.12 (-22.1) + 9.78 (-57.8) + 156.69 - 19.79 (0) = 1944.4kcal/mol Since the precise value will depend on the conditions of combustion, a value of ∆H = -2000kcal/mol should suffice for most purposes.

FLASHPOINTS OF ‘Cereclor TM’ GRADES (Pensky-Martens Closed Cup method – BS 2000:part 404:1994)

These measurements were carried out by the ‘Explosion Hazards Section’ of ICI, now owned by Burgoyne Consultants. These measurements were carried out over several years, and updated as new grades were developed. Hence the figures are not typical of any specific period of production, however the nature of the test means that this figures can be taken as a definitive measure of the Flashpoint of each grade.

GLASS TRANSITION TEMPERATURES (T g) The Glass transition temperatures (Tg) have been measured for a limited range of ‘Cereclor TM’ Grades. These were measured externally by LGC during 2000. Full details can be found in LGC Test Report No. LGCNW897. As such the figures are typical of production at Castner-Kellner and Baleycourt during this time period, however there may well be variation from batch to batch. Full summaries of these measurements are detailed below.

SPECIFIC HEAT AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY

Approximate values for specific heat and thermal conductivity are detailed below. For accurate figures measurements on individual grades should be carried out. Specific Heat of ‘Cereclor TM’ is approx. 0.35 Cal/g OC Th. Conductivity of ‘Cereclor TM’ is approx. 2.0–2.5 x10 -4 Cal/cm.s.OC

Vapour Pressure The only grades for which vapour pressures have been measured for are ‘Cereclor TM’ 42, S45, 50LV, S52. An effusiometric technique was used, the results of which are summarised below. Vapour pressures are given in mm of Hg.
