Biological data
Irritation. No irritation was observed after 0.1 ml of the undiluted material was applied to the surface of the rabbit eye (Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, 1981). No irritation was observed after patch-testing 0.5 ml of the undiluted material to intact and abraded rabbit skin for 24 hr under occlusion (Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, 1981).
A 48-hr closed-patch test at a concentration of 10% in petrolatum on the backs of 25 volunteers produced no irritation (Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, 1982).
Sensitization. Tested on guinea-pigs in a delayed hypersensitivity test (Buehler, 1965) with induction and challenge at 25% in corn oil, it produced no sensitization reactions (Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, 1981).
A maximization test (Kligman, 1966; Kligman & Epstein, 1975) was carried out on 25 volunteers. The material was tested at a concentration of 10% in petrolatum and produced no sensitization reactions (Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, 1982).
