ACF Summary Report 2020
ACF held many online events in 2020 – Asian championships, chess camps, Trainers’ Seminars,
Arbiters’ Seminars and workshops.
Following the successful organization of the Asian University Chess Championship, ACF
entering into an MOU with the Asian University Sports Federation. This will help spread chess
in Universities and in their respective sports leagues.
Asian Chess Federation started the previous year by successfully hosting the FIDE Congress, 26-
30 February 2020 in Abu Dhabi.
After the pandemic struck, ACF organized the following online events:

Asian Chess Federation celebrated its 30th
Anniversary at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai 28
Nov 2020 with a Simultaneous Exhibition by former World Champion Anatoly Karpov and with
honorable guest FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich.
We look forward with optimism to 2021 and hope to soon hold face-to-face chess tournaments
again. In the meantime, we will do our best with online events.
In April and May 2021 ACF shall hold Zonals and Continental Championships to select
qualifiers to the World Cup.
In June 2021 ACF will organize the Asian Super Grand Open Championship with $30,000 in
cash prizes.
Hopefully in September players can travel again and join the Asian Youth Chess Championship
in Bali, Indonesia, the Asian Seniors in October in Syria and the Asian Amateur in November in
Oman.

KPIs - Unfortunately due to the pandemic there were no FIDE rated or titled events in 2020.
Lessons Learned and Way Forward
We expect that for the early part of the year, we have to limit ourselves to online
tournaments.
By April/May we shall have hybrid chess events such as the Continental Championship as
required to qualify players to the FIDE World Cup.
Hopefully by the latter part of the year we can organize Over-the-Board tournaments again.

Online FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar for Zone 3.4 FIDE

Uzbekistan Chess Federation
The 83rd Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar (UZB) was held from 13th
to 15th July 2020 using the Zoom platform. It was organized by the Uzbekistan
Chess Federation, under the auspices of FIDE and Asian Chess Federation.
The Lecturer was IA Husan Turdialiev (UZB), FIDE Lecturer and the
Assistant Lecturer was IA Irina Gevorgyan (UZB). The Language of the Seminar
was in Russian. The Seminar took 18 hours in three days.
The Seminar was prepared mainly for the Russian speaking participants from
Zone 3.4 FIDE countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Due
to the increasing interest in such a Seminar we also received applications from other
countries, and they also were allowed to participate. Therefore sixteen arbiters from
seven Federations (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Tajikistan, Ukraine
and Uzbekistan) participated in the Seminar and fifteen of them participated in the
examination test, held after the end of the lectures.
