Kersten Kersten has over 55 years of know-how and experience in bending technology. Pro� les and plates are professionally bent and machined with modern CNC machinery at four production facilities.

Aluminium bendingAluminium extrusions contain various built-in features, such as openings, screw channels, and cooling � ns. During the bending process, force is exerted and the complex cross section can become distorted. We make sure that distortion is limited to an absolute minimum so that functions are not lost.

To deliver the best quality, Kersten has a modern and advanced machine park. Our team of experienced staff bends and processes aluminium in special non-ferrous production facilities.

Curved aluminium pro� les also have an aesthetic function, whereby the surface quality is crucial. Attention to the process and the use of special tooling guarantee maximum protection of the surface.

Specialisation in 3D bending Bending in three dimensions is one of Kersten’s specialties. With 3D bending, a pro� le is curved both horizontally and vertically according to customer speci� cation, either with a � xed rise or in a free form. This is preferably done in the same process.

Kersten masters the following bending technologies:

Roll bendingIn most cases, roll bending is the most � exible and cost-ef� cient bending method. The pro� le is guided between three adjustable rolls and gradually bent in the desired radius. Roll bending is the ideal bending method for pro� les with complex designs and different radii.

Mandrel bendingBending relatively thin-walled pro� les in a very small radius increases the risk of cracks and wrinkles. This is prevented by mandrel bending. Mandrel bending is accurate, fast, and guarantees a constant quality. It is highly suitable for medium to large series productions.

Stretch bendingDuring stretch bending, the pro� le is gripped � rmly on both ends. The machine stretches the pro� le and pulls it around a bending mould. The constant tension on the pro� le limits deformation of the cross section to an absolute minimum. Stretch bending is highly suitable when high demands are made regarding the pro� le’s surface quality.

Kersten can bend almost any standard pro� le. We also bend system pro� les of e.g. Raico, Reynaers, Schüco, and Wicona.

Extrusions provide great freedom in pro� le design. In client-speci� c extrusions, we can advise you when designing the pro� le. We work with you to develop a pro� le section that is optimally adapted to the bending process while maintaining technical and aesthetic requirements.

Client-speci� c extrusion pro� les

CapacityBoth standard (5000, 6000) and special alloys (7000 among others) and different tempers (eg. T4 and T6) can be bent.

Kersten’s machine park is equipped with advanced bending machinery to bend series varying from 1 to 20,000 and up.

Based on a standard EN-AW5000 alloy, we roll your aluminium plates with a width of 3,500mm into cylinders, shells, or cones.

Additional processesFrom tailored advice to the delivery of ready-to-build-in curved components, Kersten offers a complete solution. Our team of professional staff works in clean, non-ferrous factories equipped with modern aluminium bending and processing machines. Quality is closely monitored throughout the entire process.

Machining operationsKersten performs various machining operations, such as double mitre sawing, drilling, and milling of curved pro� les. We use modern 5-axis CNC machining centres which are specially designed for curved products.

WeldingOur team of experienced and certi� ed welders carries out welding processes according to different industry standards:• TIG/GTAW (141)• MIG-MAG/GMAW-FCAW (131-135-136-138)

This is done according to the following quali� cations:• CL1-certi� cate to DIN-EN 15085-2• DIN-EN 1090-3 EXC 1• EN-ISO 3834-2

Surface treatmentsDepending on the application, the product is provided with technical or aesthetic surface treatments. Applying the correct coating can strongly improve material properties such as corrosion resistance, wear resistance, friction coef� cient, and non-stick. For decorative properties, we offer the following processes, among others: • Anodising• Painting• Powder coating

Heat treatmentsWe carry out thermal treatments of aluminium products in our own ovens. These treatments include soft annealing and arti� cial aging (from T4 to T6).
