FY 2013 Accomplishments

Homeownership

• 20familiesreceived$306,800inCHAIhomebuyerand/orhomeimprovement loans and other resources for a total of $1,592,275 in new mortgage investment in the community.

• CHAIreceiveda$2milliongrantfromtheMarylandPublicServiceCommission to establish the CHAI Energy Savings Loan program.

• 92homeownersreceivedforeclosurepreventioncounseling.

• 127prospectivehomebuyersattendedaHomebuyerWorkshop, seven of which were presented during the year.

• InpartnershipwithChabadofParkHeights,CHAIbegananonlineand print marketing campaign to promote homeownership in the Glen neighborhood to out-of-town communities throughout the country.

• From1984-2013,theHomebuyerLoanProgramapproved684loans for homebuyers totaling $6,116,319 in assistance with downpayment,settlementexpensesand/orrenovationprojects.

Senior Home Repair & Weatherization

• 1,365 repairs, modifications and handyman services were provided for 252lowandmoderateincomeseniorhouseholds.

• $70,834 in resources, benefits and entitlements were secured for vulnerable Senior Home Repair Program clients assisted by the program’s Senior Benefits Coordinator.

• 101homeswereweatherized.

Community Engagement

• 95householdscompletedfiveblockbeautificationprojects.

• CommunityConversationsheldacross-culturalSukkahTourandthe17-memberLeadershipTeamwastrainedinculturalsensitivity.

• InpartnershipwithParkHeightsRenaissance,thefirstChometzGiveawayFoodDrivewasheldinMarch2013.

• CHAIbegananassessmentofitspossibleimpactonBaltimoreCounty.

Affordable Senior Housing

• PartneringwithParkHeightsRenaissance,thegroundbreakingfor the 60-unit Renaissance Gardens senior housing in theSouthernParkHeightsareawasheldinNovember2012.ThefacilityistobecompletedinNovember2013.

• CHAIreceivedfundingtodevelopits15th senior housing building, Manor South,a90-unitprojectthatwillbeadjacenttoWeinbergManorEastandWest.Constructionisanticipatedtobegininsummer2013.

• FundingtodeveloptwotothreehousesforpeoplewithdisabilitieswasapprovedforFY14.

• 1,600residentsenjoyedawidevarietyofactivitieseverymonth,including meal programs, shuttle bus transportation, educational classes, recreation and cultural events.

School-Community Partnership

• $192,000 in private money was raised to support public schoolprojects.

• 430studentsparticipatedin25after-schoolprograms.

• CHAIassistedCrossCountryElementary/MiddleSchooltosecurea$30,000grantfromtheGoldsekerFoundationforScience,Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) integration.

• AsamemberoftheBaltimore Education Coalition, CHAI worked to get legislation passed whichallows$1billiontobeleveragedtorebuild/renovate nearly half of the City schools, including Cross Country Elementary Middle School.

Volunteers

• 850volunteersdonatedover3,000 hours toserve166low-incomeseniors and adults with disabilities andperformed300neighborhoodbeautificationprojectsonGoodNeighborDayinNovember2012andMay2013.

• 70ongoingvolunteersdonatedtheirtime throughout the year to assist seniors and adults with disabilities.

Supportive Community Network Project

• 80seniorsassistedindeveloping the first “Village” of our Supportive Community Network, known as Northwest Neighbors Connecting (NNC).

• Over200peopleattendedthe March launch of NNC, including Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and other elected officials.

• SinceJanuary,100differentvolunteerserviceswereprovidedtoseniors by seniors through NNC.
