THE ATLANTIC COUNTY PROSECUTORS OFFICE HAS RECEIVEDACCREDITATION FROM THE NEW JERSEY LAW ENFORCEMENT

ACCREDITATION COMMISSION

MAYS LANDING Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced theaccreditation of the Prosecutors Office by The New Jersey Law EnforcementAccreditation Commission. The commission granted the accreditation by a unanimousvote.

In October, a team of assessors from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs ofPolice (NJSACOP) inspected the Prosecutors Office in Mays Landing. Theassessment team was composed of law enforcement professionals from similar NewJersey law enforcement agencies. The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs ofPolice through its New Jersey Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission is thelegitimate authority and accreditation agency in the State of New Jersey.

The team examined all aspects of the Offices policies, procedures, management,operations and support services. Assessors also reviewed written materials, interviewedagency members and inspected offices and facilities for compliance with professionalcriminal justice standards.

In order to achieve accredited status, the team must verify that an agency complies with112 best practice standards. Part of the accreditation process also included receiving

comment from members of the public.

Upon completion of the assessment teams review, the team reported to theCommission, which unanimously voted to grant the Prosecutors Office accreditation.

The Atlantic County Prosecutors Office is one of the 95 accredited law enforcementagencies among the more than 500 municipal, county, and state law enforcementagencies eligible to participate in the accreditation process. Accreditation is voluntary.

Accreditation by the Commission provides recognition of law enforcement professional

excellence by the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office.

In response to the commissions action, Acting Prosecutor McClain stated, We arevery proud and gratified as an agency to receive this recognition. This accreditationrecognizes that this agency is in compliance with the current best practices in lawenforcement in pursuing our mission of effectively and efficiently serving the people ofAtlantic County.

Accreditation is valid for a three-year period, during which time the Prosecutors Officemust submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with the standardsunder which accreditation was granted.
