MILANOFASHIONTRENDS
The trend toward rigidity is waning. It’s time for softness.
The women’s 2011 fashion shows in Milan featured light, lively, simple styles. Fashion is moving toward a more relaxed look that highlights extremely natural elegance.
Clothing has softer lines due to plissé, draping and ruffles, all of which create movement. Today’s fabrics are ephemeral, light and airy, even transparent in many cases. The look is fluid and soft.
Colors are kaleidoscopic. Often they transition from very light shades to more intense and brighter colors; some looks combine colors in geometric, floral and animal patterns that convey a truly playful spirit. Men’s fashion, too, is spirited and conveys a sense of easy living; these are styles for laid-back men who are devoted to leisure and want clothes that are easy to wear.

For women who dress with a feminine kind of elegance, the 2011 collections offer clothes that settle around the body like soft clouds and wrap the wearer in plissé, ruffles and draping. The colors turn to soft and pastel shades, especially various shades of gray and true white. Fabrics such as silk and organza skim the body like veils, and when in motion they play off each other with light and layering.

This style references the colors and the transparency of the sea, as well as the life in its depths. The blues are intense and appear in every facet of the wardrobe. The fabrics have iridescent, mother-of-pearl and metallic finishes, with patterns that reference shells and tropical fish. This style is perfect for a woman who sees herself as a modern-day mermaid and likes to create her own elegant style with contemporary accents.

THE LOOKFor this look, hair is treated as if it were a textured fabric. The recommended coloring techniques play off the style’s shimmer and shell shapes and highlight all the various tones of mother-of-pearl and light gray. There are clear-cut variations in tone, but they work together seamlessly, and the various shades accent the cut, making it look even sharper and neater.

2011 fashions are all about lightness, represented here by blurry, soft colors that look like watercolors and appear to have been faded by the sun and by the passage of time. This is the Watercolor style. It can be seen in fabrics treated to look broken in, such as denim. Pieces made of these fabrics play off of their original colors with a multitude of different shades, and any patterns are so soft-edged that they resemble Impressionist paintings. W

THE LOOKColor plays a key role in creating a feeling of volume. Hair is colored to look as if it has been lightened by the sun. The base color is lighter at the ends, which makes the hair framing the face, appear fuller. The interplay of copper and gold, interspersed with each other, creates movement and makes this style look effortless.
THE CUSTOMERThis look is for women with long hair who have been coloring their hair for some time or those who want to experiment with color for the first time.
“WATERCOLOR” ACCESSORIES Very long gold and silver necklaces, or wood and stone necklaces with medallions and pendants or even fringe or feathers.
SUggESTED MAkE-UP• Lips should be neatly drawn in bright, intense, eye-catching colors• Eyes are barely made up and delicately shaded • False lash effect
HOME CARESemi di Lino Diamante Color Protection• Shampoo• Conditioner• Crystals
Semi di Lino Diamante Illuminating• Smoothing Cream• Finish

Men’s fashion has achieved a new comfortable style that’s all about being relaxed and less stiff. The sharp lines of yesterday’s suits have softened and gained fluidity, resulting in extremely wearable clothes. The look is casual, even slightly scruffy, but still elegant, resulting in a fresh, youthful feel. And the classic colors are back: Blue and gray appear in myriad shades and combinations.

THE LOOKThe classic dandy style is breaking with tradition to become fresh and exciting. Prominent highlights stand in contrast to longer sections of hair that separate from the whole like waves breaking in a storm. Styling is purposefully messy for a casual and youthful look.
THE CUSTOMERThis look is for younger customers, who are always looking to change and can pull off a strong look. For an older clientele, the style can also be toned down with less distinct highlights.
MEN’S ACCESSORIESIn 2011, the old-fashioned, hard-sided briefcase will be out. Fashionable men will be carrying very large bags, some large enough to serve as weekend bags. These are made of soft leather, suede or fabric and hold everything, including cell phones and computers.
