Act 59


An Act to make provision for changes in title and other mattersconsequential on the conferment of the status of a City on the

Municipality of the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur.

[1 February 1972]

BE IT ENACTED by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-PertuanAgong with the advice and consent of the Dewan Negara andDewan Rakyat in Parliament assembled, and by the authority ofthe same, as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the City of Kuala Lumpur Act 1971.

Change of title

2. The Corporation established under the Municipal Ordinanceof the Straits Settlements [S.S. Cap.133] and styled theMunicipality of the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur andadministered under the Federal Capital Act 1960 [Act 190], shall

be styled Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur or the City of KualaLumpur.

Saving of rights and duties of Commissioner and other persons

3. (1) The coming into force of this Act shall be withoutprejudice to the Commissioner of the Federal Capital or any otherpersons lawfully appointed or nominated, as the case may be, atthe date of the coming into force of this Act holding office, who,from the said date shall, as Commissioner or other officesrespectively, have and exercise all the rights, duties, powers and

privileges formerly appertaining to any such office under theFederal Capital Act 1960 or any other written law and any by-lawsmade thereunder as if this Act had not been enacted.

(2) Nothing in this Act shall affect the validity or effect of anyaction, proceeding, conveyance, transfer, deed, transaction or actof any kind bona fide taken, entered into or done before thecoming into force of this Act by or against or in the name or on

behalf of the Municipality of the Federal Capital of KualaLumpur.

Amendment to titles

4. Unless there is something repugnant in the subject or context,in every written law

(a) references to the Municipality of the Federal Capitalof Kuala Lumpur shall be construed as references toBandaraya Kuala Lumpur or the City of KualaLumpur;

(b) references to the Municipal Office or to the Officeof the Commissioner shall be construed as referencesto Dewan Bandaraya or the City Hall;

(c) references to Municipal in relation to the Federal

Capital of Kuala Lumpur shall be construed asreferences to Bandaraya or City; and

(d) references to the Commissioner of the FederalCapital of Kuala Lumpur shall be construed asreferences to Dato Bandar Kuala Lumpur or theCommissioner of the City of Kuala Lumpur.

Operation of Federal Capital Act 1960

5. Save as hereinbefore provided, nothing in this Act shall affectthe operation of the Federal Capital Act 1960.
