The famous balcony scene reinforces the themes of society and the private love of R&J

The lovers are isolated from the forces of society (Verona & Fate) which will eventually destroy them both in the end

In the day-world of Verona, the lovers find darkness;

In the Italian night, the lovers find lyric expression and light for their love

They are light to each other in a world of darkness

R&J’S LOVE

Romeo’s idea of love has not changed and he is still in love with the idea of love (exaggeration / hyperboles) – says Juliet is more radiant than the moon

Juliet is more concerned with the essentials of their relationship (is she too easily won? / Are Romeo’s intentions genuine?
