    Every day I receive correspondence from Dealers,and that is something I truly enjoy. Most of this cor-respondence concerns positive experiences people

    have had with our products. I hear stories aboutimproved fuel economy, money saved throughextended drain intervals or just better running equip-ment. Some Dealers write just to introduce them-selves, which in many cases is the beginning of newfriendships for me. The few complaints I receive I takevery seriously and do what is necessary to get theissues resolved.

    It may be, however, that the correspondence Ienjoy most is from those Dealers seeking advice. I cantell they are serious about becoming successful intheir AMSOIL businesses and that carries a lot ofweight with me. If a Dealer is willing to put in the

    effort, so am I. I suppose it stems from my career asa squadron commander. If I could see that one of myfighter pilots had the sincere desire to be as good ashe could be, I would go the extra mile with him. Hemay not have been my most skilled pilot, but if thedetermination and desire was there, Id work to makehim the best he could possibly be. It gave me atremendous amount of pleasure to see the confi-dence grow in my pilots as I trained and encour-aged them. And believe me, a lot of those guysbecame darn good fighter pilots.

    Its no different than my role as president ofAMSOIL. Of course, I cant personally train each andevery AMSOIL Dealer, but I can certainly providemy advice and encouragement. It may be that a newDealer lacks confidence in his or her sales skills. Or itmay be that he or she is unsure of his or her abilityto learn about the products or the principles of lubri-cation. Or maybe they are threatened by the lack ofstability in their current jobs, want to move on, but

    need assurance that their futures will be secure withAMSOIL.

    In all cases, I inform these Dealers that, withoutquestion, they can succeed in their AMSOIL busi-nesses. It wont be easy, but nothing of importanceever is. There is going to be some rough times, and asan AMSOIL Dealer youll face obstacles every day. Youmust rise to the occasion and face those obstacleshead-on.

    In many respects your AMSOIL business is notunlike any other business opportunity. When Istarted this company I never claimed to be thesmartest guy in the world. What I did have was a

    boat-load of common sense and determination. Ihad a burning desire to succeed. I could have closedthe doors when the other oil companies failed torecognize my new oil as legitimate. But I believedin the product and pushed forward. I could havefolded the company when Pennzoil sued me for theZ in the original AMSOIL name. I didnt. And Icould have packed it in when another MLM companysued me for the AM in AMSOIL. I battled them forseven and a half years to the tune of about $100,000per month, which I could barely afford, but nevergave up. I could give countless examples.

    And the obstacles remain today. Were constantlyfighting for the lowest costs on the chemicals wepurchase. Supply issues are a major concern. We facea never-ending battle to ensure our products arebetter than the competition. Were constantly testingand reformulating to meet the ever-changing speci-fication demands placed on us by vehicle and equip-ment manufactures. And we have to find ways tomaintain quality in the face of government regula-tions. The list goes on, and even though I have tal-ented people working with me it continues to bedifficult.

    The point is, as business owners we have to workthrough each and every challenge we face. This isespecially important for new Dealers. When you feelyou are up against it and there seems to be no hope,hang in there. If you really want it bad enough, youcan make it happen.

    Sometimes AMSOIL customers learn more than oncethe true value and quality of AMSOIL products.

    Dealer Bruce Kintner of Cold Spring, Ky. related thestories of two of his customers who learned about thebenefits of using AMSOIL, not once, but twice.

    Jim Hasken of Florence, Ky. bought a new HondaAccord Coupe with a V-6 engine and manual trans-mission in 2003.

    Jim is not a do-it-yourself type, and uses a localHonda dealer for his service needs, Kintner said.Hasken installed AMSOIL XL 5W-20 (XLM) in theHonda at about 15,000 miles.

    Haskens fuel economy improved by more thantwo miles per gallon, or 8 to 9 percent. Jim was verypleased, and was perhaps even more pleased withbeing able to go 7,500 miles between oil changes,instead of 3,750 miles as recommended by the Hondadealer, Kintner said.

    Hasken replaced the factory-installed transmissionfluid in the Honda with AMSOIL 5W-30 SyntheticManual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) whenit was closing in on 30,000 miles. Hasken had said thetransmission shifted smoothly except during theupshift from four to five in the six speed manual. He

    could feel a little hitch or catch, Kintner said. TheHonda dealer said there was nothing that could bedone about it. However, as soon as the AMSOIL MTFwas installed, the hitch-catch went away. Again, Jimwas very pleased, Kintner said.

    At 60,000 miles, Hasken took his Honda to thedealer for servicing, but forgot the Honda dealer would

    drain the transmission fluid as part of the servicing.Hasken left the dealer with fresh Honda-specifiedmanual transmission fluid, and the hitch-catch was

    back. Hasken quickly contacted Kintner and rein-stalled AMSOIL MTF. Once MTF was back in, thehitch-catch was gone, Kintner said.

    Another Kintner customer, Eric Driscoll, Hebron,Ky., bought an early 90s Lexus LS400 in 2005 after hisbeloved BMW 5 series was totaled in an accident.

    After having the Lexus several months, Driscolldecided to convert the drivetrain fluids to AMSOIL,even though it had more than 170,000 miles. Driscollexperienced an improvement of almost three miles pergallon, a more than 10 percent increase, after switch-ing to AMSOIL Synthetic Manual Transmission andTransaxle Gear Lube (MTG), AMSOIL ATF and AMSOIL5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (ASL).

    In early 2007, Driscoll drained the oil from theLexus as part of routine servicing and discovered hedidnt have enough ASL to refill the engine. He stillhad enough Castrol synthetic left over from having theBMW, so he installed it in the Lexus, Kintner said.Within two tanks of gas, Eric had lost more thantwo mpg. After only a few weeks, Driscoll reinstalledthe AMSOIL ASL and again the miles per gallonincreased to what he had originally experienced withAMSOIL in the vehicle.

    Eric has proven to himself yet again that AMSOILis the best, Kintner said.

    A great deal of emphasis is placed on the importance ofusing the most advanced high-quality lubricants, butsuperior filtration is often taken for granted. The generalattitude displayed by many consumers is to use whateveris cheapest, even when theyve invested in superior lubri-cation. While AMSOIL synthetic motor oils provide unbeat-able protection, performance and economy, they requirethe assistance of filtration. Without filtration, by-productsfrom the combustion process and abrasive materialsingested from the air will ultimately destroy an engine.

    Some Contaminants Cause More DamageThe level of damage particles cause to an engine is directlyrelated to the size of the particles. The oil stream within the

    engine flows between wear-sensitive surfaces that usuallyhave clearances of between 2 and 22 microns. It is con-taminants in this size range that pose the greatest threatas they can slip between moving components, causing agreat deal of wear.

    To appreciate how small these particles are, one mustfirst understand the measurements involved in theirclassification.

    A micron, or micrometer (), is a very small unit oflinear measurement. One micron is equal to one millionthof a meter, and 25 microns isequal to 0.001 inch. To betterput this in perspective, con-sider that the diameter of a

    human hair is 50 - 70microns.

    Large particles are par-ticles measuring 12 or larger.They pose little threat toengines because they areeasily removed by the airfilter.

    Medium particlesare particles measuring25 to 12. While they areof greater concern thanlarge particles becausethey are more difficult to

    remove, the threat theypose is diminished since

    they are still larger than many ofthe clearances within anengine. Their size will not allowthem to enter the contact areasbetween many components topromote accelerated wear.

    25. Small particles are of greatest concern because theycan penetrate the clearances between wear-sensitivecomponents and promote accelerated wear. And, becausethey are so small, they are difficult to remove from the oilstream.

    SAE TestingIn the 1988 Correlating Lube Oil Filtration Efficiencies WithEngine Weartechnical paper published by the Society ofAutomotive Engineers (SAE), the relationship between oilfiltration levels and abrasive engine wear was established.Testing determined that wear was reduced by as much as70 percent by switching from a 40 filter to a 15 filter.

    The SAE conducted tests on a heavy-duty diesel engine

    and an automotive gasoline engine, and both providedconsistent results.

    New Technology Provides New OptionsThe SAE paper on filtration discusses the introduction ofsynthetic fibers into the oil filter market, which offer thecapability of achieving high levels of filtration without thetraditional sacrifice of dirt holding capacity and increasedflow restriction. Today, a new pinnacle has been reachedwith synthetic nanofiber technology and AMSOIL Ea OilFilters. While todays filters offer even greater perfor-mance, the message then was the same as it is now;removal of particles measuring 2 to 25 is the key tocontrolling engine wear, and there is a direct correlation

    between oil filter efficiency and engine wear.Test ResultsTo establish a relationship between levels of filtration andengine wear rates, the SAE used a variety of oil filtertypes in its tests. Three glass filters and one traditional cel-lulose-media filter were used in the diesel tests, whileone cellulose, one glass and two glass/cellulose-blend fil-ters were used in the gasoline engine tests. The micronrating of each oil filter was determined, and testing wasconducted according to SAE guidelines.

    osts, Extended Equipment Life

    filters were tested at their 98 percent efficiency point andtheir single pass efficiency curves were determined bycomparing the number of particles upstream from thefilter with the number of particles downstream. The EngineWear Rates charts demonstrate the correlation betweensuperior oil filtration and reduced engine wear. The filtersthat provided superior efficiency also provided superiorengine protection.

    ConclusionsThe SAE paper summarizes the test results with the fol-lowing conclusions:

    Abrasive engine wear can be substantially reducedwith an increase in filter single pass efficiency. Comparedto a 40 filter, engine wear was reduced by 50% with 30filtration. Likewise, wear was reduced by 70% with 15filtration.

    Controlling the abrasive contaminants in the rangeof 2 to 22 in the lube oil is necessary for controllingengine wear.

    The micron rating of a filter, as established in a singlepass efficiency type test, does an excellent job in indicatingthe filters ability to remove abrasive particles in the enginelube oil system.

    Todays Most Advanced Filtration ProductEa Oil Filters have been evaluated using todays bench-

    mark test, the ISO 4548-12 multi-pass test. AMSOIL Ea OilFilters provide 98.7 percent efficiency at 15 and up to 70percent efficiency at 7. Competitive filters range fromapproximately 85 to 92 percent efficiency at 15. When itcomes to removing contaminants in the most critical sizerange (2 to 22), AMSOIL Ea Filters greatly outperformcompetitive filters.

    SummaryEven with all of the advances in lubrication and enginetechnology, filtration is as important today as it ever was.The combustion process produces by-products that slipinto the oil stream, and external contaminants are intro-duced into the engine in a variety of ways. The challenge

    for filter manufacturers is balancing flow, efficiency andfilter life. In order to stop particles in the 2 to 22 range,the pores in the cellulose media used in many filters aretoo small to allow adequate oil flow.

    Only AMSOIL Ea Oil and Air Filters feature full-syntheticnanofiber technology. It is the nanofibers that allow EaFilters to provide greater efficiency than any other filteravailable. Ea Filters stop more particles, stop smaller par-ticles and last longer than any other filters available forauto/light truck applications.

    stamped and envelopes ready to mail after the show, saidNorm. At the show, I work on selling product and gettingpeople interested in being a Preferred Customer or Dealer,and Barbara does the necessary paperwork to set upthe accounts.

    Successful husband and wife Dealer teams do not just

    appear, they are cultivated. Working a trade show or raceevent is a lot of work and sometimes either the husbandor the wife simply does not have the time to commit dueto family or work conflicts. When they began their AMSOILbusiness, Regency Platinum Direct Jobbers Davidand Carol Bell did not always work shows togetherbecause Carol had a full-time teaching job. As their busi-ness grew, they decided it was time to devote them-selves completely to their AMSOIL business and theyhavent looked back. Now that our business is very suc-cessful, coupled with the fact that we need each other tobe the most effective at trade shows, we go to all eventsas a husband and wife team, said David.

    Marty and Lori Gilmore, Premiere Direct Jobbers inNew York, took a different approach. When they firststarted working trade shows, they worked every eventtogether. Now, according to Marty, Lori has steppedback a little bit by only attending shows during peakhours, while our son works the entire show with me.

    Even though each couple takes a different approach totheir roles at events and participates at different levels, allstrongly believe in the importance of having a teamapproach to their AMSOIL businesses. We started ourAMSOIL business together and we both signed the DealerApplication to show our commitment to our new busi-ness, said David Bell. We constantly work together, wego to and hold training classes together and we share

    equally in the rewards and recognition of our AMSOILbusiness. Mike and Linda Ford credit their husband-wife team approach for helping them reach the PremiereDirect Jobber level quickly. According to Norm andBarbara Ayres, AMSOIL is a team program. All the wayfrom Al Amatuzio to David and Carol Bell, we truly have agreat team. We try to emulate this with our downlines andas a result, our whole team is there when we need them.

    The team mentality has brought great success to hus-band and wife teams since the beginning of AMSOIL andthere are no signs that this approach will do anything butcontinue to bring prosperity to those who truly and dili-gently embrace it.

    The purpose of the AMSOIL marketing plan is toprovide a sound business opportunity for the AMSOILDealer network. AMSOIL provides numerous pro-grams and support mechanisms designed to helpDealers build their businesses. Although every pro-gram provides a valuable way to build a successfulAMSOIL Dealership, the best way to build a stablebusiness and income is through the sponsorshipand training of new AMSOIL Dealers.

    Each sales program supports the philosophy thatsponsoring and training new Dealers is the most

    effective way to build a sound business. AMSOIL rec-ommends new Dealers start building their businessesby selling through the Personal Retail Sales Program,moving along the other programs outlined below asthey gain sales experience.

    1) Personal Retail Sales ProgramSome Dealers stock an inventory of products to ser-vice their retail customers, or they place orders asnecessary to service them. Personal retail customerstypically consist of local family, friends, acquain-tances and neighbors. Selling to personal retail cus-tomers is an excellent way for new Dealers to learnhow to sell AMSOIL products.

    2) Catalog ProgramThe Catalog Program is ideal for customers who arenot located in the servicing Dealers local area, arenot interested in a Dealership or are comfortableservicing themselves. Catalog customers may requiresome assistance placing orders, and it is a goodidea to follow up either over the telephone or with apersonal visit. Once their purchases reach $100 ayear, encourage catalog customers to becomePreferred Customers.

    3) Internet Program

    Like the Catalog Program, the Internet Program isideal for customers who are outside the servicingDealers local area, do not want a Dealership or canservice themselves. Dealers simply link their Dealerwebsites to the AMSOIL Online Store, providing cus-tomers with the convenience of ordering over theInternet and crediting the Dealer with the retail prof-its and commission credits. AMSOIL offers websitepackages to help Dealers take advantage of thisprogram.

    4) Preferred Customer ProgramThe Preferred Customer Program provides cost sav-ings to customers purchasing $100 or more in prod-uct per year. Preferred Customers also receive themonthly Action News magazine, ensuring they arekept up-to-date on the latest AMSOIL news andproduct introductions. Preferred Customers are typ-ically able to service themselves, but it is a good ideato follow up with them in order to answer any ques-tions. Because the Preferred Customer Programexposes them to the business opportunity, Preferred

    Customers are an excellent source of new Dealers.

    5) Dealer ProgramThe Dealer Program is for people who are immedi-ately interested in developing their own home-basedbusinesses or who become interested in the businessopportunity after experiencing the benefits of AMSOILproducts. In order to build a strong, successful busi-ness, it is important to sponsor and train as manynew Dealers as possible.

    6) Commercial ProgramThe Commercial Program allows Dealers to sell

    AMSOIL products to businesses for use in theirequipment. It can be as simple as registering a flowershop owner with delivery vans or as in-depth as reg-istering an over-the-road trucking fleet. Becauseregistering commercial accounts often requires tech-nical knowledge, it is highly recommended Dealersreceive training beyond what the G-700 BusinessManual provides, such as attending AMSOILUniversity, taking the home study courses or work-ing with an experienced Dealer.

    7) Retail-on-the-Shelf ProgramThe Retail-on-the-Shelf Program allows Dealers tooffer AMSOIL products through retail outlets andservice centers, making AMSOIL products readilyavailable for customers who are not interested inthe Catalog, Preferred Customer or Dealer programsor wish to have AMSOIL products installed for themat a quick lube facility. Accounts that carry AMSOILproducts increase brand awareness and provide ini-tial education of customers who may later participatein another AMSOIL program for lower prices, accessto the full product line or to take advantage of thebusiness opportunity.

    When including the number of people who are fluentin Spanish as a second language, the total numberof Spanish speakers in the world is well over 400 mil-lion, making it the fourth most spoken language inthe world. Up to one-quarter of these Spanishspeakers reside in the United States, with nearly100 million people having at least a basic knowledgeof Spanish. Because of this, AMSOIL has recog-nized the importance of providing Dealers with thetools necessary to reach out to this booming marketsegment.

    Market PotentialIn the United States alone, the Hispanic populationrepresents a combined purchasing power of around$600 billion. A recent consumer expenditure surveyfound Hispanic households spend more on gro-ceries, footwear, mens and childrens clothing,gasoline and motor oil and household textiles thanthe non-Hispanic population. All of this informationpoints to the potential for Dealers to significantlyexpand their businesses and increase sales.

    Overcoming Language BarriersIt can be intimidating to approach potential cus-tomers who do not speak English. However, ifAMSOIL Dealers want to be competitive in todays

    markets, that fear must be conquered. There are afew techniques Dealers can employ to find waysaround language barriers. First, set a goal for 2007to sign up a new AMSOIL Dealer who is bilingual.This may sound like a lofty task, but it will prove tobenefit all parties involved. If Dealers have onemember of their personal group who is bilingual, thepossibilities for sales increase exponentially.

    AMSOIL Dealers can also identify businessowners in the area who are bilingual and set them upto sell and promote AMSOIL products. Thisapproach helps spread the AMSOIL image in mul-tiple communities and can lead to future sales.

    AMSOIL hired a Spanish Marketing Coordinatorwho provides Dealers with updated bilingual litera-ture. Look for more translated literature items in thecoming months.

    AMSOIL Spanish Retail CatalogThe Spanish Retail Catalog (G-100S) has beenupdated and is now available for purchase. Likethe G-100, the G-100S features the entire AMSOILline of products, application guides and severalpromotional products. Unlike the G-100, however,the G-100S contains no pricing information. SpanishCatalog prices lists are available for Dealers to pur-chase as a supplement to the G-100S. The catalogprice lists have the products listed with their sug-gested retail prices. Not listing pricing in theG-100S allows the catalog to be used in the U.S.,Canada and Puerto Rico as a general sales toolappropriate for potential Dealers, PreferredCustomers, commercial accounts and retail-on-the-shelf accounts.

    Ordering information is not included in the G-100S,

    making the role of the Dealer especially crucial. Atthis point, AMSOIL does not have the capability totake orders from customers who speak Spanish,so orders from Spanish-speaking customers have tobe placed through their Dealers.

    The updated G-100S offers Dealers the excitingpossibility to reach out to a rapidly growing marketsegment.

    The 2007 AMSOIL University was a great successfor AMSOIL Dealers and employees. Among themany activities planned for this years U was thereturn of the Tuesday night barbeque and race

    night. The AMSOIL Race Department worked hardto bring in 15 corporately sponsored race teams withtheir 22 vehicles and 16 drivers.

    This is the greatest collection of AMSOIL-spon-sored race teams ever assembled under one roof,said Jeremy Meyer, AMSOIL Racing Coordinator.We had teams traveling from races on the eastand west coasts because they wanted to take partin this event and tell their stories to AMSOIL Dealersand employees.

    Dealers and employees saw five stock cars,seven off-road trucks, a bass boat, two snowmo-biles, one dirt bike, three monster trucks, two RinkerF1 Champ boats and the unveiling of the Bob

    Teague off-shore power boat. All of the drivers wereon hand to sign autographs and talk about theirteams and the many AMSOIL products they use incompetition.

    We love coming up to AMSOIL each year for thisevent, said World Champion off-road truck racerScott Douglas. We are amazed at the extensivecommitment AMSOIL continues to make to its raceteams. The Dealers are so enthusiastic about every-thing we do and the success that weve had, and allof the teams feed off that energy. I know my teamwill take this energy back to the shop and use it tobring AMSOIL another championship.
