Emergency ac*ons
Reconstruc;on of the most vital flood protec;on infrastructure – Embankments on the Sava and Drina rivers – Channels in the Bjeljina Region – Pumping sta;ons – Stabiliza;on of river beds – In total cca 15 mill. €
What to do for future?
• Flood protec;on system in BiH has to be improved
• Coordinated and Harmonised approach • Coopera;on with neighbouring countries and interna;onal organiza;ons (ICPDR, Sava Commission, WMO) is important

• Goals: – reconstruct the damages on protec;on facili;es and watercourses caused by the floods, erosions and torrents in 2014,
– harmonize the flood protec;on system with the EU legisla;on, – establish a more reliable hydrological forecast system in BiH, – create condi;ons for the sustainability of the flood protec;on system and strengthen inter-‐sector coopera;on and coordina;on in BiH and the region,
– con;nue with the ac;vi;es on full implementa;on of the integrated water management principles
• 6 key measures and 23 sub-‐measures (short term and medium term)
• Es;mated financial costs for the implementa;on of AP is 303 mil. €
• 136,6 mill. € secured so far, addi;onal 51 mill. € should be available in 2015 (61.9%)

• Measure 1: Reconstruc;on of damages caused by floods and erosion in 2014 – embankments, water channel network, pumping sta;ons, river beds and debris, widening river profiles, erosions
• Measure 2: Harmoniza;on of the BiH flood protec;on system with the EU Direc;ve 2007/60/EC on the assessment and management of flood risks – Preliminary flood risk assessment, Flood hazard and flood risk maps, Flood Risk Management Plans, exchange of informa;on, consulta;on, public par;cipa;on

• Measure 3: Adop;on of new technical solu;ons for the protec;on from floods and erosion in the towns and villages that had no water protec;on facili;es, and construc;on of new facili;es – Construc;on of new water protec;on facili;es in resid.areas, prepara;on of technical documenta;on
• Measure 4: Establishment of a hydrological monitoring system in BiH – Monitoring network, hydrological forecas;ng models for river basins, exchange of informa;on

• Measure 5: Strengthening of the ins;tu;onal capaci;es for WM, coordina;on and coopera;on with other BiH ins;tu;ons, relevant par;cipa;on in interna;onal bodies – Strengthening capaci;es (HRM, training, equipment, finac. sustainability), coordina;on, implementa;on of leg.framework (urban planning, forestry, energy, protec;on and rescue), beder implementa;on of interna;onal agreements
• Measure 6: Water Management – harmoniza;on of the legal framework for WM with EU acquis , adop;on or RBMPs and coord inated implementa;on, water protec;on measures in high-‐risk areas
