To take up 2-3 burning issues in agriculture front of the district and work on it and publish the issues in various media
KVK has worked on the burning issues viz, soil and water conservation, rain water harvesting, alternate land use system and organic farming. KVK has disseminated these technologies through Trainings, Radio talks & TV interviews of farmers and through publications
KVK to provide information on seed production activities of KVK and farmers in the SAC meeting
The information on seed production activities of KVK and farmer was presented in SAC meeting held on 21.02.2013
To provide one page information to farmers on technology and economics of the technology demonstrated in FLD plots during field days
The suggestion has been implemented
3
Major recommendations Status of action taken in brief

To disseminate Soil and Water Conservation technology in large number Large number of farmers were benefited during the exhibition on Soil & Water conservation technology during technology week (23-28, January, 2013)
Documentation of technology disseminateion KVK has published 6 case studies/impact studies to document technology dissemination. The documentation about CSV-22 variety of rabi sorghum is in progress
To send list of progressive farmer to AIR, Dharwad for organizing farmer interview
List of 100 progressive farmers was sent to AIR, Dharwad
3.2 Major recommendations made in the SAC meeting held on 21-02-2013
Major recommendations Action to be taken in brief
The previous year (2011-12) and this year (2012-13) were drought years in Gadag district. In view of this, the members suggested to test viable & profitable crops under drought situation such as redgram, castor and safflower
Front Line Demonstrations on redgram and safflower will be taken up during the coming year 2013-14
Castor will be demonstrated in KVK farm during next year
Grow bittergourd, cucumber, ridgegourd etc., during Kharif season and these will help in maximum harvesting of rainwater during late Kharif. This in turn helps to get good rabi crop as there is sufficient moisture conserved in the soil during late Kharif rainy days. This demonstration may be carried out in one of the cluster villages.
Since this technology is not yet tested in Gadag district, it will be tried first in KVK farm during coming year 2013-14
Take all possible observations and data while assessing Kadiri-6 groundnut variety in comparison with TMV-2 and GPBD-4 and to present the data and photographs in next NARP Kharif season meeting.
It will be carried out during Kharif season of 2013-14
Use Calcium Chloride and Trichoderma seed treatment for control of wilt disease in bengalgram crop under FLD which can help in tolerating drought and thereby reduce the incidence of wilt disease.
It will be carried out during Rabi season of 2013-14
4
Major recommendations Action to be taken in brief
Promote medicinal plants especially Ashwagandha by putting demonstrations if the buy-back arrangement is available.
FLDs on Ashwagandha will be taken up during rabi season of 2013-14
Put drumstick as an intercrop in Banana plantation as it fetches more income if any farmer comes forward in Shirunja and Kadakol cluster
KVK will impart the knowledge by working out economics of Banana and Drumstick intercrop. If any farmer comes forward, the demonstration will be put up.
Develop more number of fodder banks in farmers’ fields so as to supply the slips of various grasses and fodder crops to different departments.
KVK will put up more fodder banks in farmers’ fields.
Demonstrate one model Terrace Gardening in Hulkoti village to popularize it in Hulkoti cluster villages.
It will be carried out during next year 2013-14 during Kharif 2013-14
Demonstrate a fodder crop which is equivalent to fodder quality of spreading groundnut in view of recurring drought conditions wherein spreading groundnut crop is continuously failing to yield anything since three years.
Discussion will be made with Scientists of Regional Research Station, IGFRI, Dharwad. The suggested crops will be demonstrated in KVK farm.
Update information about availability of seeds and seedlings on weekly basis in KVK website
It will be carried out.
Enter all income and expenditure items in computer data base on daily basis w.r.t farm and demonstration units. Use this data for future planning of farm activities.
It will be carried out.
Construct rain water recharging units for borewell rejuvenations in 3 cluster of villages
It was carried out during March 2013.
In view of disease outbreak or sudden fall in market price, it is wise to develop mixed fruit orchard instead of only mango orchard.
It will be carried out during the year 2013-14.
In view of recurring droughts, try cluster bean (Gaur) varieties meant for gum preparation in KVK farm by taking details from UAS, Raichur
It will be carried out during the year 2013-14.
Provide one Spiral Separator to each cluster. It will be carried out during the year 2013-14.
The other KVKs, especially Bidar and Gulburga have proposed some modifications to Spiral Separator with respect to height. Keeping this in view, it was suggested to make note of the feedback of farmers during demonstrations, so that the required refinement can be suggested to manufacturer of Spiral Separator.
Accordingly it will be carried out during the year 2013-14.
Study the impact of fodder banks established by KVK during previous years which shall include the number of slips distributed to fellow farmers in the adopted cluster villages
It will be carried out during the year 2013-14.
Formulate suitable programmes and activities to attract and retain youths in agriculture by providing sustainable livelihood development plans
Suitable programmes and activities are formulated and included in the Action Plan for the year 2013-14.
