Activation conditionsThe power take-off is protected during activation by permanent protective conditions and by selectable protective conditions that can be adapted to suit the equipment be-ing operated.

Permanent protective conditionsOne of the following two combinations of conditions must be fulfilled to allow the function to be activated:

    • Engine running, engine speed above 10 rpm• Vehicle stationary, propeller shaft speed below 10 rpm• Air pressure above 0.5 MPa (5 bar)• Clutch depressed at least 2.5 s (does not apply to vehicles with fully automated

    Opticruise)

    or

    • Engine off, engine speed 0 rpm• Vehicle stationary, propeller shaft speed below 10 rpm• Air pressure above 0.5 MPa (5 bar)

Selectable protective conditions:• Parking brake applied• Gearbox in neutral. A separate neutral position sensor is required for manual gear-

boxes.• Upper engine speed limit for activation• Lower engine speed limit for activation• Upper vehicle speed limit for activation• Lower vehicle speed limit for activation

  • Activation of an EG power take-off via BWSFunctions, general

More information on the CAN bodywork interface can be found in the section CAN bodywork interface.

ActivationIf the activation conditions have been fulfilled, the function can be activated in one of the following ways:

    • +24 V to pin 2 (EG1) or pin 1 (EG2) in connector C493 in the bodywork console. Selected by setting the parameter Selection of signal input for activation of power take-off 2 to Active high.

    • Grounding of pin 4 (EG1) or pin 3 (EG2) in connector C493 in the bodywork con-sole. Selected by setting the parameter Selection of signal input for activation of power take-off 2 to Active low.

    • Via external CAN. Selected by setting the parameter Selection of signal input for activation of power take-off 2 to CAN.

Manual activation, Automatic activation or Drive position activation is selected us-ing the parameter Type of activation (Power take-off 2).

Manual activationFor manual activation of the function, fulfilment of conditions and the signal from the switch must come in a specific order. The protective conditions (except for Clutch depressed) must be fulfilled before the switch is set to ON. The power take-off is activated in one of the following ways:

    • If the engine is off, the power take-off is activated immediately.• If the engine is running, the power take-off is not activated until the clutch is de-

pressed (does not apply to vehicles with fully automated Opticruise).

If the switch is already ON when the protective conditions are fulfilled, the switch must be reset to OFF and then set to ON again to activate the power take-off when the clutch is depressed.

Automatic activationFor automatic activation of the function, the starter key must be turned to the drive position before the switch is set to ON. Once other protective conditions have been met, the power take-off is activated.

Drive position activationDuring drive position activation of the function, all protective conditions, apart from the ignition key in the drive position, must be fulfilled. The power take-off is activat-ed by turning the switch to ON and by turning the starter key to the drive position, in any order.

If the switch is ON and the starter key is in the drive position when the protective conditions are fulfilled, one of them must be reset and then set to ON or the drive po-sition again to activate the power take-off.

Deactivation conditionsTo protect equipment there are selectable conditions for deactivating the power take-off. These conditions are selected through the following adjustable parameters:

    • Upper deactivation limit, engine speed• Lower deactivation limit, engine speed• Upper deactivation limit, vehicle speed • Lower deactivation limit, vehicle speed• Conditions for applied parking brake• Neutral position conditions. A separate neutral position sensor is required for

    manual gearboxes.

DeactivationThe function is deactivated in one of the following ways:

    • The connection with connector C493 pin 1, 2, 3 or 4 (depending on the connection option) is cut off with the switch.

    • Via a message on the external CAN• One of the deactivation conditions is fulfilled.

MiscellaneousInformation that the power take-off is activated is sent to other control units and is also displayed in the instrument cluster. If several power take-offs are being used, the indicator shows that one of the power take-offs is activated, no matter which one. The adjustable parameters can be used to activate separate indicator lamps for several power take-offs.

If several power take-offs are being used, the indicator shows that a power take-off is active, no matter which one.

An indication that a power take-off is activated can also be displayed with the body-work indicator lamps on the bottom left in the newer instrument cluster. This indica-tion requires that the adjustable parameter Light indication (indicator lamp) for power take-off 1 or 2 is set to With.

Output signalThe output signal that controls the solenoid on the power take-off comes through connector C493 pin 14 for BWS/Power take-off 1 and connector C493 pin 15 for BWS/Power take-off 2.

Information that the power take-off is activated is obtained directly from the output signal that controls the solenoid or through an acknowledgement signal from a posi-tion sensor on the power take-off. Applies to vehicles manufactured from May 2006 onwards.

Cylinder balancingThe cylinder balancing function governs the quantity of fuel injected into each cyl-inder to reduce engine vibrations at low engine speeds. In certain cases, the load in combination with cylinder balancing can cause engine vibration to intensify. If this is the case the function can be deactivated by setting the adjustable parameter Cylin-der Balancing to Inactive using SDP3.

EG power take-off preparation from the factoryIf the vehicle is ordered with EG power take-off preparation from the factory, the connection is fully routed to connector C470 on the frame.

Note:If the vehicle is ordered with an EG power take-off from the factory together with preparation for another EG power take-off, the ground connection for the acknowl-edgement signal of the prepared power take-off is routed from connector C470 on the chassis. • If the factory-fitted power take-off is a side-mounted power take-off, the ground-

ing for the prepared power take-off is doubled on pin 3.• If the factory-fitted power take-off is a rear-mounted power take-off, the ground-

ing for the prepared power take-off is doubled on pin 6.• The acknowledgement signal is routed from the confirmation sensor to pin 7 of

    connector C470.

Vehicle with automatic activationIt is important that any acknowledgement signal is given correctly for power take-off activation to work.

Power take-off activation can take between 0 and approximately 5 seconds. Any de-lay is determined by outside factors. Example:

    • How quickly the gearbox shafts rotate• How hot the gearbox oil is

    • If an external CAN bodywork network is connected inside the cab, CAN low is connected to pin 20 in connector C259 and CAN high to pin 21 in connector C259.

    • If the CAN connection in connector C487 is not used by other nodes in the exter-nal CAN network, the factory-fitted jumper for CAN signals from connector C259 to connector C494 should be removed. See the document CAN bodywork interface.
