Level of DifficultyAll of our trips are graded for difficulty fromeasy to challenging. Easy can be definedas ranging from 3 to 5 hours of activity,with low levels of elevation. On moderatetrips, some days have longer excursionswith 5 to 6 hours of walking or cyclingand some higher elevations. Intermediatetours are more strenuous and they includea few longer ascents; some previous ex-perience is preferred. For our challengingtrips, you must be very fit and have a fairdegree of stamina. You will hike or bikefor about 8 hours on some days. Someprevious experience in either hiking or bik-ing longer mileage is recommended.

Cancellations, Refunds and ChangesIf you have to cancel your trip, Active Jour-neys Inc. must be notified in writing. Trip cancellation insurance is strongly rec-ommended and can be obtained throughActive Journeys Inc. Travel arrangementsthrough Active Journeys Inc. are sold as apackage and therefore we regret that therecan be no refunds on unused hotel rooms,meals, sightseeing, ground transportationor other services booked. There is an al-teration or change fee of $50 for changesto confirmed reservations if more than 61

days prior to departure. A late bookingfee of $50 will be charged to bookingsmade within 30 days of the departure date.

Single AccommodationsIf we cannot find a roommate for the de-parture on a scheduled group trip, we willcharge the single supplement. If single ac-commodations are requested, a single sup-plement fee will be charged automatically.

By PhoneWe can confirm your space only whenthe complete Reservation Form alongwith a deposit are received by mail orfax. You can charge your initial de-posit using Visa, Mastercard or Ameri-can Express. Please note that spaceavailability at the time of initial inquiryis not a guaranteed reservation.

By E-MailYou can communicate with us [email protected]. We will holdyour reservation for one week until thereservation form arrives at our officeas long as we have a credit cardguarantee. To reserve a space on any trip,complete the reservation form (on page39 or online at www.activejourneys.com)and return it to us along with a depositof $350 per person. The deposit canbe paid by credit card or personalcheck, payable to Active Journeys Inc.Upon receipt of deposit, a confirma-tion letter, pre-trip departure packet,insurance brochure and invoice will beforwarded to you. Please note that notrip is confirmed fully without a deposit.

PaymentsFinal payment by personal cheque isdue 60 days prior to departure (creditcards are accepted with a 3% process-ing charge). Failure to complete pay-ment 30 days prior to departure willbe considered notification of cancel-lation by default and is subject to can-cellation charges as outlined. About2-3 weeks prior to departure, any fi-nal documents and/or airline tickets(if applicable) will be sent out.

Cancellations By UsIf we are forced to cancel a trip due toinadequate trip participation or conditionsbeyond our control, our liability is limitedsolely to the cost of the land arrangements.Active Journeys Inc. cannot be responsi-ble for financial loss due to the impositionof a charge by airline carriers on partiallyor totally non-refundable tickets. It is oursincerest desire to operate all trip offeredin our brochure; consequently cancellationsby us are a matter of last resort. Refundslimited to the above conditions apply. Wewill transfer your payments to an alterna-tive trip if you so desire.

InsuranceWhile purchase of travel insurance is notmandatory to join one of our trips, westrongly suggest that you do so. We offera variety of plans to cover trip cancella-tions, interruption, accidental, medical andbaggage/personal effects. If insurance isdeclined, we will require a signed waiverof insurance. It is also advisable to checkyour current health insurance policy for itsapplication overseas.

Trip PlannerShortly after you make a reservation, youwill receive detailed trip notes that includea descriptive itinerary, information aboutarrival and departure, public transporta-tion, a clothing and equipment list andother pertinent information.

Medical RequirementsGood physical and mental health are es-sential for the enjoyment of these active,outdoor trips. By forwarding the Reserva-tion Form, the passenger certifies that he/she does not have any physical or othercondition of disability that would createhazard for himself/herself or other pas-sengers.

It is essential that any participant with amedical condition requiring regular treat-ment or which may be affected by rigor-ous activity, altitude, heat, cold, etc., notifyActive Journeys Inc. in writing in advanceof travel. Medical insurance is mandatoryfor these participants. The judgement ofthe local guide shall make the ultimatedetermination of an individual’s fitness toembark upon or continue a trip.

Therefore, it is understood inarranging tours, guides, meals, accom-modations and transportation, ActiveJourneys Inc. acts only as an agent inproviding services.

Active Journeys Inc. acts only as theagent for the passenger in regard totravel whether by railroad, motorcoach,

private car, bicycle, boat, aircraft or anyother conveyance, and assumes no li-ability for injury, damage, loss, accident,delay, irregularity or additional costsresulting directly or indirectly from anyof the following causes: weather, fail-ure of any means of transportation tocomply with schedules, quarantines,strikes, civil disturbances, theft, govern-ment regulations or changes in transportor lodging beyond the reasonable con-trol of Active Journeys Inc.

The company and its owners cannot beliable for any delay, mishap, inconven-ience, expense, irregularity, or damagethrough the negligence or default of anycompany or individual engaged in provid-ing these services. We reserve the right tochange any itinerary at any time when itis deemed advisable for the safety of thegroup or to comply with governmental re-strictions. Active Journeys Inc. also reservesthe right to cancel any trip prior to depar-ture upon the refund of all payments re-ceived, which shall release Active JourneysInc. from any further liability.
