Egersund chocolate factory

Egersund Chokoladefabrik & Co is a local attraction in a slightly out-of-the-way location that is tricky to find, but in the midst of the town's historical buildings. A lovely attraction run by advocates of 'the sweet life'. Enjoy a day at the choco-late factory where you can make your own sweets, sample the produce and go on a guided tour.

One of the most popular activities in Flekkefjord is cycling along the rails of the old Flekkefjord Line. Every year, thousands of people cycle the 34-km long route and are rewarded with a nature experience that is truly out of the ordinary. Enjoy a day in beautiful surroundings with a packed lunch in your rucksack.

The fishing vessel Solstrand was built in Svege in Flekkefjord in 1936. In the olden days, it fished for herring and prawns. It was given protection status as a museum vessel in 1989, and now makes many trips during the summer season. Lean back for a great day on the fjord listening to the waves and enjoying tasty fare.

Flekkefjord is a unique, picturesque example of the culture of Southern Norway, and, from the hotel, you can walk to the town's idyllic and charm-ing old, white-painted wooden houses, collectively known as Hollenderbyen (the Dutch Town). Come on a walk in Flekkefjord's streets with a guide who will take you through the town's rich and interesting history.

A trip to the charming and beautiful island of Hidra is another must. Vest-Agder County's largest island is often called 'the gem of Southern Norway', and with good reason. Hidra has a beautiful archipelago with rich fauna and birdlife as well as cultural history monuments.

Old traditional crafts

The craft factory at Gyland, just outside Flekkefjord is water-powered and has produced wood products since 1920. It is now used to tell the story of old craft techniques and how wood products were produced. Come on a guided tour with demonstrations that concludes with coffee and buns served in the krambua store .

Historic walk in Knaben

Knaben in Kvinesdal was built around the mining industry, and is known for its molybdenite mines. Molybdenite was important in the armament industry and the Germans built large forts around Knaben during WWII. Allied bombers attacked the mines twice in 1943. Visit the mines and the museum accompanied by your own guide.

Utsikten Golfklubb was voted Norway's golf gem in 2007. Refreshing tranquillity around large lush greens and soft fair-ways. Whether you choose the 18 or 9 hole course, you will find both chall-enges and relaxation in the spectacular scenery. Pure meditation from the heathland to the mystical forests and great views.

For the golf enthusiast Cycling under the open skies

The trip to Brufjellvarden cairn is a lovely walk through old woodland and landscapes to one of the area's best viewpoints. Walk on out to the Jettegrytene potholes and stop past the beautiful little beach Roligheten on the way back. We make a campfire and prepare a meal at the potholes.

Farm visit

What's better than enjoying the day from the seat of a bike. See new places at your own tempo and get a bit of exercise to boot. You can choose between a long trip along the country roads or off-road biking in forests and outlying land. You can do the trips on your own or with a guide.

Konstali Gard is a farm situated in Sira, a town just outside Flekkefjord. The farm has been in operation for almost 400 years, and it now receives many visitors. You can get a taste of farm life, go on a boat trip and fishing trip and be shown around the farm museum. The menu features local ingredients, spiced with the farm's history.

Local flavours

Beer is popular, and many large and small breweries are popping up that are producing interesting and unique beers for their region. One of these is the newly started Farsund Brewing Company, which is run by a gang of beer enthusiasts from the district. Here, you can go on a guided tour of the production facilities, taste some of the beers and learn about their history .
