    Tuesday

Free nursery places available… interested? Why not?

People on some form of benets qualifyfor a free nursery place for their 2 yearold child and what’s more all they have todo to nd out if they qualify is to log on tomyearlylearning.co.uk enter their details andstraight away it lets you know if you qualifyor not.

Then if you qualify it gives you a number, once you have that number you can takeit to most nurseries in Waltham Forest andthey will be able to offer you a place at theirnursery if they have space.

You do not give any money and the nurseryclaim their fees from the council direct.

    Now once that is all done you can then thinkabout what to do with the time you will haveon your hands, here are some of the thingsparents are using their time for;

    1. Some parents have gone into furthereducation or training preparingthemselves for the working environmentand a lot of these courses are free or atleast discounted.

    2. Some parents use this time forvolunteering, to gain experience in the

work market to develop their CV’s.3. Some parents nd it invaluable to be able

to do some chores, shopping, cookingetc. without having to also concentrate onwhat their little ones are doing.

    4. Some parents use it to go to the gym andto keep t, a great way to get rid of stressfrom the body.

    5. Some parents are using it for a good oldrest, being a parent is one of the hardest

    jobs in the world.

Whatever your reason can you afford to missan opportunity like this, why not come in toChingford Children’s Centre and speak to usabout it we will be able to give you so many

reasons why it will be good for you and yourchildren.

If you want to have a taste of what it willbe like then come along to our Stay2Playsessions especially set up for parents likeyou. You will be able to experience a smallpart of what your children will do, you canget any questions answered and if there is aneed for further support this can be providedas well.

Sleep experts say most adults needbetween seven and nine hoursof sleep each night for optimumperformance and health. Not gettingenough sleep can result in healthproblems such as obesity and highblood pressure, negative mood andbehaviour, decreased productivity, andsafety issues in the home, on the job,and on the road.

New born babies should sleep up to18 hours a day and this reduces to about12 hours for 5 year olds, (see the websitesfor more details). If you wake up in the middle of the nightand are not able to go back to sleep

relaxing imagery or thoughts may help youget back to sleep, if you do not fall backto sleep within 15–20 minutes, you shouldget out of bed, go to another room anddo something relaxing such as listening tomusic or reading. Return to bed when youfeel sleepy. Avoid watching the clock ortelevision. Here are some more opinions on sleeping1. Having a new baby can result in over

700 hours of lost sleep for the parentsin the rst year; over a month’s worth oflost sleep.

    2. Teenagers need as much sleep as smallchildren (about 10 hours)

    3. It is said that 1 in 6 fatal road accidentsis caused by fatigue.

    4. It’s not uncommon for deaf people touse sign language in their sleep

    5. Sleeping less than 7 hours each nightreduces your life expectancy.

    6. Lack of sleep can cause you to gainweight at a rate of nearly 2lbs a weekor 0.9kg.

    7. You burn more calories sleeping thanyou do watching television

FATHERS GROUPDADS + FATHERS + MALE CARERS + UNCLES + GRANDFATHERS

In a world of change there are few things thatremain the same and one thing that has stayedthe same is that children want their fathers. What we have found is that week days areokay for some fathers to attend groups withtheir children however some still nd it difcultto attend during the week so we have decidedto put on a group on Saturday.

The group will run every Saturday. So comealong with your child, stay and play in awelcoming and child friendly environment. We have an experienced facilitator who willbe able to support and give advice whenneeded; you will also be able to meet malecarers just like you.

Once a month we will be having the fathersgroup at Pimp Hall Nature Reserve where wewill be having some out door fun.

Taking care of your general health aswell as your teeth is the key to makingthe most of your smile.

Brushing your teeth twice a day withtoothpaste, ossing them daily andhaving regular check-ups with a dentistcan help keep your teeth healthy. Butdiet, smoking and drinking alcohol alsohave an effect on dental health.

Limiting the amount of sugar you andyour family eat and drink is important toprevent tooth decay. Have sugary foodand drink only at mealtimes and don’teat sugary snacks between meals. Thisis especially important in young childrenand babies.

It is also important you brush your teethin the right way. See the NHS choicewebsite for more details.

    Healthy Teeth – Happy Smile

    Why read… to your child?

There are many benets to readingto yourself and your child.

Reading to your children improvescommunication with each other aswell as with other people. The moreyou read the more comfortable yourchild will be with words and this

helps with their speech. The time you spend reading withyour child improves attachmentand bonding as you are spendingquality time with them and this willbe benecial as they grow.

Reading with your child before bedtime aids a better quality of sleepas it relaxes and calms their mind.

It has been shown that restful sleepis vital to a child’s development andtheir wellbeing.

Reading stimulates your child’simagination. The more you readto your children the more they willrecognise words and sounds and

the more words they will use whichwill improve their language.

Reading brings pleasure andknowledge and books offer a ticketto many worlds we might not everget to any other way, and readingcosts? What costs? sign up freeat your local library, they offerfantastic services as well as booksto borrow. So next time you arepassing pop in and see.

    Water, water everywhere…

We can’t live on air and sunshine alone. Thehuman body needs food and water to survive.

A human can go for more than three weekswithout food but water is a different story. The maximum time an individual can gowithout water on average is a week dependingon the conditions.

At least 60% – 70% of the adult body is madeof water and every living cell in the body needs

it to keep functioning. Water keeps our jointssupple, controls our body temperature throughsweating and respiration, and helps to get ridof waste when we go to the toilet.

Our bodies are constantly losing water, we losewater when we sweat, go to the bathroom –even when we exhale.

If that lost water is not replaced, it could havedamaging effects on the body; headaches etcor more serious if prolonged.

The common recommendation is to drinkabout 2 litres, or half a gallon a day for adults. However, there are others who think that weneed to sip on water constantly throughout theday… even when we’re not thirsty.

But it is commonly agreed that a hydrated bodyis a happy, happening, and healthy body, sodrink up.
