Acts Chapter 16-28 Over 10 weeks Quiz Worx Home Delivery is exploring the Book Of Acts. Acts is the second volume of Jesus’ ministry, as recorded by the historian Luke. Jesus’ earthly ministry is recorded in the gospel of Luke up until the time of Jesus‘ death and resurrection. The second volume, which we call “Acts”, continues to record the ministry of Jesus. Yet that ministry is now done through his people, by the power of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 1:1-8). Acts 1:8 sets the focus of the book. Through the power of the Holy Spirit the apostles (and those who would follow their teaching) were to be witnesses of Jesus, starting in Jerusalem, but then moving beyond that to Judea, Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth. The teaching of the book of Acts is that through his death and resurrection, Jesus is the person whom God has appointed as king of his kingdom. Jesus is the Risen King! And he has a mission. Jesus’ mission is that people from all around the world would hear that Jesus is the king. And Jesus’ mission is that people from all around the world would accept Jesus as their king. Through our weekly Kids’ Talk videos we will look at how Jesus’ mission began to spread despite the things and people who tried to stop it. Each Kids’ Talk video has accompanying discussion questions for you to work through with your children. We have also provided some further ‘Digging Deeper’ Family devotions. These will help you and your family work through the book of Acts and discover more about Jesus’ mission as carried out by his people, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We realise that the book of Acts is a long book - 28 chapters in all. As such, there will be some parts of the book that will not be directly looked at in either the Kids’ talks or the ‘Digging Deeper’ Family Devotions. If you and your family wish to read through these extra sections, then please feel free to do so! As we journey through Acts together, we are going to see again and again that the mission of the Risen King Jesus cannot be stopped. Let’s pray that we can be part of Jesus’ unstoppable mission.

Acts Chapter 16-28

In this week’s Kids’ Talk video, we see the apostle Paul travel to city after city telling people about the Risen King Jesus. Many things and people could have stopped Paul spreading Jesus’ mission, but again and again we see that the mission of the Risen King Jesus cannot be stopped!

1. What was the message Paul and his companions were telling people? 2. What were some of the things that might have stopped Paul sharing this message?

Did they stop him? 3. Have you accepted Jesus as your king? How can you be part of Jesus’ unstoppable

mission?

Pray

Thank God for the way he used Paul to spread the message of the Risen King Jesus.

Thank God that anyone who repents and accepts Jesus as their King can be part of His Kingdom forever.

Family Devotions

How to use ‘Digging Deeper’ for the Book of Acts.

To help you in your journey through Acts, each week we will provide three devotions. We encourage you to read these passages with those in your household at a time that suits, and use the questions to guide you as you talk and reflect on Jesus’ unstoppable mission in the Book of Acts.

We looked at a number of different Bible translations when creating these questions. So feel free to use any version as you work through them with your family. Memory Verse Challenge

“What must I do to be saved?” That is the most important question anyone could ask! Sing and dance along with Chrissy and some very special Quiz Worx kids as they share the amazing answer to this question, from Acts 16:30-31, in our fun, catchy and colourful memory verse song!

As we journey through the Book of Acts, we will continue to see that the mission of the Risen King Jesus cannot be stopped.

As you look at each passage, keep asking: a) What could stop Jesus’ mission? b) How do we see these obstacles overcome? c) How can I be part of Jesus’ unstoppable mission?

These Digging Deeper Family Devotions cover the last 12 chapters of the book of Acts. Due to the large quantity of material in these chapters, these devotions have been designed to go for two weeks, rather than one. Thus, next week’s Kids’ Talk video will not have its own devotions.

Devotion 1- Acts 16: 16-40

After healing a demon possessed girl, Paul and Silas were arrested and thrown into prison. But instead of complaining or losing hope, they praise God! Then something incredible happens...

1. What incredible miracle happened when Paul and Silas were in prison? 2. The jailer asks a very important question. What was the question? What was the

answer? (You can watch the Memory Verse video to remind you!) 3. Why was the jailer filled with joy? How does the Good News of Jesus make you feel?

Pray

Thank God that we can be saved by believing in, that is, repenting and accepting, Jesus.

Pray that this Good News will make you joyful and that God will help you share this joy with others!

Devotion 4 – Acts 20: 13-38

In this passage Paul encourages the Ephesian believers to keep following Jesus and keep sharing the message of the Risen King Jesus. He also warns them that people will try to stop Jesus’ mission so they must be on their guard.

1. What was Paul’s ultimate life goal? (Hint: see verse 24) 2. Paul speaks of himself as a runner in a race. What do we learn from Paul about how to

live in this life? (Hint: see verses 19, 24, 31, 33-35) 3. Paul loved the Ephesian church and his desire was to lead them to love Jesus more and

keep following him. Who are the people in your life who do that for you?

Pray

Thank God for the people in your life who teach you about Jesus and how to live for him.

Think and pray about who you can encourage to follow Jesus. Maybe you could invite them to watch the next QWHD series with you.

Devotion 5 – Acts 21: 27 – 22: 22 (younger kids read Acts 21: 30-40)

Paul has made it back to Jerusalem. But the people in Jerusalem stir up more trouble against Paul, and he finds himself arrested again and getting beaten up. 2. What did the people in the city want to do to Paul? 3. Can you remember how Paul came to accept Jesus as his King?

Devotion 6 – Acts 25: 1-12

Paul has been taken from Jerusalem to another city called Caesarea and put in prison there. While he’s in prison, he is put on trial before the Roman Governor Festus. Pray for people who you can invite to watch QWHD with you next week.

Devotion 7 – Acts 27: 1-44 (younger kids read vs 18-26)

After requesting to go to Rome to see Caesar, Paul is loaded on a ship. A huge storm arises and lasts for days. The ship is going to be wrecked but an angel tells Paul that all the people on board will survive. The ship is totally wrecked after they hit a sandbar and everyone on board ends up on an island called Malta.

1. How do you think Paul and the others felt when they were in the storm? 2. The soldiers on the boat have been planning to kill the prisoners, including Paul. What

did the captain do to save Paul’s life? 3. Talk about all the ways Jesus’ mission could have been stopped in this passage. Did

anything stop it?

Pray

Give thanks that God always keeps his promises – like he did by keeping people alive on Paul’s boat.

Give thanks that Jesus is more powerful than everything and nothing can stop the mission of the Risen King Jesus!

Have you invited people to watch QWHD with you next week? If not, pray that you will. If you have, pray for them.

After a short stay on the island of Malta, everyone hops in another boat headed for Rome. This time they make it! Paul was allowed to live in a house by himself with a guard standing by at all times. Paul continued to tell people about the Risen King Jesus.

1. Did the people in Rome find Paul guilty of anything? 2. What did Paul do while he lived in Rome under house arrest for 2 years? 3. Rome was considered the gateway to the “ends of the earth”. What would this mean for

Jesus’ mission. (Hint: look back at Acts 1:8).

Pray

Pray for your family and friends that don’t know Jesus that they might “...see (the truth) with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn (to Jesus)...” so that God might “...heal them”. (v 27)

Pray for people who are telling people about Jesus all over the world. Pray that they might be able to keep sharing Jesus “...with boldness and without hindrance!”. (v 28)

Pray for yourself, that you will be bold in proclaiming the Risen King Jesus. Pray that you will do that this week.
