About the NADA

Acudetox Protocol

Developed at the Lincoln Hospital, New York, by

Dr. Michael O. Smith in 1974 as a standardized

Auricular acupuncture procedure for use in the

treatment of substance addictions and for

behavioural health.

Widely used in the US, Canada, UK, Germany,

France, Italy, Switzerland and many other

countries around the world.

In addition to the original purpose for which the

protocol was developed, Auricular acupuncture

has also been used to help victims of traumatic

events such as the terrorist attacks on the World

Trade Centre, hurricanes Katrina and Rita,

earthquake victims and servicemen suffering

from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Acudetox is used to complement other

treatment modalities such as individual and/or

group counselling, participation in 12 step

programmes etc.

The protocol involves the gentle placement of 5

small, sterilized, disposable stainless steel

needles at specific points on each ear.

The client receiving treatment sits quietly,

individually or in a group setting, for 45 to 60

minutes. He or she receives such treatments as

frequently as needed. Subsequently the client

may occasionally receive tune ups, as needed.

The treatment is a non-verbal process, with

minimal interaction between the client and the

provider. The treatment activates the healing

potential within the client at the physical,

mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

The Acudetox treatment can be offered to the

client prior to an extended process of

assessment and diagnosis. It tends to increase

the client's readiness and willingness to

participate in treatment.
