WELCOMINGNEW RESIDENTS

Some time ago AL ActivitiesDirector Stephen Martinez cameto ask if I would like to welcomenew residents to ourcommunity. Of course, I jumpedat the chance to get to know myneighbors!

I anxiously awaited my firstassigned new resident. Sheseemed to be very pleased that Iwas trying to help her getacquainted with the diningroom, the mail boxes, etc., tohelp her get around. I really wasenjoying the job.

Then I noticed that she hadmet one of our gentlemenresidents and began to sharemeals with him. She told methat they went on walkstogether—the beginning to awonderful relationship. My firstguess was that they had knowneach other previously, but theywere quick to point out that thiswas their first meeting—like“love at first sight!”

I watched them at HappyHour—yes, they were happy! And to watch them dancetogether was a beautiful sight—two tall, slim dancers movinggracefully over the floor!

So here I sit—waiting for anew resident to welcome! Theloving and surprise ending tomy first resident welcomeseemed to be almost likea dream.

Tips for Heartburn ReliefMost of us are familiar with

heartburn—the painful, burningsensation in the chest caused bystomach acid backing up intothe esophagus. Fortunately, there are things you can do tohelp curb your symptoms.

First, find out what is causingyour heartburn. Although excessweight, smoking and stress canbe triggers, specific foods areoften the culprit. Keep track ofwhich foods give you heartburnso you can avoid them. Somecommon causes of heartburn arefried or fatty foods; caffeinatedsubstances such as chocolate, coffee and soda; and acidicfoods, including tomatoes andcitrus fruits.

A series of lifestyle changescan also reduce heartburn. Tryeating several small meals a dayinstead of three large ones. Waitat least three hours after a mealbefore going to bed, and sleepwith your head propped up.Avoid tight clothing that putspressure on your abdomen.

To relieve heartburnafter it’s started, try thesenatural remedies:

Ginger. Nibble on a raw pieceof ginger, use it in a recipe, ordrink ginger tea.

Gum. Chew a sugar-free pieceof gum to stimulate salivaproduction, which helps washaway acid.

If you experience frequentheartburn, consult your healthcare provider.
