  • WORKSHOP CONTENT

    In PowerPoint:

    • Insert audio in PowerPoint: record, test, edit• Setting audio to play automatically• Reducing workload with quick access to tools• Playing the PowerPoint continuously, like a videoIn Audacity:

    • Record, cut, copy, paste• Silencing breathing noises etc.• Reducing workload with keyboard shortcuts• Zooming to audio and section length• Setting project bitrate to reduce file size• Exporting• Dragging from File Explorer into PowerPoint

  • 1) IN POWERPOINT - INSERT AUDIO

    On the Insert tab, click Audio:

  • 2) RECORD AUDIO

    • Click Record Audio

    • Overwrite ‘Recorded Sound’ with a more specific name e.g. ‘Intro slide’

    • Press the red dot button to record

    • Press the square to stop recording

    • Press the triangle to play the sound

    • Press the OK button to save

    • Drag the icon to a suitable place on the slide

  • 3) TEST THE AUDIO

    Rotate icon

    Resize icon

    PlayProgress bar

    Timer Volume

  • 4) EDIT THE AUDIO• Click on the speaker icon

    • Use the Audio Tools > Playback tab

    • Trim the start and end of

    the audio to

    remove

    dead air

    and reduce

    file size:

    move the

    green and

    red markers

    inwards

  • 5) PLAY AUTOMATICALLY• Click on the speaker icon

    • Use the Audio Tools > Playback tab

    • Change here

  • QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR

    Use the Quick Access toolbar to

    hold operations that you use a lot

    Click the triangle to edit it:

    Select

    ‘More commands’

  • SELECTING COMMANDS

    1. Choose ‘All Commands’

    2. Choose ‘Record Audio’

    and ‘Insert Audio’

    3. Click the Add button

    4. Check they are in the

    right panel

    5. Click the OK button

  • CONTINUOUS, VIDEO-LIKE, PLAY

    1. Choose the ‘Transitions’ tab

    2. Select a transition

    3. Untick ‘On Mouse Click’

    4. Set the time to the length

    of the audio (type in a

    number; e.g. 10, and it sets

    it to 10 seconds. To get

    1½ minutes, type in 90

    5. Save the ppt

  • RECORD, CUT, COPY, PASTE

    Press the red dot to record. Press Stop or the space bar to stop.

    To cut, copy and paste, highlight a section with your mouse, then use Ctrl- X, V and P

    If a section is highlighted, play it by pressing Play or the space bar.

    To delete a section, highlight it, play it to make sure you have the right section, then use

    the Delete key on your keyboard.

  • SILENCING BREATHING NOISES ETC.To overwrite a section in which you make a breathe in noise, highlight it, then press Ctrl – L

    The result is a flat line

  • REDUCING WORKLOAD WITH KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

    Silence = Ctrl – L

    Stop / start = Space bar

    Record = R

    Pause = P

    Copy = Ctrl – C

    Paste = Ctrl – V

    Cut = Ctrl – X

    Select all the audio file: Ctrl - A

  • ZOOMING TO AUDIO AND SECTION LENGTHZoom to audio lengthZoom to selection length

  • SETTING PROJECT BITRATE TO REDUCE FILE SIZE

  • EXPORTING

  • DRAGGING FROM FILE EXPLORER INTO POWERPOINT

    Drag and drop the file to the place you want the icon in PowerPoint

    Tip: Set the file order so the most recent is at the top by clicking on ‘Date

    modified’

  • RECORD NEXT AUDIO FILE

    1. Click on the audio wave form

    2. Use Ctrl –A to select all the audio file

    3. Press Delete on your keyboard. This deletes

    the old recording.

    4. Record and export a new audio file. Don’t

    forget to change the filename.
