Mentoring is important for all health professionals3adea.com.au

The ADEA mentoring program is encouraged for all ADEA members.

A minimum 6 month partnership is compulsory for mentees to be eligible to apply for initial credentialling.ADEA now specify that the partnership must be recent to be able to apply for initial credentialling. ADEA has set a time period of within 12 months prior to initial credentialling application on advice of the Credentialling Committee. This is to ensure applicants have access to current best practice diabetes education management and care principles.

All Health Professionals are encouraged to participate in Mentoring relationships throughout their careers. If you are involved in a Mentoring relationship apart from what is required for initial credentialling, you are encouraged to register this partnership with ADEA and can claim points for this in your CPD portfolio.

All Mentors need to register their interest to become a mentor with ADEA.

Mentees can seek out their own Mentor. This could be a work colleague, someone in their area, someone they know with similar professional interests, or someone who works in a similar position in another location.Mentees unable to find a Mentor can access the ADEA Mentor Register. We are hoping that with the new online platform, mentees will be able to search for a potential mentor via a similar search engine like the Find a CDE function. Search criteria will include location, work area and professional interests. Emails will automatically be sent to Mentors who will then be able to accept the Mentor Partnership request.

Once a Mentee and Mentor agree with each other to participate in a mentoring partnership, the partnership needs to be registered with ADEA using the Partnership agreement form. This lets ADEA know the commencement date of the partnership so we know when the compulsory 6 months has been completed for those applying for initial credentialling. For partnerships that are not a part of the initial credentialling program, both Mentors and Mentees can claim CPD points, and registering the partnership will provide evidence for CPD portfolios.
