CCCCCCCCCCCCrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooppppppppppppWWWWWWWWWWWWaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttcccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhBB RRRRIIEESSPPEEAASIIZZEEEELL 3311The early season varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noirare getting close to Berries Peasize (EL 31). This is

earlier than usual and growers are advised to prepare foran early harvest especially if they are producing grapesfor sparkling wine. Note the with-holding periods of anyvineyard agrochemicals you are using to ensure you donot use any products too close to harvest.

    Downy Mildew

This week we have confirmed a low level of DownyMildew in vineyards from the Downy Mildew 10:10:24Primary Event on the 28th of November. These Oilspotshave produced spores on the backs of leaves (left)

caused by the Downy Secondary Event (warm, wetnight) on December 8th.

    Event Date

10:10:24 (Primary Event). 28th of November

    Oilspots visible. 7th of December

    Warm, wet night(Secondary Event).

    8th of December

Fresh Oilspots expected onuntreated / unprotected vines.

    16th of December

The risk of Downy Mildew affecting your bunches is low. Most vineyards have berries larger than 3-5mm and areconsidered immune to infection. Downy Mildew can onlyaffect your harvest if more secondary events occur andOilspot levels build up. CropWatch recommendsincluding Downy Mildew protectants with any fungicidespray especially if rain is forecast.

Remember once Oilspots appear they cannot besuccessfully killed by metalaxyl (Ridomil, Axiom).

Walk down your vine rows and look for any signs like thephotos shown on the CropWatch Blog. Tag any Oilspotsyou find and watch to see if they sporulate and spread,or if they dry out and become inactive.

    Early season continues.
