NORTH ALABAMA SOCCER COALITION The North Alabama Soccer Coalition (North Alabama SC or NASC) strives to be a recognized leader in recreational and competitive youth soccer in North Alabama, the State of Alabama, and the Region. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive player development pathway - Developmental to Recreational to Competitive to Premier - while also providing a place for players of every skill level in North Alabama to play and develop together. Through professional coaching and our commitment to create a fun, competitive, and player-first developmental environment, we allow every player to achieve soccer success on their own timeline. Our emphasis is on developing a total player. North Alabama SC’s inclusive and nurturing soccer environment not only ensures players reach their highest playing potential, but learn to play and compete with integrity and confidence, and master the life lessons of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play, all while developing a lifelong love for the beautiful game of soccer. North Alabama SC’s technical leader is Director of Coaching Henry Mpagi, who has over 25 years of playing and coaching experience. Henry played for the Ugandan Youth National team and played his college soccer locally at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). He has experience coaching at all levels: recreational, club, high school, Olympic Development Program (ODP), and adult premier leagues. Henry led the Huntsville High School Girls Varsity to 3 state championships and several different North Alabama SC teams to State Championships, State Final Four appearances, and the USYS Southern Regional Championships. He has developed youth players at the state ODP level and trained and promoted numerous NASC players to play soccer in college. Henry holds a USSF “C” license. NORTH ALABAMA SC HIGHLIGHTS

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT At North Alabama SC we are dedicated to development of the total player by providing development and competitive soccer opportunities for youth players at all ages and ability levels. To accomplish our goal, we have implemented our Total Soccer Development system of training. Our Total Soccer Development system is both a curriculum and a philosophy that is player centric and focused on long-term player skill development at all levels of play. Our Total Soccer Development system is designed to focus on the process of playing and the development of a player's individual skills, ball mastery, and creativity in a proper positive training environment. The measure and evaluation of success is not the outcome of the games, but on the player’s development progress and achievements. Players will be encouraged to compete at their highest capable level and will be challenged to play the game the “right” way. The emphasis is on developing a total player and not simply creating winning teams at the expense of player development. Measure your child's soccer success and developmental progression not by how many wins or losses the team has, but by how you can answer questions like:

• Did my child dribble with control and pass with purpose? • Is my child better at the middle and end of the season than the beginning? • Did my child learn a new skill? • Is my child progressing competitively?

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS North Alabama SC is the only club in North Alabama providing the complete player development pathway - Recreational to Competitive to Premier. Our development pathway is full-service for both boys and girls. We offer soccer outreach for 2U-4U, recreational programs for the 4U-14U, pre-competitive programs for 7U-8U, competitive programs for 9U-19U, and we are the only club in the State that provides both the men’s NPSL and women’s WPSL premier team programs. We also offer the only TOPSoccer program to serve our special needs players in North Alabama. On top of our free preseason team camps for our 9U-19U competitive teams, we also offer a full complement of camps and technical clinics throughout the year to ensure all of our players have the opportunity to have year-round skill development.

There is a place for every player at North Alabama SC! AGE SPECIFIC PROGRAM DETAILS North Alabama SC is a member of the Alabama Soccer Association that is affiliated with USYS. Our 12U-19U competitive boys and girls teams compete in the Alabama State League (D1, D2, and D3 levels) or USYS National League – Mid-South Region while our 9U-11U competitive boys and girls teams compete in the North Alabama Youth Soccer League (NAYSL). Recreational teams compete in intraleague and NAYSL. All Junior Academy, Pre-Academy, Academy, and Recreational players receive a minimum of 50% playing time. All programs are available and open to boys and girls. All programs have OPEN registration with the exception of our 9U-19U competitive Academy and Senior academy programs; these two programs require a player evaluation be completed before registration and team assignment is allowed. Below are the program details by age group. Toddler Time & Little Kickerz (2U-4U) Toddler time is our FREE 2U-4U co-ed program. This 4-week, Saturday only program is a series of guided soccer play-dates that allow kids to be introduced to soccer through fun small-sided games and music. Little Kickerz is our 2U-4U co-ed mommy/daddy and me program. This is a 6-week week-day morning indoor version of our Toddler Time program. Junior Academy (4U-8U) Jr. Academy is our recreational 4U-8U co-ed program. This 8-week program plays twice a week: one mid-week practice and Saturday game-days. The program provides age-specific skill development and supports 4v4 game-play. This program is offered in Huntsville, Madison, and Owens Cross Roads. Pre-Academy (7U-8U) Pre-Academy is our 7U-8U program that prepares players for entry into the North Alabama SC Competitive Academy program. This one of a kind program in North Alabama is under the supervision of the Recreational Director and is coached by a professional licensed coach. It is intended to help

transition kids from the 4v4 game to the 7v7 game at 9U. Players practice 2 times a week and play in-house/local friendly games on either a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (only one of those days). These players also have the opportunity to attend 1-2 local tournaments each season. Recreational (9U/10U-14U) Recreational soccer is offered for 9U/10U-14U players. This 8-week program maintains the North Alabama SC curriculum and development pathway, but in a less competitive environment that only has two practices a week with game-days on Saturday and Sunday. All games are played in the greater Huntsville/Madison County area. Teams also have the opportunity to attend age and skill appropriate local tournament. 4U-8U players will register for Jr. Academy. Academy (9U-11U) Our Academy competitive program is for boys and girls in the 9U-11U age groups. These age groups are provided with their first introduction to the competitive environment with 7v7 and 9v9 game-play. Teams have licensed coaches, practice 2 times per week (U11 teams may practice 3 times per week), play in the NAYSL, and have the opportunity to attend 2-3 tournaments. All teams are considered Division III. The goal of the Academy is to provide enhanced skill development, a competitive environment, and a structured development curriculum for these players to be successful. All players receive a minimum of 50% playing time. Senior Academy (12U-19U) Our Senior Academy competitive program is for boys and girls in the 12U-19U age groups. These teams compete in the ASA State League at either Division I or Division II competitive levels. Teams have the opportunity to compete for the Alabama State Championships and qualify for USYS National League and Regional Championships.

Teams practice 3 times per week with licensed coaches that are overseen by full-time Directors of Coaching. Teams have the opportunity to attend 2-4 tournaments per season to ensure they can compete against regional teams and gain college exposure at showcase events.

High School Prep (15U-19U) High School Prep is for 15U-19U players that want a competitive Division II or Division III environment that prepares them technically, tactically, physically, and mentally for High School soccer. The High School Prep program provides an environment with reduced commitments in time, travel, and expense that still allows players to develop in NASC's professional curriculum and with our licensed coaches. The program structure maintains a focus on the foundations necessary to play and succeed at the High School level. While there are fewer games and training sessions than the Division I teams, the intensity level and quality of game play remains at the highest level. Teams practice 2 times per week with licensed coaches that are overseen by the full-time Directors of Coaching. Teams will play 6-8 regular season games and have the opportunity to attend 1-3 tournaments per season.

TEAM STRUCTURE The North Alabama SC team structure supports our player Development Pathway by allowing players to properly progress from Recreational, Pre-Academy, and Academy to Senior Academy competitive teams. The team structure at the Recreational, Pre-Academy, Academy, and 12U levels supports the pool play model where players of all skill levels train in the same environment/structure and play games at developmentally appropriate levels. This ensures the pool develops together while also providing opportunities for players to play with skill equivalent players. Teams at these levels are assigned non-descript names using our team naming convention: NASC Gravity [Gender] [Birth Year] [Team Name]. For example: NASC Gravity Boys 10 Barcelona. Starting at the Senior Academy’s 13U age group, players are separated into distinct teams by their skill levels to maintain our total player development model and begin the progression into the full competitive structure. Teams names will distinguish teams by their level:

• Showcase is our top team level and is reserved for teams competing at an advanced competitive level such as National League.

• Premier is our first team level and reserved for teams competing at the Division 1 State League level.

• Elite is our second team level and reserved for teams competing as the second team in Division 1 State League or as the top team in Division 2 State League.

• Select is our third team level and reserved for teams competing as the second team in Division 2 State League or for High School Prep teams.

Senior Academy team names follow the same naming convention, but with an assigned team level: NASC Gravity [Gender] [Birth Year] [Team Level]. For example: NASC Gravity Girls 06 Showcase. COACHING STAFF North Alabama SC's professional coaching staff is unmatched in North Alabama and one of the most experienced in the State. Among our coaching staff are former college players and college All-Americans, former National Team players, former professional soccer players (including the MLS), and current and former high school and college coaches. Our coaches have USSF and National coaching licenses along with Brazilian, Dutch, German and Coerver licenses. They have also played worldwide and bring a wealth of playing experience from countries like the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Jamaica, Kenya, Trinidad, and Uganda. Director of Coaching (DOC) Henry Mpagi is supported by our Program Directors (listed below) and over 40 professional staff coaches.

• 13U-19U Staff Director: James Ssemambo • Youth Academy Director: Will Muncher • Director of Goalkeeping: Amar Amin • Recreational Director: Tony Schroeder

2020-2021 NASC TRYOUTS Each year North Alabama SC conducts tryouts and evaluations to identify players to form our 9U-19U competitive teams. Tryouts and evaluations are conducted per ASA guidelines. Register Today at JoinNASC.com! 9U-12U teams complete player evaluations without “cuts” – all players that have the desire and commitment to play soccer will be placed in the program or player pool that best meets their skill development needs. 13U-19U teams hold traditional tryouts and will form as many competitive teams as qualified player numbers allow for each age group. BIRTH YEAR CHART U.S. youth soccer age groups are organized by birth year. Use the chart below to determine what age group your child is in based on their birth year. The age groups for the upcoming 2020-2021 seasonal year are highlighted in maroon.

TRYOUT INFORMATION Below is a list of FAQs that will provide you with the answers and information regarding our tryout and evaluation process. 1. What is the tryout procedure? All players, both new and existing are required to tryout each year. Players register at JoinNASC.com and pay a $10 tryout fee per player. Players are expected to attend the designated tryout dates for their age group. 9U-12U players will complete the evaluation process and are assigned to a team as there are no “cuts” at these age groups. 13U-19U players will complete the tryout process and if selected, they will be assigned to a team. 2. How many sessions does a player need to attend during the tryout process? Players should attend every possible session to ensure adequate time for proper evaluation. 3. Which team should my child tryout for? When possible, NASC strives to offer teams of varying ability and commitment within the same age group. Consult the NASC website for more information regarding team summaries, framework for team structure, and expectations of players. 4. Can players play-up an age group? We encourage our players to play in the most competitive age group/bracket possible for maximum development. A player may play on a higher age group team ONLY if that player is deemed an “impact player” (see definition below) by the DOC and the coaching staff of both the player’s true age group and the age group above. The DOC will make the final decision after consultation with the coaching staff and the family of the player concerned. The decision will be made at the end of the tryout period. Depending on the age group, an “impact player” is a player who is deemed to be in the top 7-11 players of the older age team. This determination takes into account the player’s technical and physical abilities, tactical knowledge and emotional development. Moving forward, NASC has a plan in place to identify top players in all ages, starting from 7U and 8U, and offering them training/game play with older groups without a need to separate them entirely from their birth year groups. In some cases, players might be entirely moved to an older age group if, in addition to being technically ready, they are physically, psychosocially, and tactically ready. This decision will not be player/parent driven, but rather based on coaching staff and DOC evaluations, and parents will be consulted prior to decisions being made. 5. What is your philosophy on when tryouts should be competitive? NASC endorses a strong system of development across all age groups (Total Soccer Development). As such, NASC offers both Recreational and Competitive programs starting at 9U. During tryouts/evaluations, players will either be selected for the Competitive program, or offered a choice to play in our Recreational program. Players in our Recreational program will consistently be evaluated for playing opportunities in the Competitive program, without the pressure of leaving that environment. All players will have a place to play at NASC!

Page 9: NORTHALABAMASC.ORG ADMIN@NORTHALABAMASC.ORG … · While there are fewer games and training sessions than the Division I teams, the intensity level and quality of game play remains

NORTHALABAMASC.ORG

6. How are teams at 12U and younger formed? Players will be placed into pools and divided into appropriate levels for games. 9U-10/11U players will participate in 2-4 tournaments per season, the North Alabama Youth Soccer League (NAYSL), and/or club friendlies. The top 11U players MAY also be able to compete in the Alabama State League. All 12U players will participate in the Alabama State League, and 2-4 tournaments per season. Players will routinely be shared between teams to help balance and provide an adequate number of games per player. NASC strongly believes that the youth program is paramount to our long-term success, and will make every effort to place young players on a team and ensure the players participate at the most appropriate level of competition. 7. How are teams at 13U and older formed? North Alabama SC will form the top team for that division in order to prepare them for competition. Additional teams are formed as players are available. This begins the first process of developing competitive teams. 8. What factors are the coaches considering when evaluating my child? There are many factors when forming the upper age group teams. All coaches vary in their exact approach, but common factors include: skill, tactical awareness, fitness, coachability/attitude, commitment to soccer, and personality. 9. Do returning players still have to tryout? All returning players must tryout regardless of team assignment or age. 10. Who will coach my child? Coaches for established teams are announced in advance of tryouts. The Director of Coaching reserves the right to shift coaches to accommodate the best interest of the players and club. We often have reserve coaches waiting to take on a new or additional team to accommodate any new teams that may be formed. In this case, your prospective coach will be made known to you before asking your intent to play. Some of our coaches also coach High School soccer teams during the Spring, and due to this commitment, a backup coach may be needed during the Spring club soccer season. 11. Do existing teams stay the same during the next season? North Alabama SC does not endorse a system of cutting and/or dropping players at 12U and younger, but players may be offered a recreational path after being evaluated by our staff. However, team transitioning through the 9U-12U age groups may be necessary to keep players of like abilities and commitments together. 13U and older teams are subject to change at each tryout. However, for all age groups, teams formed for the Fall season will stay intact for the Spring season as well. If necessary, the DOC’s will assist in the formation of any "hybrid" teams to compete in Winter and/or Spring leagues. 12. How will I be notified of my child’s status during the tryout procedure? Whether your son or daughter makes a NASC pool/team or not, they will receive communication from the age group coach. Coaches may begin selecting players on the first tryout day and continue until the final stages of the tryout period. All players will receive communication from the age group coach regarding which pool/team he or she has been offered/placed. Offers for team/pool placement may be done in person on the field, by email, and/or on the phone after a session.

NORTHALABAMASC.ORG

13. Can I bring an existing team into NASC? NASC hosts an open tryout for all age groups. You are welcome to bring a group of players to tryouts. 14. How does the State Cup moving to Spring affect NASC's team formation and player selection at the 12U Division II and 13U-14U Division I level? The main motivation for ASA moving the tournament date is twofold:

a. It will shift a significant number of players from the already full Fall State tournaments to the Spring.

b. Players will hopefully have more opportunity to play all year long. As a soccer club, we fully support playing all year long. However, it will not be our policy to restrict participation based on the player's desire to compete in the Spring or attend Spring State Cup. Players can be added to rosters as late as May, so if there are players that wish to compete in State Cup, we will make every effort to afford them the opportunity. In essence, we expect to maintain our regular seasons and offer a full year of training and games, just as we have always done.

15. What does signing a commitment form mean for 9U-12U and 13U-14U Division I? At 9U-11U, it means that your child is signing up to play at NASC for the Fall and Spring seasons of that year (Ex. Fall 2020 - Spring 2021). Our Spring season starts mid-February of the new year. We know that some kids play other sports in the Spring, and we support them with our programming to allow them to do both soccer and other sports. At 12U, it means that your child is committed to play at NASC for the Fall and Spring seasons of the Alabama State League for that year (Ex. Fall 2020 - Spring 2021). Our Spring season starts around mid-February of the new year. We know that some kids play other sports in the Spring, and we support them with our programming to allow them to do both soccer and other sports. At 13U-14U D1, it means that your child is committed to play at NASC for the Fall and Spring seasons of that year (Ex. Fall 2020 - Spring 2021). Our Spring season starts around mid-February of the new year. We appreciate that players at this age group can play middle school and high school soccer in the Spring. We fully support our players participating in school soccer. However, with the 13U-14U Alabama State Cup being held in the Spring, teams will need to decide if they want to forego school soccer to prepare for State Cup, and an opportunity to qualify for National League and the Southern Regionals in June. CLUB FEES North Alabama SC understands that players may choose to play other sports or participate in other extracurricular activities during the year. As a result, we do not require a single annual fee per player. Player fees are charged and paid by season: Fall and Spring. Described below is the club fee schedule for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 season by age group and division.

• Fall Club Fee Deposit: North Alabama SC requires a non-refundable Club Fee Deposit be paid when your player commitment is submitted and to formally accept your player’s fall team assignment with the club.
