DEAR STUDENTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS,

We are pleased and honoured to welcome students and their

families to Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School. Since

our school’s humble beginnings in 12 portables beside St

Andrew’s Church in September 1974, we have proudly served

North Etobicoke. Today, our community includes over 9000

students, 70 teachers, and 25 support staff in a semestered,

co-educational setting. The mission of our school is the forma-

tion of the whole person: the spiritual, intellectual, physical,

emotional, and social development of every student. Our aim at

Father Henry Carr is to provide a quality education, which inte-

grates faith with culture, so that every aspect of the curriculum

is taught in light of the Gospel. Father Henry Carr is an excellent

educational setting for the highly motivated, success-orient-

ed student who enjoys learning. Our challenging academic

program includes Pre-Advanced Placement (enriched) credit

courses beginning in Grade 9, which lead to Advanced Place-

ment courses in Grade 12. Father Henry Carr is proud to be

the only secondary school in North Etobicoke that offers the

Congregated Advanced Placement Program. Additionally, edu-

cational services for students who need support to learn within

an inclusive environment are also available. Our school motto

is “DOMINE UT VIDEAM”- Lord that I might see. At Father Henry

Carr we strive to be a welcoming community that sees the

goodness and potential of each student entrusted to our care.

Special EducationSupport for all students is the cornerstone of our philosophy at Father Henry Carr. Resource services are provided to students who are formally identified through an IPRC, as well as students who received remedial support in Grade 8 and those students who are enrolled in Grade 9 Learning Strategies classes. The method of service and degree of accommodation to be provided is based on IPRC summaries, exchange of information meetings, and an IEP created with ongoing parent communication. Each student is supported by a resource teacher and some students may also be supported by an educational assistant in class. All special edu-cation students have daily access to the resource room located in our Library Learning Commons.

The staff in the Educational Services Department is committed to providing the necessary support in a caring and compassionate manner which strives to ensure success for all of their students.

Student ServicesFather Henry Carr has an outstanding Student Services Team. SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS

CHAPLAINCY“All are welcome” are the words, which

are at the heart of our chaplaincy team. Throughout the school year, students and staff are called to celebrate and reflect on their faith. Each day begins and ends in prayer. At key times in the Liturgical Year, we gather for Mass at St. Andrew’s Church, to celebrate and give thanks to God. Members of the school community are invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the season of Lent. Student and staff retreats are carefully planned to allow time to reflect on the connections between life and faith, and to be self-reflective. Furthermore, students are encouraged to put their faith into action by participating in our Stations of the Cross and days of ser-vice at St. Francis Table, Scott Mission and through the ACCTS ( A Catholic Call to Serve) program made available through the TCDSB which enables students to develop as young Catholic leaders.

THE ARTS Dance

With experienced teachers working in the field, the dance program has grown to be an integral part of our school community, known for its

outstanding technical training, supported by thought-provoking coursework and extracurricular activities. By providing an environment that encourages young

dancers to excel while simultaneously challenging them, students grow into true art-ists. They are exposed to various genres of dance (classical, urban, social, etc.) and learn

about their historical and social contents/implications. Extracurricular activities consist of an open dance club where all are welcome, and a competitive dance team.

Drama Our Father Henry Carr Drama program offers an exciting curriculum that allows students to gain knowledge

of presentation techniques and leadership skills, while also increasing students self confidence. The courses encourage collaboration among students and the instructor to create, rehearse and perform student work. The

program involves a range of activities including mask making, vocal warmups, improvisation, monologues and script writing to name a few. Students also have the opportunity to participate in performing for school events such as Remem-

brance Day, Black History Month, and Easter performances.

MusicAt Father Henry Carr, the music program is dynamic, energetic and flourishing! In all vocal music courses, students study theory, history, dictation, ear training, sight singing, basic piano knowledge and prepare for musical performances through-out the year. In this exciting and growing program, students compose songs and lyrics, record their voices, produce music videos, and plan and perform their own solo recitals. In addition, students participate in musical workshops, attend concerts and learn from guest artists to engage and inspire their learning. Furthermore, the music program boasts an accomplished choir made up of all students enrolled in vocal courses. The FHC Choir performs at school masses, assemblies, concerts, and community events. Students who play instruments are encouraged to join the choir and provide accompaniment for choral performances.

Visual ArtsOur Visual Arts department offers an innovative curriculum that incorporates a range of activities including painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, and photography. The art and photography teachers encourage students to display their work and to demonstrate service to their community by providing artwork to enhance the aesthetic value of our school.
